  • How can I recover Itunes songs after I changed my computer

I have my lists of songs, songs, etc in my IPAD and IPOD. I changed the computer and as I downloaded ITUNES, it's empty. How can I transfer my songs and lists from my IPAD or IPOD to ITUNES?
    Thanks

Of course it is empty... what did you seriously expect?
Installing iTunes has never caused media to magically appear on a computer.
The media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • How can I stop iTunes from numbering ripped files?

How can I stop iTunes 11.2.1 from automatically adding numbering before track titles when I rip files from a CD? I used to be able to do this generations of iTunes ago but later versions don't seem to offer an option to turn this off. All ideas, tips, suggestions and hints welcome.

Thanks very much for your reply. I'm not ripping music but rather audiobook CDs which I then use Audiobook Builder to create audiobooks I can "read" on my iDevice. On the odd occasion iTunes will "recognize" the audiobook CD and offer to import metadata for it ... which is almost always incorrect. Thus, I usually decline the metadata import and enter the appropriate and correct metadata via Get Info. Then, when I import the files from the CD, iTunes automatically numbers each file ahead of the file title. I was previously able to disable this behavior but I can't find any way to do so in iTunes 11.2.1. Some have said TinkerTool used to provide this feature but no longer does. I don't know if TinkerTool has a Mavericks-compatible version - I'll have to check that out. If not, then I'm still trying to find a way to disable automatic track numbering in iTunes when ripping audiobook CDs. Thanks again for your reply ... I 'preciate it.

  • How can I move iTunes music folder to another drive?

I have iTunes version 7.1 running on a notebook with Windows Vista. My iTunes music folder is becoming too large for the C; drive and I am having problems successfully moving it to the D: drive.
I know the folder is in the D: drive because I can see it there. I have followed guidance on how to link it to iTunes: Edit / Preferences / Advanced / General / Change (choosing iTunes music folder on the D: drive) / OK. I have also ticked the "Keep iTunes Music folder organised" box, as well as the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" box. Nevertheless, when I open iTunes my music does not appear in the library.
    What am I doing wrong?

Firstly there is more than one kind of iTunes Library file:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
Secondly you should consolidate your library:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.3/en/670x.html
The following link will give you the instructions to move iTunes to an EHD. These instructions need to be followed EXACTLY.
The 2 metadata files within the main iTunes folder must stay on the main drive of your system as that is their "home", they can't be moved.
    Now read this:

  • HT1386 How can I sync itunes songs onto my iphone? Using ios 6.1.3 and itunes 11.0.4.4

When I connect my iphone to itunes (USB) I am prompted to set up new iphone, or restore from back-up. I've already restored from back-up. I can't sync or manage my iphone with itunes now.
Background info: I have recently been forced to update the operating system on my iphone - the contact, pictures and most apps restored just fine. But I cannot copy the music back onto my iphone. When I plug in the phone to sync with itunes I am now prompted to set up a new phone or restore from back up. I have already restored from back up and don't need these options any more.
The syncing instructions I read show screen shots of itunes that I can no longer get to. Any syncing options I can find are greyed out and unusable.
How can I place music onto my iphone?

I appreciate your comment however, I sold my iPhone 4 and therefore cannot see how it synched before. What I do know is that I was not using the iCloud with the iPhone 4 and when Ireceived the iPhone 5 in the mail, I took it to the local Apple Store for some user education... The person in the store set this up.
I have been an iphone user since the first phone was selling. I love the product and this issue is troublesome to me.
I do wish that this problem would have been brought to my attention prior to purchasing. I waited weeks for delivery of the phone and thought I was advancing into the the future, not reversing in time.
Looks like I have to re-create about 300 notes by hand!  UGH!

  • How can I get Itunes songs to my mp3 player (Sony Sonic Stage)?

I've browsed through the forums and it seems a lot of people want to export Sonic Stage files to Itunes!
I want the opposite. I just bought 100 songs from Itunes and can't get the m4a format changed in the Itunes advanced setting and I can't import the songs into my mp3 player (Sony Sonic Stage) because the files don't appear as part of my folder when searching (even though I'm looking for "all files").
I tried the Windows explorer to drag and drop from the Itunes folder to my mp3 player (it is flash based but loaded through the software SonicStage)and it didn't work.
I REALLY don't want to burn all of the new tracks to a CD to try to transfer them all back onto my mp3 player. Am I missing something really simple or is this a compatability flaw? I won't buy any more songs if it's the case but your assistance is GREATLY appreciated

  • How can I get iTunes to find dislocated files on my portable hard drive?

I have had to move my music files onto a portable hard drive to save space but now when I plug my portable hard drive in and try to play tunes the exclamation mark comes up. iTunes can identify individual mp3's when I want to play them, through a manual file search, but is it possible for iTunes to find all the music files at once either when I ask it to or even better identify them automatically for me?

It looks like too many changes already had taken place in the 'iTunes Library' file, to start from the original situation.
You can of course restore all the links manually, but you're probably still busy doing that next week.
Try to rebuild the library, using the instructions in this article:
How to recreate your iTunes Library
    You could loose some information.
BTW. If your library mainly contains MP3's and AAC's and Apple Lossless, you won't loose any track related information (artwork, name, artist, album etc.)
That information is stored inside the song file.
Other information is stored inside the library files.
More info in: What are the iTunes library files?
You already made changes. Some links probably point to the external disk and some point to the internal. So I'm not sure re-creating the library will give satisfactory results. I hope it does of course.
If it's all a mess now, you could consider to start from scratch.
By doing this, you will loose all playlists, ratings, podcast subscriptions etc. but not track related info as mentioned above.
To do this, trash the 'iTunes Library' file and run iTunes. you will start with an empty library. Drag and drop the 'iTunes Music' folder on it.
All music will be added to the library.
Consider this as a last resort. Try re-creating first.

  • How can I tell iTunes not to import files that I want to sample listen too?

Let's say that I want to listen to a sample of something online. I download the file. When I click on the file iTunes opens, the file imports into my library and then it plays. How can I open the file without it importing into iTunes? I know that you can scroll over the file to play it, but I want to scrub around. My iTunes library has a bunch of random audio files in there now. If iTunes can't play without importing, is there any software that does that?
    Using: iTunes 11.0.4

Click one of the downloaded files to highlight it. Hit command-i to bring up the info pane. Scroll down to 'Open with' (click the disclosure triangle if necessary) and click the drop-down menu - select the QuickTime Player. Click 'change all...'. Now all files with that extension will open with the QT player when double-clicked. Of course you can still drag them into iTunes if you should want them there.

  • How can I move my songs from an XP PC to a NAS?

    Hi there.
I had an old XP machine, that was holding all my MP3 songs, no DRM. Over the network, my whole family had access, everybody was using his own iTunes for his iPod. So everybody had his own "C:\Users\XXX\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media" database. Worked great.
My MP3 songs were on an USB drive, connected to the XP. Now I want to get rid of the XP machine, and connected the USB drive to a NAS.
On all PC's I was using an alias, drive "M:".
I set up the NAS to offer me the MP3 files also on a drive M:.
So far, so good. If I now start iTunes, it needs 5 Minutes, until I can listen to music, But not to all! Some of them show "no longer available, do you want to search them?" But after some more minutes, they are available.
Any idea? (My "customers" are increasing pressure on me!!!!!)
    Rgds, Uwe

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your devices sync with a photos folder you will need to copy this over and update the settings on the photo tab to point to the new location.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.
