How can I move the music on my IPOD onto a new computer if my old computer hard drive has crashed.

Question. How can I get my music library from my IPOD onto ITUNES on a
new computer, given that my old computer, which contained my ITUNES library crashed and has an unrecoverable hard drive?

Have you not got a backup of your iTunes content on, for example, an external drive ? If not then depending on which country that you are in then you might be able to re-download past iTunes music purchases from the store. Otherwise you will need a third-party program to copy them off - this post mentions some that were around a couple of years ago, I don't know whether they still exist and/or work.

I read the thing on how to put the music on my ipod onto my new computer and it says you need the old computer which I don't have because it died.
    What else can I do?

itune blocks this function, you must utilize other tools to achieve that. There're couple of tools for transferring the files between ipod and computer depends on your demands, e.g transfer only songs/videos, transfer photos etc. You can have a look at this review site, hope it useful.

  • HT1329 how can i move my music from my ipod to a new computer? i no longer have access to my old computer

i am trying to transfer the music i have on my ipod to a new computer but i no longer have access to the old computer. Is there anyway that this can be done?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer. The exception is purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • How can i move the music from my iphone onto my new itunes?

    hi
ive just got a new laptop and i installed itunes thinking that when i plugged in my iphone it would take the music library from the phone to the laptop so i had an up to date library on my phone and the itunes on my laptop. however, this didnt happen. the itunes acknowledges my iphone as the 'closey 16's iphone' appears in the left hand column and it also charges the battery, so the usb lead is definitely working. Does anyone know how to sort this out? please?!
    thanks

The iPhone is not a backup storage device and sync is technically one way. You need to get your data from your old machine (or backup...you do make backups right) to your new machine then into iTunes. Then you can sync them to your iPhone (which will clear the iPhone and sync content back again as you can only sync media with one computer).
One other option is to choose "Transfer Purchased Content" from the menu (in Windows it would be rightclick on your iPhone in iTunes or from File menu...sorry I don't use a Mac).
However, note, that will ONLY copy over items you bought via iTunes and NOT items you got another way (eg: ripped, from another store, etc) as there is no way to verify you own a legal copy.

  • I am trying to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer. After installing itunes and connecting my ipod touch a message comes up saying that my ipod is already synced with another library. What can I do to sync it with a new library?

I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. I am trying to put the music from my ipod touch onto my new computer but keep getting a message saying that my ipod is already synced with a library and cannot be synced with more than one. How do I access that library on my new computer and if I can't are their other ways for me to put the music on my ipod into my new computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Can i transfer the stuff off my ipod onto my new computer

I have had to get a new computer as my old one broke and no longer works is there any way of getting the stuff off my ipod onto my new computer without losing what is currently on my ipod?
All you help would be greatly appreciated

Hello, friend. If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a step by step guide show you how to transfer iPod music to Mac computer or iTunes library, hope it helps.
I have been try your method, it can help me, thanks a lot.As I know Coolmuster iPhone iPad iPod to computer can also transfer iPod music to computer.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

  • Can I bring the music from my ipod to my new computer?

My old computer crashed and I lost everything. When I plug my ipod in to my new computer it ask if I want to replace the music on my ipod with the music on my new computer (right now there is no music on here). Is there a way I can bring my music from my ipod to my new computer? Thanks

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    PodPlus Windows Only
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive on Windows and retrieving your songs posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.
