How can I open a Movie Maker video on iMovie?

I'm trying to transfer a movie maker to the imovie? is it possible? how? thanks(:

The 2 options for saving a video file from Movie Maker are either DV-AVI or WMV. To create a Mac-compatible video file, open the MSWMM file in Windows Movie Maker, save the movie at the highest quality setting WMV or preferably as a DV-AVI format file. Import this finished AVI or WMV file into iMovie or other Mac video editing application.
After the MSWMM file saving as AVI or WMV file in our PC, you can play the WMV/AVI files on your PC and convert them to another video format or burn to DV

  • How can I get my personal home videos into iMovie?

I REALLY wanted to make my sister a special birthday video with home videos. I put the home videos which are on DVDs into my laptop and I tried just about everything, but nothing is working to convert these so that they can go into iMovie. Can someone PLEASE help me? This is super stressful. -__-

This tip will show you how to import your home movie on DVD into iMovie 11 for editing. It will not work on commercial, copy-protected DVDs. (Ripping commercial DVDs is against the Terms of Use of the Apple Discussions).
DVDs are encoded by iDVD into MPEG2, which iMovie cannot edit. So you need to convert the DVD into a codec that iMovie can edit. For highest quality, I recommend that you convert the DVD to Apple Intermediate Codec. There is a free tool called MPEG Streamclip that will do this. You will also need to install the Apple QuickTIme MPEG2 Playback Component.
    Here are the details.
    1) Download and install the Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Component ($20) - available online from Apple.
    2) Download and install MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free).
    3) Start MPEG Streamclip
    4) Insert your DVD into your Mac. If DVD Player or Front Row starts automatically, quit those.
    5) Open a Finder window. Navigate to the DVD.
    6) Drag the Video_TS folder from your DVD and drop it into MPEG Streamclip.
    7) If MPEG Streamclip offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
    8) Use FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME to convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec (or h.264 if you prefer)
    9) Optional steps.
9a) Optional: You can deinterlace your footage in this step, if you like. If you don't know which is best, try a short clip both ways. I usually do not deinterlace.
9b) Optional: If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
9c) Optional: If you don't want to make one huge clip out of your DVD, you can make smaller clips by using MPEG Streamclip. Move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then do steps 8 through 10 and repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
    10) Save the resulting file in a place where you can find it, like your Desktop.
    11) Open iMovie.
    12) In iMovie, choose FILE/IMPORT/Movies... and choose the file you saved in steps 8, 9, 10.
    13) iMovie will generate thumbnails and you can edit.

  • How can I open a .mov file with iMovie?

    Hi,
I keep trying to open a .mov file in iMovie and it isn't doing it. Is that not a recognized file extension? Should I convert the video file somehow?
    Thanks!

.mov is just a container for a variety of video codecs, some of which are not recognized by iMovie.  You will need to convert it first with a third party app such as Media Converter (which is free, see:   http://media-converter.sourceforge.net).
Another free app  VideoSpec (see:  http://videospec.free.fr) is useful for identifying all the details of a video clip

  • How can I open a movie in CS5?

I'm trying to make an animated gif.
I've tried several ways, but with no results.
If I drag the .mov file to the CS5 app, I get the message:  "Could not complete your request because Photoshopdoes not recognize this type of file."
If I try to open from CS5, it does not "see" it as a readable file it can open.
If I try to open from Bridge, it does not list CS5 as an app that will open it.
    Using 10.7.4, 2x2.66 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon, with 27GB of DDR3.
Repaired permissions prior to all this.
    Any ideas out there?

I discovered that I had to have CS5 open in 32 bit, instead of 64 bit.  Only then would it open the file, and only by importing it this way:  Import>Video Frames to Layers...    It seems as thought Adobe has changed some things, as it used to be possible to open the file directly by loading it into PS.  Also, the Animation window no longer has the "Timeline" tab.  Not sure what that change was about, but it would be nice to have it.  Regardless, I was able to open the file and get to work.  Finally.  Whew!

  • HT201269 How can I open a movie in iTunes

My movie is avi format and I want to be able to play in Itune. What I can do? Very new to Apple.

You need to convert the AVI file to MP4.  Here is just one of the many converters available (via Google) http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/oca/mp4-converter?gclid=CJnqnpaF37gCFc fJtAod8RUAeg

  • How can you create a jpeg from video in imovie 13?

In imovie11 you could hit share, convert using quicktime, and then select mov to jpeg or gif.  that option is not available in imovie13?  Anyone know how to create a jpeg or gif in the new imovie?

When you say you would drag the image itself into the Swatch Palette and it would show the image itself? How would then use this swatch? Can you give an example of what you would apply a jpeg to as a swatch? The only palette that I can think of off the top of my head that you can drag a jpeg into and have the icon appear as the jpeg is the Symbols Palette. Is is possible that you were using the Symbols Palette in the past and not the Swatch Palette?

  • How can I get a .MOV video to open?

A friend of mine has send me a 15-second-long .MOV video file, but I can't open it in QuickTime 10 or QuickTime 7. VLC, Perian, Flip4Mac, and RealPlayer are all duds. The video codecs are H.264 and Linear PCM. I have QuickTime Player 7 in addition to the latest version of QuickTime Player 10. When I try to open the file, QuickTime 10 says "QuickTime Player can't open "MVI_9730.MOV". To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More." I clicked that, but it only told me that QuickTime 7 might work. So, I opened it in QuickTime 7, and the application just freezes while saying "Searching for movie data in file "MVI_9730.MOV".". I had to force quit the application because it stopped responding. Any suggestions?

The file, according to the Finder info window, is about 71 kb in size. The resolution is 1280x720, and, as I previously stated, the video is 15 seconds in length, so the size is somewhat unbelievable. As you say, it sounds like it could be a reference file. How can I tell her to get to the original file? Did she maybe pull it from her camera wrongly? Could she have maybe gotten it out of iPhoto or some other photo library program incorrectly? I'll ask her about the system she's on and what software she's using, maybe that would help with your diagnosis of this could-be "reference file".
The reason I asked for the combined total data rate was to calculate the "expected" reasonable size of the 15 second file and compare that to the actual size of the file according to the Finder. This will normally confirm whether or not the files is a "reference" file even when th file resource references cannot be accessed in the "Inspector" or "Properties" window. As to how a "reference" file could have been created, there are several possibilities. QT 7 Pro or the MakeReference application can used to deliberately create "reference" files. Editing apps (especially those used on IOS devices) frequently do their editing using reference files to conserve storage space on such devices.
Edit: Also, the audio data rate is impossible to find from the QuickTime 7 info window. When I try opening the file in QT7, the program says "Searching for movie data in file "MVI_9730.MOV"." However, as a development, the program finally began responding and asked me to search for the file, but I wasn't allowed to link it to the original video, so it said something about how it was missing "required data" to play the video file. Simply put, the file won't open in QT7. In QT10, access to the file is limited, because when I click "OK", the file closes, leaving the program blank and idle with nothing open.
This is where a media information utility app really comes in handy. For instance, another user had a similar problem recently. In his case the video files were recorded on an iPhone 4 and edited with an app called ProCamera 3.5.5 which created reference files. While the reference files would not open in QT 7, the MediaInfo app was able to provide the following information:
And, based on this information, it was relatively easy to calculate that the 25 KB reference file was supposed to be resourced to a standalone file on the order of 3,000 times the size of the reference file. Further, the reference file contained the name of the editing application that actually created the reference file. As to the delay in opening your reference file in QT 7, that was due to an automatic attempt by the media player to search your system for the missing standalone file and, when it could not be found, wanted you to locate the file manually if still available elsewhere.

See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done?

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.

  • How can I sync a .mov file of a home-made video?

How can I sync a .mov file of a home-made video?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I think those files are Samsung's proprietary format, so only the Samsung software can open and display them.  If they do not make their software for OS X, then you are stuck requiring windows.
I thought the DVR itself lets you save as standard avi as the backup file format?
