How can I open a TCP port?

I'm using a Windows Virtual Machine running on VMware Fusion as a server on a LAN. I need to get communication through the 5413 port, used by WonderWare SCADA. The only client on the LAN shows that the communication through the port can't be stablish, It does send the bit for synchronizing, but my MAC doesn't give any acknowledge. I did it with 2 Windows OS, and it worked.

The Mini is about 1 year old
I am using 10.6.8 Leopard on my mini
I am using a Time Capsule that is about 3 years old. It is an 802.11n
My internet provider is US Cable > the call it Warp Drive Online down here.
I used the tool link in your post and it does indicates the port (20 and 21) did not respond to the test. My computer has had the firewall turned off so I could use this billing program. I bought the computer used about one month ago and for a while I was able to send out statements using this program. Last week I opened an E-mail from a friend who had his account hacked and I am wondering if this has caused a problem - (the message I received wasn't from him) Subsequent attempts to use the program have failed. I also used a couple of trial based antivirus programs to check my computer. "Avast" found nothing. "Bit Defender" found and eliminated 5 harmful cookies. A free "Sophos" scan has turned up nothing either.
As far as logging into the router and using port forwarding if you could give a few details on how to do that it would be a help. The process is new to me. Not afraid to try just need more knowledge.

Hello everyone.
This is really out of my comfort zone, so I hope I don't sound like a complete idiot.
How do you open a port for an application? I downloaded a new application that requires access to ports 1900 and/or 9335. The application will not run unless one of those ports are free.
Can anyone shed light on what this means and how to fix it? Is this doable in Snow Leopard or is it something to do with our comcast router?

Sorry for the delayed response on this as I discovered the problem and forgot to reply.
Another application, EyeConnect, was using the same port. EyeConnect is related to EyeTV for watching live cable on my Mac and I guess it installed some software that utilized my network.
Anyhow, I was able to disable it from launching on login and it seemed to do the trick! Thanks again for your input!

You're probably working with broken client software (bad client test, bogus diagnostic, routing or IP error of some ilk), or the application server itself isn't starting correctly, or the firewall wasn't reconfigured correctly for the source address, or there's an intermediate firewall involved here.
If it's the Mac OS X Server firewall that's blocking the traffic, you should see accesses in the log file, depending on the settings. (If you have an external gateway-firewall at the edge of your network and a private LAN, then drop the server firewall and try it from a local client. That'll provide clear evidence of which components are culprits and which are merely bystanders.)
If you're running the Mac OS X Server box as a gateway firewall, then IP routing errors can easily arise.
If you want to see if something is bound to port 1200 on the Mac OS X Server box, then launch Terminal.app and issue the command:
sudo lsof -i -P | grep -i ":1200"
and see what turns up. You'll need to specify your administrative password for the sudo.
Port 1200 looks to be used for some Steam games and for some malware. Most of the games seem to be UDP, though a few are both TCP and UDP. The malware usually found on 1200 is reportedly largely using UDP.

Pages demo expired, how can i open or convert what i made in pages?

i have searched the forums! no luck with this one....
I have a bunch of pages documents that i created with the demo. I don't like pages. How can i open these pages documents with pages? is there a way to convert them? open with some other application?
This is kink of a rude effect from using a demo, there should be a way to open without pages.

I want to open these documents into something to rescue the content, no care for formatting. NOT an unusual request to be able to open a document of any kind with a text editor! But Apple apparently has everyone convinced that i should not be able to port or open with another application! This is more like a Microsoft tactic then one i would see from Apple.

I have a personal portable flash drive of about 150GB and I would like to work on the the document stored in it. When I connect it to my Macbook Air via the USB port nothing happens. It doesnt pop open on the computer screen and I don't know where to navigate to set it open and work on my documents.
In my last laptop as soon as I connect the flash drive it pops-up and ask me "what I would like to do" and from there I carry on. But in this new Macbook Air I acquire about a month ago, everything seems up-side down and difficult to navigate.
My question is: how can I open my this portabble flash drive when connected to the Macbook Air? Hope that explains well. Cheers.

I have successfully ended the previous transmit,but wen I began a new transmit,it failed. It printed "can't open local data port ",why?
Is it telling that the port is still in use???

I'm trying to connect to two webcams simultaneously in the order:
MediaLocator inputLocator1 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname1:8000/video");
MediaLocator inputLocator2 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname2:8000/video");
But I get this during the second connection:
Cannot create the RTP Session: Can't open local data port: 8000
And I can't see the video from hostname2.
I did a check via netstat, and it seems that both mycomputer is receiving the video from both hostname1 & hostname2:
TCP mycomputer:3236 hostname1:8000 ESTABLISHED
TCP mycomputer:3264 hostname2:8000 ESTABLISHED
TCP connections to both host were established!! But why can't I see the video of hostname2???? I've thought of 2 possible reasons why I cannot see the video of hostname2:
1. Is this set of local data port maintained by Java? i.e It's not the same as the TCP port 8000 that I see in mycomputer's netstat. If yes, Java has assigned its local data port 8000 to hostname1, so it fails to reassign that port 8000 to hostname2 while hostname1 is still connected. Any other way to fix this apart from changing the portnumber of hostname2?
2. It has to do with the custom.jar? I've read in an article somewhere in the forum that the custom.jar has to be customized (using JFMCustomizer) to receive video from two hosts with the same portnumber. Can someone elaborate the necessary boxes to check in the JFMCustomizer?

After all this while, I finally figured out the problem. In my code, I use MediaLocator to code the receiver and the transmitter. E.g.:
MediaLocator inputLocator1 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname1:8000/video");
player1 = Manager.createPlayer(inputLocator1)
MediaLocator inputLocator2 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname2:8000/video");
player2 = Manager.createPlayer(inputLocator2)
Manager would complain "Cannot create the RTP Session: Can't open local data port: 8000" because port 8000 is already used up by player1, i.e.:
mycomputer:8000 maps to hostname1:8000
mycomputer:8000 cannot re-map to hostname2:8000
To work around this, I'll need to use SessionAddress. SessionAddress provides the flexibility to do an independent local port mapping, e.g.:
mycomputer:5000 maps to hostname1:8000
mycomputer:5002 maps to hostname2:8000

There is no such thing. In CS6 only PS itself is Retina compatible. You would have to use CC for full Retina support.

My understanding it that was removed from iTunes recently (I still run iTunes 7.5 from 2007), so no, not unless you downgrade iTunes (which is not easy). You can send feedback to Apple about reinstating it but I have yet to see Apple reinstate something that appeared to have been deliberately removed from its software, despite vociferous complaints on this forum.
