why would an error pop up saying the installer is damaged. The Installer can’t open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions. when trying to install java 7?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select
/var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

I made a bootable disc on an external hard drive, with Yosemite on it. I am running Snow Leopard on my iMac. How can I open the Yosemite disc from the desktop on my iMac? Does the external hard drive need to be connected to my iMac by firewire to do that?

Are you saying that Yos/10.10, as a volume located in a mounted external drive won't appear as an option in Snow Leopard's Startup Disc, in Sys Prefs? I've never heard this one before. AFAIK any mounted volume, regardless of OS, should appear there. I would think that, if it appears in the Boot Picker/Startup Manager it would also appear and could be booted to from Snow's Startup Disk. I can't test this myself, since I don't have Yos. Is what you are saying documented somewhere? -

When I check the Installer Log, I find only these two messages that I do not understand.

I had identical Installer Log failure notices: I used Houdini to view the invisible files and per Limnos' suggestion cautiously dragged
user > library > preferences > com.apple.installer.plist out of that folder onto my desktop and double-clicked on the .pkg file again and it opened and installed properly.
My Installer now works properly on all .pkg files. -

You cannot retrieve the already published site as iWeb CANNOT open it - it has no import facility.
You need your domain.sites file, which you can find under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. You do not need any kind of account for this because it is your domain.sites file that resides on the hard drive of your Mac anyway. Find this file and you can alter your website.
Use a spotlight search to try and find it and if this does not work you can download something called Find Any File. If you really can't find it, then you'll have to start from scratch because iWeb cannot open a site that is already published. -

What is the GarageBand version that your friend is using?
If it is GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5, you can buy GarageBand '11 as a boxed retail version with the iLIfe '11 bundle, e.g. from Amazon.
Then you can upgrade GarageBand '11 to 6.0.5, using this upgrader from the Support page:

GarageBand 6.0.5 will work well with your system. But if your friend is using the newest GarageBand 10, this will not help. Then ask your friend to send you audio files for each track, so you can recreate the project from the audio. Or your friend could also use GarageBand '11 for the projects you want to share, that will run well in all newer MacOS X versions, even with GarageBand 10.0 installed on the same system.

I have a 2007 iMac with version 10.6.8 and 4GB of expanded memory. When downloading "some" emailed documents, the downloaded file becomes a "zip file," which when opened looks like a coded message. How can I open the "zip file" so that it produces a legible document? Please, help!! thank you!!!
A "zip file" is a compressed file. "Zipping" in principle does not and cannot change the contents. So that if the contents before zipping are garbage, or unreadable on a Mac, when you expand the file you will get garbage or an unreadable file.
The first thing to verify therefore is whether the file, before it was zipped, was in a "Mac friendly" format. Can you do that?
You do not need an App to zip or unzip. These functions are built in on our Macs.
And yes, zipping and unzipping using the built in functionality, work fine in OS 10.6.8. And 10.7 and 10.8 and 10.9. -

Hi, everytime I try to install Final Cut Studio 2 on my Mac Book Pro (10.6.2), I get this message:

The installer can't open the package. There may be a problem with file ownership or permissions.
When i run Disk Utility, the package seems to have no problems. I'm sure the dmg is not corrupted since I was able to install this on my iMac G5 (10.5).

Thanks...Locate the original disks and make a new dmg. I've had to do this occasionally. Not sure why the installer disk image breaks, but it does. In fact, I've had more problems with the Adobe disk images I've made. They seem to install once, and then break, which totally defeats the purpose of making them. The FCS dmgs I've made have lasted a while, and I've used them about 6 or 7 times. But I did have to recreate them twice in 3 years.
If it says the installer can't use it, best bet is, you won't be able to fix it. One thing you could try though, copy them to a desktop and then run them. It could have to do with trying to run them over a managed network. -

because I have found an issue when I set advancedAntiAliasing is true, then the textfield (which font is embeded) antiAliasType doesn't work even type is advanced. I need set advancedAntiAliasing is false (in asc1.0 you can set it by .as file)
now i just set the sharpness and thickness to workaround in used asc2.0
but i think that is not great.
so how can I disable the advancedAntiAliasing with fontswf or any other solution?

That setting is not fully supported. You can explicitly call it like this:
./compc -include-sources ../samples/test/Main.as -output ../samples/test/Main.swf -advanced-anti-aliasing=true/false
So, that is the compiler option that you want to use in order to disable it. The example I show you here uses the command line tool but it is a valid switch via Flash Builder as well -

Unable to backup to external hard disk drive (HDD)
I am a new Mac user. I have been using a Samsung 200GB HDD as an external backup for my old PC and there have been no problems between the HDD and the PC which runs on Windows XP. However, when I connect my Mac to the HDD, the Mac has Read Only right
