How can I organize my windows file structure to expedite workflow in LR?

Hello! I'm new at Lightroom2 and am getting ready to import all my current photographs on my hard disk to LR. I began doing this but am finding it very tedious. My current folder organization looks somewhat like this:
each indent = a subfolder inside the current folder.
PICTURES
     Vacation
          Friday
          Sat
          Sun
     Dogs
          Carter
               June
               July
          Cash
               June
               July
     Me
          Long Hair
          Short Hair
          With sister
          With friend
     Portraits
          To edit
          Non-edited
     Photo Fun
          Picnik
          Plants
               Flowers
               Trees
          Animals         
     Wedding
          Getting Ready
               To Edit
               Finished Edits
          Ceremony
               To Edit
               Finished Edits
          Reception
               To Edit
               Finished Edits
          Pretty shots
               To Edit
               Finished Edits
Etc, etc. You get the point....
I have gone to File: Import from disk: Import without moving...and it's asking me to select a folder, select a subfolder, then select individual pictures. I've been doing so and then hitting Ctrl:A to just choose all the photos in the folder. Is there a way to organize my photos in Windows Explorer that would expedite the import, yet still be organized by topic?
I am not set in my ways enough that it HAS to be by topic, but the exifs on them are not all correct by date and I don't remember the dates to correct them myself. I'm just really not thinking of anything on my own. I would LOVE any help I could get! I've been searching through forums and topics similar to this but haven't really found anything very helpful yet.

In a situation such as yours, I tend to consolidate items into folders so I have folders of nice workable numbers of images, somewhere between 20 and 200 images. Now, whatever, once you've imported, do your moving within LR, not the OS! I will select all in a folder and drag into a folder a level or two or three above, and then delete the newly empty subfolders. I hope this helps a bit!
Once you've reached just new Imports of camera output, you'll be flying along.
