Hey guys, how can i password protect my files in external hard drive? I want to access those files both from mac and windows PC!
If you want a cross-platform solution that doesn't require the use of third-party software, use an external drive with hardware encryption. The device will have either a physical key or a numeric keypad. I don't have a specific recommendation.

How can I password protect a pdf file that I intend on emailing?
Hi kimberlyb5119003,
To password protect a PDF file, you need to use Acrobat. For instructions, see Acrobat Help | Security

How can i password protect some files and web sites?
How can I possword protect some files and web sites on my mac air so others using my laptop can't access them?
Set a password for your user; create other user accounts for when other people want to use it. You can create a "guest" login which gets wiped after every logout, if that's more appropriate for them.

How can I password protect specific files?
I have teens using my Mac and sending inappropriate photos, etc., over the internet. I'm trying to save some of the things they've mistakenly left behind on my computer to use as proof of what they're doing. Right now all I get are denials. I don't want them to have access to what I've saved, especially since I have one boy, one girl and I don't want them to see one anothers pictures. Can I set up a file, either in documents or on my desktop that I can password protect?
That would a question for a Mac support forum.

I have a Airport Extreme with a 1TB external HD connected to it. I have it set up so my Macbook Pro and PC's in the house can access it. i have some files that i would like to protect(sensitive personal info.). Is there a way that can be done where as certain folders are password protected? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Would a good workaround be to use disk utility to set up a password protected sparse image, of course being connected directly to the Mac, then connect the drive to the Airport Extreme?
Then, couldn't one use that drive and protected files as normal on the airport? It would just require one extra step of using a Mac to set things up first.
I disconnected my Airport so cannot check it out for myself.

HT201320 How can i password protect my ipad2 email
How can i password protect my ipad2 email
The pass code is no alternative, because it's disturbing the easy handling of the iPad.
All unsatisfied users should organize protests against Apple. Every missing Dollar makes the company more thinking about their customers. I'm sure that I would change the platform, if there is someone taking care about the wishes of their customers. -
Could someone please tell me how can I password protect individual folders?
Hi
I use a MacBook Pro 17" with MacOSX(10.4.7) Could someone please tell me how can I password protect individual folders?
Thanks
Adnan YousufAdnan,
One way to do this is to use Disk Utility to make a password protected disk image of the folder(s) that you need to secure. This is probably the easiest way to do it.
Go to Disk Utility and choose "New Image" and select encryption.

How can I password protect a picture file?
Is ther anyway to password protect picture files?
Not in PSE itself, sorry. The closest (not very close) you can get is to use a hidden tag on it to make it less visible in the organizer, but there are not photo security features in PSE.

I have other members of my family use my iPad for educational/recreational use, young children who may want to play kid games. I don't want them to accdently get into my data stored in the three business apps from apple. I would like to password protect these files.
I would also like to log out of the email systems that I use, so some one else can use this device to access their own emails. By leaving my accounts open al the time, is really asking for trouble from a host of sources.
I can't believe that the iPad is not designed to protect the privacy and data from prying eyes ... Un intuitional as it may be.
Please fix this issue so I create my info on this device and enjoy it fully. Or tell me how I can protect my data.
Thnax.Thanx for your response. Any data stored anywhere should be able to be protected from stealing, malicious destruction or unintentional destruction. Theo ad an be stolen and without any kind ofpassword protection, the thief could get into your sensitive data.
If Apple wants iPad to become a business tool that can be used with ideas, thots, data protected, then Apple needs to provide this protection to it's customers. Now it's unto the users to use it or not.
I know iPad is being considered to be used by doctors, and can u imagine the confidentiality requirements of HIPPA rules... It will make this device not usable without data protection. I am sureweall have heard about hacking going on at all levels. It's surprising that this device's software is left unprotected.
My iPad may be sitting on my desk and my 3 year old grand daughter would pick it up and start "playing" with it. That means I can't store anything on this machine that may possibly be changed.
I have discussed this with specialists in apple stores, and those who have been around info technology understand my concerns and they may forward this request further up. They do not have the answer for it..... So far.
I think data security should be everyone's concern... Be it a one person device or multiple user device.
I hope that some responsible people at Apple would read this and provide the protection that will make this device lot more acceptable in the business world. -
How to recover password Protected PDF Files
Hi ALL,
DO we have an option to recover password protected pdf files locked with acrobat.I didnt remember password's of some of my old pdf files
Thanks,
Mark
http://infopeer.comI would just ask the 3rd party that created the PDF if they could supply unencrypted files. If there is some reason they will not, I am surprised that they have not restricted printing. Normally when Acrobat security is set, you can not print to a new PDF, even if printing is allowed. One option is to provide the ID and password to the other folks who need to review the PDFs. On the surface, there seems to be a license issue with what you are trying to do and you may need to be careful that the company is not at risk. That is why I am suggesting to coordinate with the 3rd party.
Sorry. I don't have a solution but just the statement of concern. -
How create encrypted/password-protected zip file?
Any idea if there's a way with the Java API to create an encrypted and password-protected ZIP file? I know how to create a zip file with Java, but I need encryption and password protection.
Thanks for the link, but that's not a solution. It's 3 years old (and still not resolved) and I'm looking for a Java solution.

How can I access my IPhoto files on Bridge in Photoshop?
Hoe can I access my IPhoto files in Bridge in Photoshop?
This is not a photography question. It is an application specific question, Please post in the Photoshop forum.
Remember, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums. You are requesting help from volunteers users just like you who give their time free of charge. No one has any obligation to answer your questions.
You have to export your images out of iPhoto first. -
How can I password protect my bookmarks?
Say I have some "adult-themed" bookmarks, how can I prevent others from seeing them? I was just wondering if there was a way to do this?
You can't do that in Firefox.<br />
Even if you would protect your Firefox profile with a password then it is still possible to copy or inspect files in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Protect your Windows account with a password and create another account for others who use that computer.
