How can I permanently change a text color in Terminal.app?

According to Terminal's help file:
"To change the color of the Terminal window or text, drag a color from the Colors window to the Terminal window. If you drop the color on an empty part of the window, the window background changes to the color. If you drop it on text, the text changes to the new color."
This works like a charm; I drag a lighter blue color onto the dark blue that some distributions of linux display by default when showing a directory in ls and the color changes for the rest of my terminal session in any ls.
The question is how do I make this change permanent? I tried saving my terminal session into a .term file and opening it, but this change wasn't saved. Everything else was, of course, but not this one.
Any ideas how to make this sort of change permanent?

Sorry, but that doesn't address the actual question. I probably was unclear when I asked, so it's my own fault.
I am not trying to change the color of the cursor, normal text, bold text, or selection. I am attempting to change which color blue shows up when an ansi code for blue is displayed. This can be done by opening the Show Colors interface from the Font menu then dragging the new color to the existing one (so if I have text displayed in Blue that reads "foobar" and I drag aqua onto that text, all Blue text now appears aqua in that Terminal session). The question is how do I make this change permanent?

How can I permanently change color of my junk mail listings? It is light brown and difficult to read.

I'm trying to do the same...no problem choosing the color, but when I used an advanced rule, I no longer have the option in a drop down menu to "erase junk mail". Seems like any combination of an advanced junk mail rule wipes out the option to erase junk mail, and I don't want mail to automatically delete my junk email. I tried outting a stop evaluating after the text color, but that didn't work.

Can i change the text colors in the App Store as i find it very difficult to read the grey text on a black background?

    No, you cannot change.
The only thing you can change as a whole:
SETTINGS/GENERAL/ACCESSIBILTY/ turn on WHITE ON BLACK.
You can test to see if this one fits you.  If not change it back.

First, if you want to start getting beyond the basics with DAQ, you are going to have to stop using the DAQ assistant and do it with lower level DAQmx VI's.  There are hundreds of examples in the example finder.  You can even right click on the DAQ assistant and select open front panel.  That will create a subVI that you can open and see what is going on behind the scenes.  Do it.  I think you'll find the DAQ task is being recreated on each (though I'm not 100% of how the settings are established or maintained in each section of that subVI).
The second problem is you have a bit of a race condition on iteration 0.  Those two DAQ property nodes are running at the same time.  So when you read the AI.Max, it may be happening before or after the AI.Max is set in your case structure.
Third, make sure you wire up your error wires.

  • How can I permanently change the orientation of an I-Phone MOV file.

I'm trying to burn DVDs for family members from some wedding videos I  took with my I-Phone.  Because I held the I-Phone in an upright, or  "portrait" position, the normal playback comes through in a "landscape"  orientation with the images laying sideways.  Within QuickTime Pro, I'm  able to rotate the viewing angle by 90 degrees to be viewed properly,  but when I save the adjusted settings, the original file remains  unchanged in its "un-rotated" format.  How can I change the actual,  native file format so that the orientation is correct for a DVD playback  that does not have the benefit of QuickTime functionality?

The "normal" size of the source video is 1920 pixels wide x 1080 pixels high.  My goal is to crop some of both the top and bottom of the display area so as to reduce the size of the pillar box effect when I export the file in the 90-degree rotated position.  Within Photoshop I made as many as 12 different variations of masks using the same 1920x1080 dimensions.  But when I apply the masks, the resulting views I get are bottom left, bottom right, bottom middle, etc., but none of the masks will display any portion of the top half of my source video?
Maybe it would be easier to run through the entire strategy here. First of all you have determine your workflow.
    1) First of all you have to decide if you are making a data DVD (one that plays on a computer) or a normal DVD that is to be played on a commercial DVD player. Based on your previous comments, I had assumed you wanted the latter.
    2) The next step is to decide which DVD standard you need for the DVD player. Am assuming you are creating an NTSC DVD here which means your final encode matrix will be 720x480.
    3) The next step is to decide whether you are creating a widescreen or a full screen DVD. I.e., you need to decide whether you need to mask or crop your content to a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio.
    4) At this point I would decide upon a specific workflow strategy—i.e., whether to crop or mask the content. Since you mention the creation of masks, I assume this is your preference.
    5) Having answered the above questions, I would now open the rotated file in QT 7 Pro as a 1080x1920 display file.
    6) At this point I would probably scale the display dimensions as needed to most easily work at your preferred target aspect ratio. By this I mean your maximum width is 1080 which works well at a 4:3 aspect (1080x810) but not so well as 16:9 aspect (1080x607.5) mask. Obviously in the latter case dimensions something like 960x540 would be easier to work with and I would likely "scale" the display width to 960 in the "Keep Aspect" mode and allow QT 7 Pro to scale the verticle dimension as it pleases.
    7) Now is the time to create the white mask background at the same dimensions as your scaled or unscaled display screen as currently open in QT 7 Pro.
    8) To create the actual mask, you now black out the area (e.g., 1080x810 within a 1080x1920 screen or 960x540 within your "scaled" display screen) you want to display in your final DVD. This area can be centered or offset high or low to center the focus of attention in your final DVD.
    9) Once you have finished step 8, you can export your properly oriented and masked content to any compression formats compatible with your DVD authoring application which will properly scale, convert, and author the content for DVD burning according to the proper widescreen or full screen settings selected by you.

  • How can I permanently enlarge all text?

Hi, all. One thing I've noticed about my iMac is that despite the relatively big screen, the default setting for text size in all applications is really small, at least compared to the default settings in Windows. Is there a way to get the OS to change the default setting for text size in all applications, including Safari, iPhoto, iTunes, Preview, etc.?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    John

This message is for the benefit of anyone else who might be having the same problem and finds this thread by searching the archives here.
If the OS doesn't have a command that enlarges text in all apps without reducing resolution (i.e., making the picture blurry) at least there's a way to change the size of the text in some, maybe all, of the apps.
I was just fooling around with the "Finder" while dealing with another problem and found that you can enlarge the text on desktop icons by highlighting "desktop" in the left-side column, then going to the menu bar at the top of the screen, selecting "view" then "show view options" and then changing font size. (With any luck, the font size won't revert to default after I turn the computer off or put it to sleep.)
In iPhoto, select "iPhoto" from the menu bar, then select "Preferences" then click the "Appearance" tab, go to the bottom where it says "source text," and select "large." Unfortunately, there are only two settings, "small" and "large."
In iTunes, select "iTunes" from the menu bar, then select "Preferences." Under the "General" tab, the user can change both "source text" and "song text" to large. As with iPhoto, there are only two settings, small and large.
In Safari, select "Safari" from the menu bar, then select "Preferences," then select the "Appearance" tab. There are two windows for selecting font size. I was told by someone in the Safari discussion forum here that this "fix" will not enlarge the text size on every web page, and so far I've found this to be true, and have no workaround for that.
I suppose there are similar ways to enlarge the text in the other apps that come bundled with the machine (I wouldn't know, I never use them). You can see from the instructions above that the apps aren't totally consistent, but there seem to be some menu selections that are more likely to yield success than others.
    Hope this helps someone.

    John

  • How can I permanently change the date format from the American format to the UK's without having to constantly change it manually every time I start a new spreadsheet?

This is my first mac so I'm still getting my bearings with it. I've only used Windows programmes before. I can't understand why it's so hard to change the date format of the cells in Numbers to keep it showing the UK format. The system preferences of the mac show that it's in the correct region and has the correct date but this doesn't seem to transfer into the Numbers program. I was very impressed with the mac until I discovered this. If anyone knows how I can get the date to stay in the correct format without having to go through the process of altering it in the cell inspector everytime then I would be very grateful.

Numbers & most apps, especially those from Apple, use the date format you have set in System Preferences > Language & Text > Region. You can then choose UK from the Region drop-down list. Mine says Custom because I've defined things further as in the second screenshot.

  • How can I manually change contrast/brightness/colors?

I want to simply use some slider to adjust the contrast, brightness, gamma or color balance in my MacBook Pro, but for some reason I'm unable to find it. All I can find is the calibration process, but when I calibrate it "correctly", the screen is a bit too dark so I just want to adjust the brightness/gamma manually AFTER the calibration. How? Where? Please don't tell me that it's one of the "Apple doesn't allow me to do this" things ;-)

    VarHyid,
The only way I know how is though System Preferences > Displays
For Brightness there is a slider in System Preferences > Displays > Display ( Tab )
For Gamma and Contrast you have to use the Display Calibrator Assistant found in System Preferences > Displays > Color ( Tab ) > Calibrate...
Although if you use Expert Mode there are more options.
You can fine tune the Color Profile settings if you use Expert Mode. Then you just go through the prompts and adjust as you would like it.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • How can you PERMANENTLY change a photo title?

I know how to change the title of my photos in iPhoto (by clicking on the title of the image or changing it in the information panel). But when I copy the image to another place--for example, dragging it to my desktop or onto a USB stick--the original title, the one with just numbers, appears and the new title is lost. If I change the title on the icon of the desktop image and then re-import it into iPhoto, I get the new title, but there must be an easier way than moving all my photos to my desktop and then moving them back into iPhoto and erasing the original iPhoto photos.

The trick is not to drag it to the desktop, but instead, use the File -> Export command. In the resulting dialogue set the Kind: to jpeg and then tick the box at 'Title and Keywords' and then complete the export. iPhoto will make a copy of your pic with the title as filename, including any description and keywords you may have added.
By way of explanation: iPhoto preserves your Original file, no matter what. Changing the filename is a change to the file and would require a modified version. Obviously this would be very expensive in terms of Hard Drive space, so iPhoto does not rename the file. Further, filenames are irrelevant in iPhoto as cameras can produce hundreds of files with the same name. SO iPhoto does not rely on them as an identifier.
Alternatively, some folks rename their file prior to importing to iPhoto. To do tthis use Image capture (in your Apps folder) to move the pics to a folder on the desktop then use a batch file renaming utility such as Name Mangler to rename the files and then import to iPhoto.

  • How can I permanently change the location tab on the side bar? Every time I change, the next time I log on, it reverts to the "old" location.

On the left hand side of the screen is a location tab. For some unknown reason this is set to a location I have never lived at. It is set for Brighton, UK.
I would like to change it to where I live and I can do this but when I log off, it does not remember the new location and reverts to Brighton UK the next time I log on.
Not a major inconvienience I agree but it would be nice to get information which relates to where I live and not some other UK location.

There are two ways to use iTunes with an external drive, one is to relocate the media folder to a folder on the external, leaving the library files on your internal drive, the other (not advertised in support docs) is to move the entire iTunes folder to the external drive and connect iTunes to the new location. You chose the first method, which works fine until you forget to turn on the drive before you start iTunes.
If your external media folder is called \iTunes\iTunes Media then process is relatively easy. Copy the contents of the iTunes folder on your internal disk into \iTunes on the external, then hold down shift as you start iTunes and choose the iTunes library on your external drive.
If you external media folder has a different path or name then a few more steps are involved.
Consolidate your library before you start just in case the are any files outside of the designated iTunes Media folder.
Copy the contents of the iTunes folder into the parent folder of the media folder.
Connect iTunes to the library on the external with the shift-start-iTunes method.
Close iTunes and rename the media folder as iTunes Media, then start iTunes, check a track or two, then close it again. (Skip this stage if the folder already has the correct name)
Rename/move the parent folder as \iTunes (or create a new folder at \iTunes and move the iTunes library files, Album Artwork & iTunes Media folders into it) then reconnect iTunes to the library with the shift-start-iTunes method.
If you should now start iTunes without the external drive connected, iTunes will warn you that it cannot find the library and prompt you to choose or create one. Simply cancel, connect the drive, and restart.

  • How can I permanently change my default import location in LR 3.5

I am trying to change my default import location on my MAC Pro Tower, to one of the internal HD's.  I have named the HD Photo Location, and have created a folder in it called it "My Lightroom Photos".  I have been able to create this, but cannot seem to ber able to make it my default when I open LR 3.5.  I have to manually go in and change it.  Is there a way that this can be changed to make it my default?
    Thank you.

Up to now we were talking about the Destination Folder which can be saved as part of an Import Preset.
You are talking about the Source Folder.
I tried what you did with the "Add" function. The source folder that I had selected previously when I saved the preset was not highlighed when I selected the preset.
It seems that the Source Folder is not part of the saved preset. When I select a different source folder (still in the "Add" function) , the name of my preset remains unchanged.
When I select a preset in the "Move" function and change the destination folder, the name of my preset changes to "something, something (edit)".
This behaviour would support my idea that a source folder cannot be saved as part of a preset.
So in the end, if you do not want to import into LR by copying or moving the images from the memory card you'll have to live with having to select your source folder on each import.
When you select Copy or Move the memory card will be detected by LR automatically and will be highlighted. And in >Preferences >General Tab you can also get LR to show the Import Dialog when a memory card is detected.

  • How can I permanently change the opacity option when cropping an image?

I can save the crop opacity at say 5%, exit Photoshop 13, and setting has persisted (Edit > Preferences > Display & Cursors > Opacity).  However, when I crop a second image without exiting PS, the opacity has returned to 75%.  I am cropping some very dark scanned slides, and I need the 5% opacity to see the slide corners and edges.

See if resetting the pse 13 editor preferences makes any difference.
Go to Edit>Preferences>General, click on Reset Preferences on next launch and then restart the pse 13 editor.
