I unchecked the "Show in IMAP" preference in the Gmail settings, but my Drafts folder completely disappeared. I went back and checked it and the folder reappeared (with my drafts still in there).
I like the idea if starting an email on my laptop and having the option of finishing it on my iPhone or iPad, so only saving Drafts locally would not be ideal. -

You can't so far as I know. You can however, shut it down after it's connected to power and it should not power back on as long as it's connected. If the power is disconnected/reconnected, it will power back on.
If you just want to avoid calls, etc. while it's plugged in, you could just put it in airplane mode. -

Don't use the computer in your lap, or on a blanket or pillow. The case bottom is part of the heat dissipation system so it needs air underneath. If you must use the computer in your lap, get a lapboard. There are cheap, even more so if you make one yourself.
If the computer is a older MBP with silver keys, avoid "clamshell" mode when using an external monitor. Those models let a lot of heat escape through the keyboard. The black-key Unibody versions don't seem to rely so much on the keyboard as a vent.
Like eww said, what feels hot to you may not threaten the computer's well-being. Get a temperature monitoring utility. I like this one:

It runs politely in the background and puts the readout in the menubar:
so you don't have to invoke Dashboard like some other temp monitors require. As Dashboard loads all its widgets as soon as it's invoked, the extra widget processes can run up the temps and you don't get a true average use temp.
If you use Dashboard a lot, those processes stay active after the first launch and can eat processor cycles as well as increase temps. I use DashQuit, a widget that shuts down Dashboard when I'm done without requiring a computer restart. It's here:

If you want to hear your music on iPhone without interruption, switch Settings > Airplane Mode: ON.

I have my phone synching with my work Exchange server over ActiveSync, and have 2 personal email accounts (POP and IMAP). The 2 personal accounts are also configured in Outlook 2010 on my home computer. Itunes is also installed on this computer.
I want my contacts from my 2 personal accounts to sync to my phone (which is working), but not have them sync to my work account (this part is not working the way I want). I now have all my personal contacts uploaded to my work account. How can I remove the contacts from my work account without removing them from my phone?Unless you are in the same household, the agreement for Mountain Lion does not allow the setup you have now.

As per the title - I create training manuals in MS Word and save as PDF for distribution to clients.
How cna I prevent them from opening and editing them with Word 2013?You can restrict editing and printing of a PDF document by setting permissions when you create the initial PDF. This can be done as:
Open Word document to convert.
Go to Acrobat tab on Word ribbon -> Select Preferences button.
On Security tab of the Preferences dialog, tick mark the check box for "Restrict editing and printing of the document. A password will be required in order to change these permission settings."
Specify a password in "Change Permissions Password" tex box.
Click OK.
Input the password again in the confirmation dialog.
Go to "Create PDF" button.
The PDF thus created, will have editing restricted. And Word 2013 will not be able to open it.

How can I prevent iTunes 12 from syncing apps?
I know that syncing apps to your computer backs the app(s) up so you don't have to download the apps all over again, but for me it doesn't hurt to start all over downloading all the apps one by one. I have an iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1.2, one day I started syncing the iPhone to the latest version of iTunes 12 on my Mac running Lion (10.7.5). I was trying to sync new music onto the phone but iTunes insisted on syncing all 50 or so apps, half of them about 500MB or more, then on the halfway mark iTunes would not respond, I force quitted, reopen iTunes, and get a popup saying "The iTunes Library.itl is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." I had to grab all of my music, books, and tones folder to my desktop, delete my iTunes library folder, and rebuild my iTunes library all over again putting all of my media back into the iTunes library folder. I did this so many times, sync, quit, rebuild library and get the same results. This irritates me because not only does it consume time, but it takes up space on my mac. Is there any way to prevent iTunes from syncing all of my apps to my Mac?
There are services.sync.prefs.sync prefs related to which prefs to sync and you can set the corresponding services.sync pref to false to prevent syncing that pref.
You can set the pref <b>services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.homepage</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu. -

I was attempting to share a photo stream from my ipod touch with a friend. At one point when I was trying to figure out how she could access it, I believe I entered my apple ID on her macbook to connect to the icloud. She is now receiving alerts from my calendar. If you go to Settings>General>Restrictions>Accounts (near the bottom) and set it to Don't Allow Changes it will disable the ability to change any of the iCloud settings, or settings for other accounts including email accounts, FaceTime, FaceBook, Twitter, the iTunes & App store ID, etc. That would be your only option. Also, as you may know, if you set restrictions make sure you write down the passcode; if you ever forget it you will need to restore the device as new, without using an backup (or restore a backup made before the restrictions passcode was set), in order to remove it.
