How can I preview fonts?

I would imagine this has been asked over and over, but couldn't find an answer googling the questiion.  How can I preview fonts in LR4 when I'm selecting one?  Thanks!

On the one hand, a regular font management application such as the ones you mention, or my employer's own Suitcase Fusion (http://www.extensis.com/en/products/suitcasefusion2/index.jsp), will do the job really well... except that they prefer to work with fonts on your hard drive rather than on a non-writeable removeable disk. I *think* any of them can be set to work with the fonts in place, but you may need to adjust app preferences so they don't copy all those fonts to your hard drive when you bring them into the app. These also offer a lot of other features, but are retail programs that cost a bit of money. If you need the other features of font management, then they can be great. If you don't, they may be overkill. (If you don't know what font management is, see the second paragraph of my blog post on Windows font management, here: http://blogs.adobe.com/typblography/2007/10/win_font_mgmt.html.
Have you completely exhausted all the OS preview options? Any chance you'll upgrade to Leopard? This article offers some useful tips for font previewing in Leopard, not sure if they work in Tiger:

Otherwise, you might want to look at a dedicated inexpensive or free utility that really just does previewing of uninstalled fonts. I can't comment on the quality of these, but I gather FontCat, Font Pilot and FontThing.

Microsoft store will provide a download manager (.exe) using your Product Key, which needs to be run on a PC. This manager will then let you download an ISO image to a USB and/or DVD.

How can change the font in the script output and the data grid in Sql Developer?

You can't easily unless you have the latest version (2.1.1).
If you do have this version then changing the font in the Tools/Preferences menu under the code editor/fonts section will also change the font of the data grid.
For details of changing the fonts in an earlier version then see Sue's post below.

How can i preview my persona in firefox if not submitted yet firefox 10.0.2, I cannot find the option

You can probably do that by installing a persona and replace the two file lightweighttheme-header and lightweighttheme-footer with your persona files.<br />
Otherwise you need the Personas Plus extension.

You need to update to Firefox 9.0.1. - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
The Firefox [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Page+Zoom Page Zoom] feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox, as with some other browsers.
Try the Default FullZoom Level extension and set a default zoom level: <br />

You need to investigate BLOB = Binary Large Objects.
Start with Google where you will find plenty of info to start with.
Next time, you'd better mentioned the OS and Oracle version (4 digits) that you are using.

  • How can I preview uninstalled fonts (multiple)?

    Hi there,
I'm new to these forums and apologize if I'm in the wrong place. I was wondering if there is a utility I can use to view uninstalled fonts? I have a CD with fonts that I'd like to preview. I can double click each, but it is getting tedious. By the way, I'm on a Mac running Tiger. I know I can use Preview, but it still opens each individually in cascading windows. Would utilities such as FontAgent or FontExplorer be useful for this? I would also like to print a sample of all the fonts for reference.
Thank you in advance for any assistance or direction!

  • How can I preview a 1970's song before purchasing it?

At one time I think I was able to type in a song name and/or writer/singer and it would come up and allow me to preview it for 60 seconds.  I can't figure out how to do that now (I think this may have changed once our MAC was 'updated' by a local MAC professional). I'd like to be able to type in 'After the Gold Rush' by Neil Young, preview it to make sure it's the sone I want, and then Buy it and have it downoaded onto my MAC.  How can I do this?
    Step by Step please.
    Jim

THe function is still there. Hover your pointer over the track you want and a little blue play button shows on the left. Click to pay.

  • The font size in the menu bar is too small (unreadable). How can I increase font size. I have a new Samsung PC with high resolution screen.

Hi the fnt size in the menu bar is too small (unreadable). How can I increase the font size. I have a new Samsung PC with high resolution screen.

You must mean Photoshop Elements 11, not Photoshop.
There is no ability to change the size of the menu font in PSE 11.
    note to mod:
Please move to the Photoshop Elements forum.

  • How can I increase font size on LR windows?

I would estimate the font size in my LR (and all Adobe windows) is a five. It's the same on all three of my computers, all of which are operating on Windows 8.
The last time I raised this issue, I was told to change the screen resolution -- pretty poor workaround considering all my other apps operate at the recommended screen resolution for the three computer and one additional monitors I use.
How can I increase the font size to make Adobe applications  usable on my computers?

    Hi,
I also use Win 8.1 and I have a high DPI 13" screen that is at 1920x1080 resolution and it is satisfactory although small.
LR (5.7 current) will not support screens with greater resolution unless you have razor sharp eyes.
We just need to hope that the next release (6) whenever it comes has native support for high DPI screens.

  • How can I use fonts found in iDVD 08 in other programs?

I created a DVD using 6.0 Themes, Pass Through in particular, by exporting a slideshow movie from iMovie 06 and it looks great. Thank you's to forum members for the help I needed to resolve issues. Deleting the plist files and burning at 2 times speed did the trick to problems I encountered. But here's one I've been spending lots of time on: I used the font, Humana Serif Md ITC TT, on the DVD and I would like to use it on the printed cover, however, I can't access it from any other program. I've used Spotlight to no avail and it does not present itself on the list of available fonts on any other program I have. How can I use that font in Pages to use on my printed DVD cover?

Kool! I just learned something new myself. (thanx Niel)
It's essential that you do exactly as stated above while holding down the option key in the instructions that were kindly provided above. The option key serves to copy these files to an alternate location if I'm not mistaken. Holding down any other key but Option may have an unintended effect on the application itself.
So please do exercise caution while working within the Resources folder / showing package contents.

  • How can I substitute fonts (permanently)?

I'm using InCopy CS4 with remote designers. They send files. I open them and am presented with a list of missing fonts.
I install these fonts, but some of them have slightly different names than what our designer used.
All I want to do is tell InCopy to substitute my fonts, preferably permanently. So I click the "Find Font" button to see a list of those fonts.
It *looks* like I have the option to "Replace With," but the "Change" button is grayed out. When I click "Change All," it appears to substitute the font I've chosen for *every* font.
Still, when I view the document in Layout, it has not substituted anything.
Bottom line: How can I tell InCopy to substitute certain fonts in the doc with certain fonts on my machine?
    Thanks!

Gah, font name disparities between Macs and Windows are the worst, especially when MS and Adobe are thrown into the mix. I'm sorry I don't know how to fix that problem, but I've heard it before (and I've run into it before on my own network).
It may be how the Windows database tracks fonts internally, it may be how Adobe recognizes font names, it may be how you installed the fonts, it may be because there's a conflict. I *think* you avoid this problem if you use OpenType fonts, which are completely cross-platform, and you just encounter it with Type 1 and TrueType fonts.
I would try posting the issue to the font experts on the Typophile.com forums, they should know more than anyone.
    http://typophile.com/
I would also try posting the same issue to Adobe's Type forum ... it doesn't get a lot of traffic, probably because it's called the ATM and Type forum, but I just checked and there's some Type-specific questions and answers there.
Here's the Windows forum for that:

If you ever come up with an answer/fix/solution, *please* post it here!
