How can I protect files from being uploaded to the internet/web-based email or being written to a disc/flash drive?
I work for a company that want to update itself to this century. I got all our PC upgraded to Windows 7 and networked into a homegroup. We want to use a web-based appointment scheduler but this means giving our users web access. The main
concern is our .mdb files. We have anti-virus/anti-spyware to protect us from infiltration but we want to safeguard against personnel selling our client list; At least make it more difficult, just a precautionary measure. Do I need additional software
or is it something that I can do in Windows setting? Or do I need a file encryption service that works in conjunction with Windows Access? Sorry for my ignorance and thanks in advance.
There is technology known as RMS which you could set series of policies like only members in the company could access certain documents and if someone copy them and attempt to run them in another PC or outside company, it won't work. Take a look at:

Take the exernal drive appart. Take out the harddrive. Try reading the data via a usb adapter. Put a household finan on the hd.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -

In my spotlight preferences I've enabled only Applications, Folders, and System Preferences. However, in almost all of my searches, many individual files are shown. These are usualy .java, .jar, or .html even.
To exacerbate the problem, spotlight seems to be looking inside the files when it searches/indexes. So I get many files that dont have my search terms in the title. Basically, the things I want are at the bottom, far below a bunch of files that I don't want to see.
Is there any way to filter these out permanently?Found a solution. It is this. But Thomas is correct in assuming I am using it as an application launcher. This fix allows me to resume this activity as it was in Snow Leopard.

There's nothing at all you can do to stop a PDF from being copied, emailed, put in a USB stick, uploaded to DropBox, or shared in any other way. DRM ($$$$) can make it so that unauthorized copies cannot be opened.

Once you're on a spammer's list, there's nothing you can do to stop the flood of e-mail messages. You can either control it, using spam filtering (which is what files those messages in the Junk Mail folder), or you can throw out your e-mail address and get a new one.
It's sad, but spam is simply a fact of life at this point, and there's nothing to be done about it. Legislation has been tried, with zero success, since most spam either comes from countries with no legislation or from personal computers that have been infected with malware and are part of a "botnet." -

Format the external drive as FAT32 or ExFAT. Both computers will then be able to read and write to it.

That's odd - if you open Disk Utility (Applications->Utilities) and select the disk(s), how are they formatted? If you're only going to be used with your Mac, they should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

Goodreader is particularly good in that it has a integal file tree and you can mount your computers harddrive and navigate directly on your ipad.
