How can I purge old supposedly deleted data in iCal?

I normally keep my Powerbook in sleep mode with iCal running and everything behaves normall except for the usual slowness at times. However if for any reason iCal has to be closed down on restart it always restores data going back as far as May 2006 that has long been deleted -- I archive anything I want to keep off to a textfile diary so that iCal should always be looking forward. I've found the only way to resolve this each time is to unregister with .Mac the re-register and download correct data from there ... until the next time. (None of the machines using 10.3 exhibit this problem.)
I'm happy to go into the database with a text editor if anyone has clear guidelines on what would need to be done but I don't want to remove entries then to find the database broken.
Lots of clutter also relating to old repeating entries could usefully be hacked out at the same time -- it doesn't show but it does lurk in the database.

Further information as I had an unexpected shutdown. The system log shows the following three times at startup:
2006-10-30 20:41:52.817 iCal[403] Impossible to create calendar bundle at path:/Users/ag/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources/1D1A7F76-FA75-43B4-8C7E-194DAE6FC780.calendar
Any clues as to what is going on? The .ics files in my Library directory after this has happened contain redundant data going back four years but lack lots of recent stuff. I'm tempted to archive them off to a safe place and replace them with file exports from the current calendar as synchronized with .Mac

Be sure you have your dbms_jobs working and they have run.

Repository Operations
Then check the date stamps in the Last Scheduled Run
They should be no more than a day or 2 ago fore each and every one of them.
If its not, then check the repostory db dbms_jobs and dbms_job.run(xxx) the job.

How can I purge old calendar info?

I would like to purge the old calendar stuff. On my old PDA (Palm) I was able to purge anything prior to today's date. With this I do not see any way to do it (I do not have Mobile Me). If the stuff is not purged then it will build up over time. Not Good.

You cannot. However, if your back up is through iTunes on your computer and you do an internet search for something like "iPhone BackUpExtractor", I believe there is software that will help you access the SQL database that is your back up. You may be able to pull out what you need.
Once you restore from a back up, any data that was on the phone is gone.

How can I verify that my App data is actually stored in the iCloud. I can see and access my notebook, contacts etc. on the iCloud website, and I can see my photos in a folder on my Windows-based desktop compter (iCloud/Photostream). But no app data.

You can't access them on Windows (unless you have iCloud enabled Windows programs) and I don't think any are, yet.
iCloud data is accessed via Apps/Programs, the Windows programs vendors will have to step up (just to make it worse Microsoft have not yet enabled their Mac programs, such as Office yet) I doubt that iCloud access is much of a priority for them, complain to MS, when enough Windows users complain maybe they'll do something.

As already provided, if you don't have such in your iTunes library, on your computer, then there is no way to put it back on your phone. Apps are DRM protected, so even if you found a copy somewhere, you wouldn't be able to use it.

Remember any restoring of bookmarks overwrites whatever he current set is, and you may not want to loose them.
Even if up until now you have not made any backups of Desktop bookmarks Firefox will have backed up some of them into sets of daily bookmark backups. Once you have backed up your current set you could look at what it has by restoring those bookmarks, you may find one of those sets is fairly complete.
By the way if you look at the profile files and folders that you should now have on the desktop you should see it contains a bookmarks backup folder, the size of the files within should indicate whether they contain anything.
You need to go into the bookmarks library and try the restore option. Backup each set that you look at if it has anything of use in it, before trying the next set. With look one of those will be a fairly complete set of bookmarks.

I do not use Firefox on mobiles, but before you try anything further you do need to backup the desktop bookmarks and learn what existing backups you have. Unless you master that you are in continual danger of overwriting and loosing bookmarks.

When I attempted, the iPhone 6+ message asked if I wanted to remove ALL of the backups... without giving me the option of selecting the specific one I wanted to remove.
I had performed 'backups' of my old iPhone, but, when I tried to RESTORE to the REPLACEMENT iPhone, at least one of the iCloud backups shows 'incomplete'. There was no 'error' on the original iPhone...when it 'failed' to complete the backup.
Now, I would like to 'clear up' the 'storage' on the iCloud, but am unable to select specific ones. I can either keep all instances or shut off iCloud Backup which would, according to the message, remove/delete ALL of the BACKUPS.
This shouldn't be this difficult.....

I too wondered how you remove apps from iCloud. Judging by the quantity of questions, comments, suggestions and replies (some rather rude) there is a clear need for Apple to make their literature a lot clearer. The page describing what iCloud backs up refers to "app data" as an item which is backed up. To the uniniated this might mean the app program but it seems not. The app is "bought" via iTunes or the App Store and details of your purchase (free or otherwise) is held there separately on the server.
It would be nice however to be able to remove the reference to junk I have downloaded and decided I don't want so that it doesn't appear on the purchased apps listing! Apple please note this.
It must be remembered that Apple products come pitifully supported by manuals "out of the box" on the assumption that it is so easy to use the product that no explanation is needed. They forget that most buyers of Apple products (me included) don't know (and don't want to know) how they work, so when something is not obvious they are required to plough through Lord knows how many web pages of "knowledge base" material until they find an answer.

I am unable to update my album art on my iMac since I started using Match (and after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3). A message advises that it's not possible to removed old artwork if it's embedded. How can I 'unembed' old cover art and replace?

Normally artwork recovered with iTunes is stored as a separate artwork file and iTunes refers to that file to display artwork when you click on a track. However, if you then copy the file to another player the artwork file is left behind and the track will not display the artwork on the other player. To get around this it is possible to embed the artwork in the music file itself so it always travels with the file. Artwork can be embedded by you or files from third party sources may arrive with embedded artwork. iTunes apparently now won't replace artwork for such files. You can accomplish this by completely deleting artwork for a file or set of files in Get Info, then getting iTunes to fetch artwork which will then be set as a reference file rather than being embedded.
I use an old iTunes so unless you are using an ancient iTunes it won't help for me to give you great details. To erase artwork I simply get info on a series of files and check the box next to the artwork box without adding any artwork and close. To do it for single file I Get Info, go to the artwork display tab and click delete. Yes, it is the same with me. I know a friend how upgraded to iso7 and lost all of his game center data. He tried singning in and re singning in but no change. Plus on to of all of this, apple is like have me and him to re-validate our itunes acount. Somthing weried is going on. So verified my itunes acount and it shows under settings that I am signed in, but when I go to the app store on my iPhone and try downloading or even updating a app, it says "can not conect to itunes store" after singing in! How can I Purge in SQL Express database?

For development purposes, we created a Hyper-V VM running Windows 7 with BizTalk Server 2010 installed running against a SQL Express database. We also installed Visual Studio (licensed) for map development.
Over time, the BizTalk tables grow, and are taking up way too much storage space.
I looked at the "Microsoft recommended" method of purging the BizTalk database/tables, but it requires enabling a DTA job in SQL Agent which is not available in SQL Express (as far as I know.)
How can I purge the BizTalk tables in SQL Express to reclaim storage space?
Since this is a development platform, I do NOT care about ANY historical data being retained, only "system" data (such as parties, etc.)

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.
