How can I put my iMac to sleep after it has finished downloading or uploading something?

For example: I have some photos and videos that I want to send to a friend. I'm uploading them to a site to do this, and they're quite big files (250 MB).
I'd like to do this at night, but I don't want to let the computer run all the night through, when this maybe only needs a few hours.
I can only guess how long it will take (judging by the time it tells me that it will take, if available), and then I can set the computer to go to sleep after X hours or minutes.
Can I not just simply set it in a way that it goes to sleep automatically after the process is finished? Like, if there's a connection to the internet, that is being used (downloads, uploads), then it shouldn't go to sleep, else it will interrupt the upload, and I can start again.
Also, I have an iMovie update now, which is over a GB of download.
I may be mistaken, but I have the feeling that for some Apple programs, it actually keeps the computer awake until the process is done. But it isn't the case with all programs, only with some.
It's really annoying. Does anyone know a solution? I know that there's this box that you can tick, that says something like to keep the computer from going to sleep if there's a network connection, but in earlier OS this was actually working! Now it's 100% useless.

You can just set your Mac to sleep using the Energy Saver in System Pref. Set it to sleep after say, 2 mins of inactivity then check the Put Hard Disk to Sleep setting too. It won't sleep while you are down/uploading.

I think you're looking for '''right-click, delete''' as a way of deleting a message without opening it.
However, in most cases, the dangers of viewing suspect email messages are usually overstated. Unless you follow links, or download and unzip or open attachments, they are unlikely to do you any harm, particularly in Thunderbird where scripts are not permitted to run.

I have an iMac model 7.1 that has an Intel core 2 duo so shouldn't I be able to make it run in 64 bit mode? How? I am in 10.6.8 and it locks too often to be used. I tried the Terminal sudo systemsetup -setkernalbootarchitecture x86_64 but the Terminal said it wasn't a valid command, what can II do to get back to work and not have to buy a PC?

Hi Mike, my head exploded too around page 50. I had bought a used iMac from an official Apple reseller here in Holland. It had an old 250GB HD that was 2/3 full, I had to get my Apple software Logic pro 9 into the iMac, I had, in 10.5 been doing that by booting from an external 1TB HD. Many developers won't allow downloads to external HD's,music software developers I meant. SO the external was a working solution until Jobs died and the company changed policies. The Fire Wire which Jobs had gotten started was working beautifully and since I have many "music Sample libraries" which must be able to throw into a song whatever I tell Logic to use, it worked much better having the libraries on external HD's[all Fire Wire 1TB] so they could effortlessly stream the music samples into logic SIMULTANEOUSLY, since Snow Leopard they have all been trying to stream from the same single external boot HD and that doesn't work well in Logic Pro. I was getting the locked screen that almost everyone on these 77 pages[you are late to this but the original thread had reached 77 pages when I found it] was complaining about, I decided[no idea why] to try booting from the internal HD, even though it doesn't contain the music software I use for work. It boots fine and shows no signs of locked screen or crazy graphics, but I can't do my job from a 250GB internal HD. I am going to the Apple store today to ask the price of installing a new 1TB internal Hd and more RAMM, 4GB's in music streaming is a bit wimpy,and a nephew of mine wrote to me with a link to OWC and said look you can now buy two 3GB sticks of SDRAMM that will work in your old iMac, so that would settle the problems of a 4GB RAMM limit. I don't have the time or money to buy and set up a new mac with only one FW800 port,I can't just replace 4 1TB external HD's with new USB 3's, so having this old girl upgraded would be the only solution for me. I am glad to hear you can boot SL from an external, there must have been something else that was causing the problems but I have to work and ******* around with a locked up screen means no income. You can change the Auto-Lock to 1 minute, I think that's the lowest it will go unless you hit the lock button.

If Firefox is forced to remove something from the cache in order to store something else, it is overwritten. I doubt that trying to recover that file will succeed.

How can open InDesign CC project with CS6 after trial has expired?

Created a project with an InDesign CC trial. Trial expired, would like to continue working on it with my registered CS6 version of InDesign. Problem is that the project will not even open due to a lack of backwards compatibility. In theory I should be able to just open CC and save my project in a format compatible with CS6, problem is that since my trial has expired this is not possible. Completely stuck. Even tried to uninstall and re-install after hearing about a trial restart offered back in January, not working. Any ideas?

That would be great, except for the fact that all of my project files are on one machine. So that would not solve my issue. Unless I am unaware of a way to move my entire project without the original files

There was an eror installing the Audio Content CD 1 and I did not notice. Everything else installed properly, Audio Content CD 2, Jam Pack, but how can I add the Audio Content CD1 after Logic has finished installing?
If you can help me please be very specific as to how to do it so that I can follow the directions properly.

You could re-run the installer, or, once you have updated to Logic 9.1.8 you could use the "Download Additional Content" function in the Logic Pro menu. It will tell you what is installed and what is incomplete.

The backup saves many settings, but it copies photos and other files from the computer back to the iPad after IOS5 wipes the disk. Plugging it into her computer will re-sync it.
