i had restored my iphone to a brand new iphone and it erased everything but i was able to get my apps back because i also have an ipad and that is set to be restorted to icould and so is my iphone but my ipad has all my music on it my iphone wont let me add any music too it from any computer i have tried a macbook and a mac home and a dell laptop but so far nothing is working so if anybody knows how i can get all my music back on it can you please let me know.

Have you checked to see if the media files are still on the computer? See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash.

How can I get my music back onto my iPhone from the the cloud

I have a new primary PC. My music Library is on an old dying laptop. I have found all my music has disappeared from my phone. Some is on the cloud, but it appears to only be the music purchased on iTunes, only about 1/3 of my collection. Now I find all the songs on my iPhone are ONLY iTunes songs and I have to download them each time I want to play them. Since I'm in a regional area with poor coverage, having to download my own songs every time through cellular is ridiculous! How can I copy my entire collection back onto my iPhone? And then where's the rest of my collection? Will I have to rip all my cd's again? If so NOT HAPPY AT ALL. Have also lost all my ringtones which were a Podcast that WAS purchased through iTunes - now gone.

I did this last night, and copied all the music from old laptop onto new one. But there was still a lot of stuff missing, mainly from my own CDs that I'd ripped. Also I'm still getting the icon on my iPhone that the music is on the iCloud. This doesn't suit me because it will cost me a fortune to download each song by cellular when I'm out driving. It won't show on iCloud because iCloud is associated with a specific Apple ID. The music should be on your computer's iTunes and a Sync will put it on the iPad (be sure to configure iTunes properly). If you want to get it from iCloud, I think that you need to temporarily change your ID back to the old one but I've never done that myself.

Buy the songs that your friend put on the iPod that you liked. They had no right to give you the copyrighted music when they sold you the device.

Unless you subscribe to iTunes Match , Apple does not keep a backup of your iTunes library. Even then it is not the library as it exists on your computer, but some version of the media, and only media files, not playlists. Even then not all media are definitely available since anything removed from the iTunes Store since you purchased it is not available for re-download.

Media and apps are not part of the backup. They need to be re-synced from your itunes library or re-downloaded from the store.

A new version shouldn't do that but it does seem to happen on occasion to a few unlucky ones. Restore your library from the backup you make of your computer before you install new software. If you don't have one, this is a learning experience.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

Unfortunately, when I plug it in and press sync, it only syncs the music I bought from the new iPod. Also, I did check the button that says 'Entire music Gallery'.
