How can I put only a few videos/songs on iphone 4 but all on ipod classic?

I understand that I can sync which ever songs I check in itunes to my devices. The problem is I have too many songs to put on my iphone 4. I have all of my songs and videos on my ipod classic (160 gb) and I like it that way. I just want a couple videos and with no music on my iphone. Can itunes differentiate preferences between devices?

Yes, no problem.
First go to Edit > Preferences > Devices, and make sure that "Prevent..." is checked.
Then, connect one device or the other, let it register, click the device name in the left hand pane, and you can select what you want it to sync. When you connect the other device, you can make entirely different selections if you wish.

The computer can tell the difference between your two iPods. When you first plugged each one in, you named them and the computer recognizes each one as a separate disk.
Now, when you plug in your iPod, and you are looking in iTunes at your iPod contents, you will see four buttons in the bottom right corner of iTunes - the first one is to display iPod options. Click on this, and under the music tab, select "Automatically update selected playlists only". Then, you scroll through your playlists and select only those you want to be transferred to your iPod. Your mother can do the same thing. Now you can each make your own playlists from the same music library, and only those songs you want to go onto your iPod will transfer when you plug it in. You can make the same selections for all the other options too (video, podcats. photos, etc), so that you only have to have what you want on each iPod.
I have two iPods, a new 5g video iPod and an ancient 1g iPod, and have no problems syncing each of them with different playlists and options.

This was not a simple task. Got it handled. Had to call Apple support. Apparently, the 160g only syncs the genius playlist. You have to go in and "tell it" to sync the entire playlist as well as the genius playlists. There is also an option for only syscing certain songs. On itunes, there is two sections; one for the stuff that is synced on your ipod and another separate list for the stuff in your library! This is exciting for me as I am not computer savvy to say the least.

But when I try to sync it via iTunes I can only sync from mac to iphone but not from iphone to mac.
If I import them via iphoto all videos are shown as pics and I cannot play them.

Video deleted from pc, but sync to ipod classic

Hi. I have deleted a video that is really important to me by accident. Tried to recover from pc in many different ways but none worked. However, I discovered that the video had been syncronized to my ipod classic. Is there any way to recover it?

Yes you can recover it but it will take some doing. If you are dealing with windows, then when you connect your ipod, it shows up as a drive. All the data on it is under "Drive":\iPod_Control\Music. The names are not recognisable to you so copy all to a drive and ask itunes to add that copied drive to your library. It will duplicate your orignal files which you can delete but will recover your file. A price to pay.

Have you tried the smart playlist function? You can set-up specific criteria, the number of songs you want in the playlist & have iTunes do the work for you. These are the only playlists I make anymore because I don't want to be dragging & dropping individual songs.

I have had my iphone since fall 2010 and I have transferred photos to my computer from my iphone only once. Now I want to transfer my videos and photos but I can remember how I did the last time and I can remember where the instructions are or how I learned to do it. Any help out there? The iphone manual is useless. The Apple help site is useless.
