How can I read a file in a jar file and modify it?

Hi,
Now, there is a jar file which contains a file that I want to modify. How can I get the file. After I get the file, I will modify it and replace the file in jar file. How can I complete it? Thank you.

there is no direct method of updateing files in ajar file
u have to do it this way
u have to first unjar the file in a particular folder
using java code java.util.jar package
than through FileReader and FileWriter class u update ur
the file whichever u want to update
and then gain through java.util.jar package
u create ur jar file again

Here is what I do to read such a file:
I first save the Excel file (xls) as CSV file (which is easier to handle: Comma Seperated Values) .. Open the file using Excel and save it CSV.
Then using the code attached I get all these values in a string array.

In .jar file how can I call API's of other .Jar file

I have created a "MyApplication.jar" file that dose not need any other .jar file Like xercesImpl.jar thne it is working fine.
but If I make the .jar file of application that needs xercesImpl.jar API's
of this .jar file then how I can call that xercesImpl.jar in my Application.jar newly created.

How can I make my source code with jar file?

I use JDK1.6.0. I can open a class file from rt.jar and get its source code. Does this because open source JDK? I wander how I can make my jar file with source code.

How can I read errors/exceptions from my JAR?

My application is running fine from JBuilder, where I am writing it, but when I go to My Computer and try to run the .jar file, nothing is happenning. Is there a way for me to view the error messages/exceptions that are thrown from the Jar? Can I open a console or something like that?
This app always ran fine from MyComputer; it's just the past day or 2 that it's not 'cooperating.' If I could see what is throwing it, it would be easier for me to try to fix with the problem.

Thanks for the tip. I ran it from the command line, as you said, and it waited for about 2-3 minutes, then gave the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
The wierd thing is that it's running fine in JBuilder, so it can't be that there's an infinite loop, or something like that. One thing is that I'm using the .getResource() method to get files for reading and writing. Can it be that I'm accessing them wrong from within the jar, and that is messing things up?

How can I Read lines of data from a file starting at the end of the file??

Can anyone help me with how to read lines of data starting from the end of a file instead of the beginning?? I do not want to load the entire file into memory as the files are very rather large. Instead I want to start at the end of the file and read lines backward , until I find the particular data item i am searching for, then stop.
Can this be done in Java ? I know it can be done in Perl.

Thanks for your suggestion about the RandomAccessFile, I did actually thought about that approach , but wasn't sure it would work.
I do not want to read the file in a sequential forward manner because the files contain large number of lines of data that have already been processed and therefore there is no need to reprocess these lines of data.
The Unprocessed lines are always at the the end of the file and these are the data lines I am interesting in getting at without having to read the entire file. Therefore, i figure that if I can read the data from the end of the file then this would be much more efficient.

How can I read windows comments in a JPEG file on my iMac

I have 120, 000 photos, many with comments added in Windows Explorer, but while they are somewhere in the file data, they are not in ASCII coding so I cannot find any easy way to read them on my iMAC. At the moment I have to use my Windows PC to read the comments while building slide shows on the iMac, which is not ideal.
The Ideal solution would be a patch for Finder so that this data showed in the comments pane of the info window, but I expect that is asking to much.While I am on the subject of Finder, I also miss the ability to sort photos by 'Date Taken' which I cannot see any way to do in Finder.

I found a piece of software called 'Reveal' in a related answer and using that I can see that the Windows Comments and Tags (Mac keywords) are in the EXIF metadata, with Tags 0x9c9c and 0x9c9e respectively. Reveal shows the ASCII values of the characters, and I now remember writing a Visual Basic programme about 15 years ago just for my own amusement that unpacked this data and made it readable. I seem to remember that there were also C++ routines at that time that purported to do the same thing, but I did not have a C++ compiler.
I take your point about the editors, but I am new to the iMAC and still have a lot to learn. I essentially have three new photo editors/organisers (iPhoto, Adobe Lightroom, and Aperture) to learn plus Adobe Photoshop Elements in it's MAC guise, and I am not prepared to use them seriously until I understand what they are doing. In the past I have not found any of the organisers able to cope with the number of pictures that I have - they just go away and huff and puff for hours or days before crashing, if I let them lose on the complete set.

How can I read an ID-value from the LMS and insert this into an URL?

Right now I am struggling with a little problem. Hopefully anyone here knows the answer. For the latest course I am building (Captivate 6), it is necessary that at one point the course reads an ID-value from the LMS. After that, this ID should be inserted into an URL.
To be more precisely: the ID must be read (getValue) from cmi.archive_id and inserted into an URL like that: http://.../archive.php?action=pdf&objectID=ARCHIVE_ID.
Unfortunately I am more of a designer und less of a javascript-maestro (well...I am a javascript-noob to be precisely), therefore I am pretty clueless how to do that. I tried a simple executed action (run Javascript: cpEIGetValue('cmi.archive_id'); and after that open URL http://.../archive.php?action=pdf&objectID=ARCHIVE_ID), but...well...that didn't work.
Any ideas?

Problem opening a zip file within a jar file

I have a jar file in a tomcat web server. The jar file includes a zip file which I've been trying to open with the following sentences:
SpellDictionary dict = null;
File f = new File(getClass().getResource*("us_US.zip"*).getFile());
dict = new OpenOfficeSpellDictionary( new ZipFile( f ) );
I'm getting this exception:

at java.util.zip.ZipFile.open(Native Method)
at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(ZipFile.java:203)
at java.util.zip.ZipFile.<init>(ZipFile.java:84)
at com.iir.newsAdministration.textEditor.TextEditorSpellChecker.<init>(TextEditorSpellChecker.java:62)
If I run the application with the builded classes instead of the jar file, it works fine.
Any ideas about how can I make it work with the jar file?

This is not going to work.
What you need to do is create a Jar/ZipFile from your jar, then extract the ZipFile, put that in a temporary location, then open that with another ZipFile object

I have made a LabVIEW program where I have possibility to read a PDF document. When I made this LabVIEW program it was Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 that was installed on the PC. Lather when the Acrobat Reader was upgraded to version 6.0, there was an error when VI tries to launch the LabVIEW program. And Later again when we upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 I must again do some changes and rebuild the EXE files again
It isn't so very big job to do the changes in one single LabVIEW program, but we have built a lot of LabVIEW programs so this take time to due changes every time vi update Acrobat Reader. (We have build EXE files.)
The job is to right click the ActiveX container and Click "Insert ActiveX Object", then I can brows the computer for the new version of acrobat Reader. After this I must rebuild all the "methods" in the Activex call to make the VI executable again.
Is there a way to build LabVIEW program so I don't have to do this job every time we update Acrobat Reader?
This LabVIEW program is written in LabVIEW 6.1, but I se the problem is the same in LabVIEW 8.2.

If you would like to create a package/procedure in order to solve this problem consider using the UTL_FILE in built package, here are a few steps to get you going:
1. Get your DBA to create directory object in oracle using the following command:
create directory TEST_DIR as ‘directory_path’;
Note: This directory is on the server.
2. Grant read,write on directory directory_object_name to username;
You can find out the directory_object_name value from dba_directories view if you are using the system user account.
3. Logon as the user as mentioned above.
Sample code read plain text file code, you can modify this code to suit your need (i.e. read a csv file)

We can use script component as source/transformation to read the text file and assign the contains to a string. Split the string by chr(30) i.e RS and finally stored into an array or write to the output buffer of the script component.

How can I read the bootstrap files of any HDS Live stream and extract the fragment-URLs and fragment-numbers in plain text?
Could it be that it is some kind of compressed format in the bootstrap? Can I uncompress it wirh f4fpackager.exe? Could not find any download for f4fpackager.exe. I would prefere less code to do so. Is there something in Java of JavaScript, that can extract the fragment-numbers?

Doesn't sound too hard to me. Your class User (the convention says to capitalize class names) will have an ArrayList or Vector in it to represent the queue, and a method to store a Packet object into the List. An array or ArrayList or Vector will hold the 10 user objects. You will find the right user object from packet.user_id and call the method.
Please try to write some code yourself. You won't learn anything from having someone else write it for you. Look at sample code using ArrayList and Vector, there's plenty out there. Post in the forum again if your code turns out not to behave.

The Reader supports the text file (.txt) formats as well as the following two formats:
- EPUB file (.epub) EPUB (OPS version 2.0) supported
- PDF file (.pdf) Support is based on the PDF 1.6 specification.
The default language setting on your Reader Digital Book does not affect the language the book is in. To read books in a foreign language, you will have to purchase them specifically in that language.
