How can I record a basic sound clip?

I am new to macs and switched from a pc recently, so please excuse me if this is a silly question, but I am totally stumped. I have been trying to record just a simple 20 second sound clip on my imac and cannot do it right. I recorded the sound clip in garageband (as I couldn't figure out any other way to get the built in microphone to record) and wanted to save the clip to upload to a website but am unable to save the file in QuickTime. Doesn't look like that can be done. I have only the software that came with the intel imac but I cannot believe that there is not a simple, easy way to record a sound clip and upload it to the web with all the wonderful software that come with this computer. I know I must be doing something wrong - somewhere!
So - what is the secret to recording a sound clip and saving the file so I can upload it to my website??
imac intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You can record voice soundtracks in iMovie just as easily. Within iMovie, you CAN export to .mpg filetype. Be sure to check out the Help menu once you have iMovie running for info on how to record voice clips/voice overs.
If you are going to be doing much AT ALL with sound and video clips, you would benefit by purchasing a QuickTime Pro registration. It's only $29.00 and you will be using it over and over again.

How can I record an audio sound and convert it to a ringtone?

Record your voice using iPhone (for ringtone only 35 secs or under are valid), sync iPhone with iTunes.
In iTunes the recorded voice is listed under Music as some_numbers.m4a.
Right click on the item and choose Create AAC version.
Drag the converted voice onto the desktop.
Delete the voice copy in iTunes. (important step)
On desktop, rename the some_number.m4a to something_more_intelligent.m4r
Drag it back to iTunes and you will find it under Tones.
Now select it (for sync) and connect your iPhone, do a sync.
If everything works out, it will be in Settings > Sounds > Ringtone.
Now choose a contact you want to assign this ringtone, tap Edit and add the ringtone.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I record video without sound?

I would like to record videos without audio on my iphone? Is their a way to record videos without sound in the default camera app? If not than does any one know of any apps that can?

Do you happen to have your phone set for mute?  Apparently (with the Note 3) this would also mute recording of sound in videos.  Using normal recording mode?    Slow mo and other modes may not record sound either.

  • How can I record a QuickTime video clip of in-game action?

I've seen video reviews of games from time to time that show actual video clips of a game being played. The ability to record video clips of a game would come in very handy for me, because I'm experiencing a bug in the graphics of Call of Duty 2 that I would like to record and send as a file to Aspyr. However, I'm not sure how to record a movie of the game. (A screenshot is not sufficient.)
Can anyone give me an idea of what software to use to do this? Or do I just have to film my computer screen using my digital camcorder?
    Thanks!

Like Mr. Napoli wrote, Snapz Pro X is probably your best bet.
It's made by Ambrosia Software, and at only $69.00 -- for it's quality -- Snapz Pro X isn't very expensive. I haven't purchased it yet, but I've used the demo. It's easy to use, with a lot of customization available. You can download a free demo from the right side of the main Snapz Pro X page here [ http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/ ] or purchase it from a link on the same page.
I would suggest downloading the free demo and trying it out, then deciding if you'd like to purchase. Any video recorded in the demo has a blue watermark "Unregistered Version Of Snapz Pro", but I believe that the demo is fully functional.

  • How can I record what the sound card is outputting?

I have an app. that I need to be able to capture what the
sound card is outputting.  That is I want to record anything that plays
from the sound card.  I don't want to
have to route the speaker out to the mic in.  Is there a way to
"capture" the sound as it is being played?
    Thanks
    Bob

As I understand you would like to record the sound (wave, midi, others...) generated by a third party application without a cable loop between soundcard output and any soundcard input (mic, line, aux).
Have you already tried to set the record input on the recording control panel of Windows to stereo mix and to use any standard labview vi (eg: snd read waveform) for recording?

  • How can I turn off the sound from the original midi  or audio tracks when I turned on the duplicate tracks for editing ?

How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps

I don't want to record the sound in my room, but only on the sound I'm streaming

No. Preferably one records using direct input.
Your comment  It doen’t matter whether he/she is recording the audio from the macbook or any external speakers because if the room is noisy than obviously the ambient room noise will be recorded.  is pretty silly really. Think about what you just wrote.
And you do have a bad habbit in your posts of over using ???????? & !!!!!!!!!!!!!
    One is enough.

OK, I understand what you mean now! I assumed you were asking about the normal Fade In or Fade Out using the transition from the Transitions panel. But I guess you mean the Fade function specific to a Cutaway. When you double-click on a Cutaway the Inspector opens. Here you can set the Cutaway Fade duration. But as you say, it only provides for both fade in and fade out as one operation - you can't set the fades individually (it's both or nothing).
BUT, try the method outlined by Karsten Schluter above. It will give you the same effect and will enable you to fade either side of the Cutaway (or add other transitions).

  • How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBoo

for my MacBook Air problem adding music intensifier (Panasonic ST-HT1000) to give it an unpleasant sound background that sounds like a whiz, it's not so loud, but it is an unpleasant .. after a short time can get used to, but the fizz does not pass, however, believe that it is a big problem.
Further I notice that when MacBookAir disconnected from the charger, it remains quieter sound.
At first thought that the headphone jack (3.5 mm Headphone:
Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack) or wiere have problem, but tried 3 different cables, but that does change enything, the problem remains.
When I added iPhonu3GS playing - the background sound were not, then everything is OK!
How can I remove the background sound from the headphone jack for my MacBook Air 13?

There is no way to bring that up unless you have it typed in a document. You can use My Support Profile to find a list of serial numbers that have been purchased or registered with your Apple ID.

  • How can I record an Audio Instrument (saxophone) and listen to a reference track at the same time?

How can I record an Audio Instrument, and listen to a reference track at the same time?

Are you using an external audio controller or the line-in and headphone jacks on the side of your computer? You shouldn't have an issue using headphones when you're recording through the line-in but you may want to make sure you have monitoring on and it's going to the right place.
If you're using an external audio controller, try making an aggregate device combining the controller and the "built-in output" into the same device. Go to Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, click the "+" sign at the bottom left to make a new device and check the "use" boxes to the left of the physical devices you want to use as part of that aggregate device. That is how I use the computer's speakers or headphones to monitor my input as opposed to only being able to use the output on my audio controller.
Now that I see some of the questions on the side of this page I realize that the 13" MBPs seem to have only one combined input/output jack... That is an incredibly stupid feature. What on Earth could possibly justify that design decision? I suppose if that's the problem you're having you'll have to buy some sort of splitter (if they even make them) or get an external audio controller like an Apogee Duet or something along those lines. I would be furious if they combined those two jacks on all of the MBPs.
