How can I recover an overwritten PSD file?

I was working on an image which is supposed to have many layers in it, I merged the layers and I supposed to save it as a JPG file, but I didn't. I accidentally save it as PSD with the same file name, and I turned off the application. Now, I couldn't edit the file, coz all the layers are been merged. Could someone teach me where can I find its backup, or teach me how to recover the old PSD file? Thanks...

how to recover the old PSD file?
No way. You have overwritten it, which is something different than  doing an "undelete" on an accidentalyl deleted file - your data is  occupying the same space on the harddrive now and anything that was  there before is now gone.
Could someone teach me where can I find its backup
There  is none, as obviously you did not do any incremental saves and file  versions. Well, you now have learned this the hard way...

  • How do I recover a corrupt PSD file?

My last save of a 1.5GB PSD file went without a hitch. Routine save, as I always do before closing Photoshop (using CTRL-S). The save was not interrupted in any way, nor did it behave differently than it did the previous 100 times I saved this particular file.
However, upon reloading, now the progress bar stalls at appx. 30% before the thing gives me a disk error.
I have 600GB and 700GB free on both of my hard drives, so disk space is not the problem.
I tried loading the file with both Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 64-bit Edition. Both produce the same results. Disk error.
    Rebooting did not change anything.
I tried copying the file to another location, but I get a "Cannot read from source disk" error.
But it's there, seemingly full size, with two weeks worth of work in it.
I ran a Google search for PSD recovery tools, and there are several commercial products claiming to be able to help. But I wanted to know if Adobe provided one first, then if anyone ever tried any of the other tools out there and saw it actually work.
    Thanks!

I'd really feel more comfortable using Windows 7 repair tools at this juncture, before anything else.
I mean, these are all "Bad Block" disk errors. What's the worst that can happen?
What non-Windows repair tools have I advised you to use?  I suggested a full System Image backup, using Windows Backup.
It's not a software problem, it's a confirmed hardware failure.  Software repair tools will not fix it.  This is experience talking.
The worst that can happen is that the drive will fail completely and you will lose all your data.  And yes, even Caviar Black drives do fail.
If something under the hood of your car goes boom and you lose power, do you just floor it to maintain speed so that you can keep driving?  No.  You stop immediately, to take the stress off your engine so that you don't compound the problem.  Something like a CHKDSK /R would exercise heck out of your drive - the very thing that's failing.  Is that really what you want?

  • How can I save a CYMK PSD file as a PDF in CS5?

I am able to make the file in CS4 on another computer I use (PC).  However when I try to save a CYMK PSD file as a PDF in Photoshop CS5 I don't see the option in the drop down menu?  Any ideas?  Here are some of the file details
    CMYK
    PSD
    8 bits/channel
    Thanks
    Evren

For some reason when I started my computer this morning and went to take a screen grab of my intent the option was there.  Could it be because I had to install Adobe Acrobat Pro?  I guess that would more than likely be a obvious thing-?
For some reason when I was given Adobe Master Suite at work Acrobat didn't come with.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • How can I recover my currupted PDF file?

I was working on comments for my PDF file (writing comments) suddenly my laptop got hung and when I restarted the computer and tried opening the file it showed the following comment "ädobe reader could not open the file because it is either not supported file type or because the file has been damaged"
Please suggest how I can recover it.. i just need the comments I have provided in that document

Generally, that will be very hard to do, unless you have a recent backup with some of your comments saved.

  • How can i RECOVER a time machine file from  the trash

I hope someone can help me... I have spent hours and hours reading forums but none that have addressed my problem.
My daughter gave me her old backup drive.  She also has a MAC so she had Time Machine backups on the drive already.  I started backing up onto this drive about a year ago.  Backups have been done now for a year or so.  Last night I got the message that I was running out of space so I looked at the drive and realized that her backups were still on the drive so I moved them into the trash.  Then Time Machine wouldn't work anymore and I realized that not only did her backups get moved but all of mine did as well.  I need the backups because after I upgraded to Mavericks many of my photos dissappeared from iPhoto.  These are photos that I can't recreate - I sell jewelry and take pictures before I send the piece out.  Everything is one-of-a-kind so it's very important for me to get these back.  I realize now that I never should have moved the backups into the trash as I will have a problem deleting it once I separate her backups from mine but I will deal with that after I figure out this problem.
Is there anything I can do to move the backups back from out of the trash and into Time Machine again? (BTW - I don't know which version of Mavericks I have - I have done all available updates so I assume it is 10.9.3)

As long as you don't delete the trash, the files should be recoverable.
I suspect using the Put Back command could take a long time, so be patient.
If your Time Machine backups are mixed with your daughter's backups you might want to buy a larger drive and move the Time Machine files to the new drive.
Regarding missing photos in iPhoto...There might be options to rebuild/recover that data from iPhoto rather than trying to revert to a Time Machine backup.
Check out this third party app, iPhoto Library Manager. It has a demo.

    Options for a larger drive.
I like the Seagate USB 3.0 Backup plus drives. Works on USB 2.0 ports. They come formatted for PC but easy to format in Disk Utility.
I don't recommend Western Digital because of the boot problem with some of their drives.
    LaCie makes good drives.
All Mac formatted drives will cost more and it’s easy to reformat with Disk Utility. Do not use the software that comes with the drives. It’s recommended that you use Apple’s Disk Utility.
Prices vary but this gives you an idea of what you’ll find. As you notice the second and third TB is usually only $15 more per TB. Normally, you’ll find these prices but right now the 1T is more than the 2T
Seagate Backup Plus 1 TB USB 3.0 $85
Seagate Backup Plus 2 TB USB 3.0 $99
Seagate Backup Plus 3 TB USB 3.0 $115
I have seen the 3T on sale for $99.
Locally, Best Buy seems to have the best prices.

  • How can I restore a corrupted PSD file (MacOs 10.7.5 - Photoshop CS6)

    Hi,
after working with a lot of layers, masks and clipping layers my file got corrupted. That happened in the past but I always found a way to fix it buy copying uncorrupted layers to a new file. Most of the time it was just one layer corrupted. But this time is big, it looks like the whole file is corrupted. Find attached how the file looks after corrupting.
It's a big piece of work where I've already spent a good amount of time. Any tip to recover the file?
    Thanks.

It's in your Time Machine. Just go back before the corruption happened and retreive it.

  • How can I recover email from library file?

I tried to convert from incoming POP to IMAP (per instructions from Verizon).  I then saw thousands of emails in my inbox disappear.  They reside in my library folder with a different name:  Library/mail/POP-(my email address/INBOX/messages/.   I can't read the subject line since they are only identified as 21.emix, etc.  I don't have Time Machine or a back up.  I am running Snow Leopard (10.6)  I am able to click on one lost email at a time and read it (guessing as to the subject line).  I want to somehow transfer all of the old emails from that missing inbox (the ones with the .emix suffix) and put them back where I can read them in Mac Mail.  How do I do that?

The following might work. Shut down Mail, then make a backup of the complete Mail folder in the library by dragging it to the Desktop, while holding down the Option key. You should see a little + inside a circle, which will indicate the contents are being copied. Drop it on the Desktop and let it finish.
Once you have a backup, go to the Mail folder again and drag the Envelope Index folder to the Desktop and drop it there. You will then get a message about reimporting or reindexing. Let it finish, start Mail up again and see if things are back to normal.
Not sure why this happens, but you may see some messages highlighted in brown.

Hi this is Oscar, recently my creative cloud had an unexpected error and got frozen, after this I couldn't acces to any adobe program and solution proposed was to reinstall creative cloud aplication.Ok i did it and now it's all ok, BUT muy I've lost my photoshop presets, panels configurations and some actions....could I recover my old configurations?
    Thanks!!!!

You would have had to save and export them before you did all that, so no, there is nothing to recover because quite simply nothing is there.

  • I downloaded an Adobe file from my email but cannot find it on my hard drive or in recycle bin - it's in downloads but am unable to open from downloads - how can I recover the file?

I downloaded an Adobe file from my email (service provider is MWeb) but now cannot find it on my hard drive and it's not in the recycle bin. It does, however, appear in Firefox downloads but I'm unable to open it from there. How can I recover the file?

    Thanks Rob.
I actually had no clue what the core problem was caused by. So it's Windows itself...that helps some.
I'll resubmit there. It might actually have saved time for it to simply have been moved to there instead of off-topic, though I suppose you have to follow protocol.

  • How can I recover files from an iPod Touch (4th gen) prior to a required restore?

How can I recover files from an iPod Touch (4th gen) prior to a required restore?
The iPod Touch was working perfectly fine.  iTunes suggest that I update the iPod Touch to the latest operating software, and I proceeded to do so.  Then a message popped up stating that the iPod Touch needs to be fully restored - and that all data will be lost.  The iPod Touch now displays the 'plug into iTunes' screen, and is stuck there.  There are irreplaceable family momentos on the iPod Touch.  How can I recover files from an iPod Touch prior to a required restore?  HELP...

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.
You can restore from an existing backup

  • How can I recover files from an hard disk that DiskUtility cannot rapair?

When I push the power button of my PowerBook, while the computer is rebooting and you see the gray screen with the apple, the black screen appears saying that I have to restart the computer!
I have connected the Power Book to another Mac BookPro 2.33Ghz, intel Core Duo 2G RAM via firewire.
In the Mac bookPro desktop I cannot see the HD, and disk utility indicates this problem:
+Verify and Repair disk “Macintosh HD”+
    +Invalid Volume Header+
    +Checking HFS Plus volume.+
    +Checking Extents Overflow file.+
    +Checking Catalog file.+
    +Invalid node structure+
    +Volume check failed.+
+Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit+
    +1 HFS volume checked+
+ 1 volume could not be repaired because of an error+
    +and then:+
+Disk Utility stopped repairing “Macintosh HD” because the following error was encountered:+
+The underlying task reported failure on exit.+
Of course, I didn't try to format it, because the HD contains data that I don't want to lose.
I tried "Data Rescue II", and I can see and scan the HD, but it seems that I can only recover deleted files...
Any suggestions on how to repair the HD without losing the files?
Or a software suggestion that at least lets me first recover the files. If I recover the files, then I will try to reformat the HD.
    Ciao!

Before giving up I would try Alsoft Disk Warrior which may be able to fix the problem:
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
If this doesn't work out you can usually recover most of your files with Prosoft's Data Rescue II:
