How can i recover corrupt .mov files that quicktime does not recognise?

we recently 'lost' a whole day's footage by accidentally deleting it. in trying to recover these files we have used many different programs and have had odd results.... sometimes the data is recovered and shows only thumbnails but not the proper film and othertimes says tht quick time cannot open the link because it doesn't reconise the codec. these clips were filmed with a Canon SLR camera and we have searched the reformqatted sandisks as well with the same result.... quicktime does not recognize the file.
any thoughts? it would be a tragedy to lose this footage... well not really, but you know - a whole day's work!

I managed to rescue damaged AVCHD footage using photorescue. Some files were not complete, but I got them to play by trying different players like VLC, or mpeg streamclip, then exporting the clip as a new same format file. One or two were too badly damaged to rescue, but I got most back eventually.

If not, and you're out of luck, take heart... Photoshop CS6 has an auto-save feature that might be able to help you.
I have also suggested multiple times that Adobe start to make use of the Trash Can / Recycle Bin, so that any older save could be recovered in a pinch. I've gotten fairly little attention with that suggestion, though it would be well appreciated by people like yourself, I'm sure!

QuickTime Pro can't even view DVD formats without some help.
DVD's are "protected" with CSS software encryption and can't be viewed with the Pro version of QT.

How can I configure hyphenation settings so that InDesign does not hyphenate already hyphenated word

For example:
twenty-seven
It's okay to break at the hypen in the word, but I don't want either twenty or seven to be hyphenated. Is it possible to configure this in the hyphenation instructions? I don't see a way to do it other than manually adding every hyphenated word to the user dictionary.

A super-easy way to prevent this is to add a discretionary hyphen after the hyphen in a hyphenated word. This can be easily accomplished by doing a global find-and-replace.
Find: -
Replace: -^-
This will allow all hyphenated words to break ONLY after the hyphen.
Hyphenation settings should be determined based on the overall text. It is good to specify the minimum characters a word should have to be hyphenated — to prevent the hyphenation of very short words — but if you set that minimum too high just to avoid double hyphenated words, you may end up with too loose lines of text.

You don't. You convert your mov file to a mp4 h264 encoded file, and import that into Flash. Then export to swf (in a folder), and you use that swf in your page (do not forget to upload all the other assets as well).
Alternatively, convert to html 5 video files which are also supported by mobile devices.

Basically I like the control over the compiling process that I get by using Ant - but I really want traces to come up immediately without having to switch contexts.
I have an ant file that successfully launches a swf in the flashplayer - but I don't know how to make the flex console start displaying the trace output. I assume that I will have to point it to the appropriate trace output file - but I am not sure how to have ant even address the console. Is this possible?
Here is the the target node from my ANT file:

If your files are this large, ExportPDF is the wrong tool for you. You need Adobe Acrobat, which runs locally and does not need to send your files to Adobe.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

You CAN'T download published files and then edit them in iWeb because iWeb can't open them - it has no import facility so is unable to open any html or css files - a previously published site.
You can download these files yes, but you'll need to use them as a guide or to cut and paste text from there whilst you re-build your site in iWeb.
The only other way is to download the files and then open them with an html editor such as TextWrangler or use one of the other web design programmes out there that is capable of importing html and css such as Dreamweaver of Flux 4.
These are your only alternatives as iWeb can't import and if you want to continue to use iWeb, then you'll have to re-build your site from scratch. If you do just remember to back up your domain.sites file this time around - it is found under your User/Library/Applicaion Support/iWeb/domain.sites.

OK. A couple of things. You don't really have a text file. It's a scan, so it's actually a photo of letters that isn't searchable or stored as text. I'm sure that if it was really text it could be measured in tiny KB (not MB), like a long email. If you want to convert it to real text, use some software that runs Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on it. That would result in an extremely small file for truly searchable text.
OCR software comes with many scanners but usually not with the cheapest scanners. Some shareware can do it. Acrobat can do it (the paid version not the free version).

That may seem bizarre but it is normal. A file must be re-encoded for network compatibility during e-mail transmission, and that causes some types of files to bloat back up. Start with the Plus sign in the Setting pane> New Setting. Choose MPEG4 from dropdown. Give it a name and save and it will be saved in your custom presets. Make adjustments to resolution, bit rate, etc in Inspector.
