How can I recover files created in the guest account?

I set up a guest account for the kids to use, and my wife then used my Mac to type up a word document (for over 3 hours) and saved it at the end of the evening. The next day she returned, and it had gone! I now read that the "Guest account" deletes all files when the computer is switched off (what idiot decided to make this deletion so immediate and so permanent, I am perplexed, why not at least put them in a temporary folder?).
This document must still be there, surely, just "invisible". Please please, how can I get it back without parting with hundreds of pounds for file recovery document, it is just one file from yesterday!
(I switched from PCs to Mac's when we bought a new Vista laptop at work and couldn't find the "file" and "open" commands on a drop-down menu top-left of screen - the Mac-fans at work promised me that Macs were "so intuitive" and "so much better than a PC". They lied. Macs and PCs are both designed by geeky-types who want more and more complex systems, when all I want is a computer that does what I ask without too much clever stuff (like deleting 3 hours of work because my wife happened to be in the wrong account). I have wasted as long trying to find said file....I'm so depressed.

I'm sorry you've lost files, but when you set up an account as Guest, there's a message that clearly states "When a guest user logs out, all information and files in the guest account's home folder are deleted". If you want an account where files are retained, you should create an Admin or Standard type.
You will need to use data recovery techniques to see if your file can be recovered. The more that you use your computer, the greater the risk that the file will be overwritten. You can contact a professional data recovery service such as DriveSavers (which will be expensive, but you can judge the value of the file) or try something like Data Rescue. The latter has a demo which you can install to determine if your file can be recovered, and then, on purchase, you can actually recover the file.

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.

No recycle bin. When selecting Delete for a photo in the Camera Roll, a big red Delete Photo button is provided along with Cancel. Selecting Delete Photos means deleted.
Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. The Camera Roll is also included with your iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. iPods, iPhones, and iPads aren't tied to one particular iTunes accout/Apple ID. So there are no special instructions to follow to allow you to sync it with your newer account. Simply sync it as you would your iPhone 4.

Yes, it's not for GUI only using folks.
Free Linux alternatives are awkward. First, you have to download a Linux ISO and burn it to a DVD. Then boot the live demo and install Linux. That requires first partitioning the hard drive. And, on and on. It's nice if you already have a Linux installed.
Linux doesn't have to be installed. It can be loaded into RAM for the duration of the recovery.
Even if PartedMagic can be downloaded with a bootable Linux system it must still be burned to a DVD.
Any computer can be used to burn the ISO to disk, which makes it attractive in that regard.
Once PM is burned and booted off of it's loaded into RAM and flushed upon a reboot.

Those "bootable cd's" of Data Rescue, File Salvage, and TechTool are probablly using Linux as it's a free OS.
Apple won't allow their OS to be used, Microsoft charges a huge license fee. So that only leaves Linux.
The user likely won't know that they are using Linux when using the bootable recovery disk, all they see is the recovery GUI.
Data Rescue is likely best downloaded, installed and run from a familiar OS X installed on a new HFS+ formatted external drive, then option booted from.
This would be faster than waiting for bootable disks to arrive in the mails. One has to use a exteranl drive anyway larger than the drive being recovered to hold all the potential recovered data.

I have connected the Power Book to another Mac BookPro 2.33Ghz, intel Core Duo 2G RAM via firewire.
In the Mac bookPro desktop I cannot see the HD, and disk utility indicates this problem:

Of course, I didn't try to format it, because the HD contains data that I don't want to lose.
I tried "Data Rescue II", and I can see and scan the HD, but it seems that I can only recover deleted files...
Any suggestions on how to repair the HD without losing the files?
Or a software suggestion that at least lets me first recover the files. If I recover the files, then I will try to reformat the HD.

Unreadable project in imovie HD...how can i recover files?!

sorry for my very bad english.
i've just bought few days ago ilife 06 cause i needed imovie HD....in 5 days working on a new project i had lots of problems: the program was crashing most of the time i was trying to add transitions to some photos...no problem with the .avi files i was working on, lots of problems with the stills. and then half an our ago the program did not allowed me anymore to save the project...then when trying to add a transition the program crushed, and when i've tried to open back the project there was a note saying that the project is ureadable....when this use to happen with previous versions od imovie it wad easy...just copying the Media files...but in these new imovie Hd there are no project folders.....i have to solve this problem in no more than 2 days....i have a very important deadline and i really don't know what to do....please somebody help me!!! i'm desperate!!

The iMovie 6 project has changed from what it was in iMovie 4 and earlier. Instead of saving the project inside a folder, the project is saved inside a Finder "package". A package is a special kind of folder that looks and acts like a file, but it can hold other files and folders.
To look inside the project package, Control-click on the package in the Finder and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu. A window will open showing the files and folders inside the package. The Media folder is the same as the Media folder of earlier projects.
• There are two project files in the package. One is the current version of the project, the one you last saved. The other, which has a tilde character (~) in its name, is a backup. It's the project as it was BEFORE you last saved. When you saved, the previous version of the project file was stored in the file with the tilde.
You may be able to use that tilde file to rescue the project. How to is described here:

The company want that I create a link in a subarea of the portal of Employee Self-Service and that call a file test.pdf and the employee can display this odcument.
I found in this forum that this is posible upload this file in the KM; But i don't have idea of How do this.
The steps that I have idea is when I have the URL for create the resource and the service and assign this service to a subarea in the portal of Employee Self Service.

At first you need to upload the required pdf file in KM repository uder documents folder .
You can crteate your own folder inside the documents folder and then upload the pdf file there.
After that you need to create KM document iview in PCD.
Below steps are for creating the KM Document iview
1) Select the Folder you have created in PCD for project purpose.
2) Right Click the Folder and in the Panel, choose Iview.
3) In the displayed iview wizard, choose iview template (This is the Source Type in the RoadMap)
4) Click next, in the template selection wizard choose KM Document iview and click next
5) In the general properties provide iview name, id and description and click Next button
6) In the next step click Open Object for Editing and click ok button
7) In the properties view Edit path to Document property
For Example there is a document with some name in the Folder created by you which is under Documents folder. Give the path of this document.
Eg: /documents/<your folder name>/<filename>
8) Save the changes and Select preview for testing then the iview displays your file contents.
