How can I redownload music I previously bought?

I have a number of tracks that I have purchased through my account on itunes. Recently, I lost everything on my computer, which of course includes my music. (I have it backed up on my ipod which is set up to act as storage as well, but it's been lost for months which obviously *****.) I don't know if it's the new itunes format, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to redownload my music! When I'm in my account on itunes, it says I have one item that is ready to be downloaded, but I've never heard of it before in my life!
Any help on this matter would be awesome.

What types of content that you can re-download depends upon what country that you are in (and whether it's still in the store) .

What you can re-download will show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone (and the App Store and ibookstore in the iBooks app), and on your computer's iTunes via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the store home page.
If you can't re-download it then you should be able to copy it over from your phone to your computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases

It's a shame that it took a post on a discussion board to get this resolved, when going through the correct channels failed, but everything is working now, so that's the main thing.

Whether you can re-download music depends upon what country that you are in. If you are in a country where you can re-download music, and it's still in the store, then it should appear under the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone, and the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes. If only some of it appears there, then is some of it hidden (hiding and unhiding), or the record companies may have removed it from the store.

You are most welcome! And glad that things continue to work well. I knew about that song vs. album thing, because when you go into an iTunes album that you have purchased a song from, it says Purchased next to the song. But, when you go into another album that has that song, it is still "purchase-able". Make sense that iTunes would have no idea of where the exact duplicate of that song might be, because it is often the case that when the same song appears in a different album, it isn't an exact duplicate - maybe it's live, maybe it's 2 minutes longer....
So, hopefully that does explain the "duplicates". Think of it in "real" (vs. virtual) terms. If you bought a single from a record store, and then bought an album that also had that same song on it, you would have two of them. Despite the fact that it is a virtual purchase, it works the same way. Except that iTunes keeps track of the "singles" that you purchase, and if you are purchasing the same album that you bought the single from, you don't pay for it again - something a "real" record store wouldn't be able to do. Bonus!!!
It's only when you purchase a different album with that song on it that you will have a duplicate....

How can I redownload an app I bought?

I bought the latest version of Growl on the App store, then later forgot I already had it and used the Growl uninstaller to remove it, thinking to buy the latest version...duh. Now on the app store it says it is already installed and I can't seem to find a way of re-downloading it to reinstall it. The app store is a pain this way. Are downloaded apps kept somewhere locally after purchase? This would help when reinstalling is needed. I always keep a copy of a new/updated app in a folder in case of need, but haven't figured out where apple puts this on the OS, assuming it does...

I usually use a jumpstick or a usb stick. Put all my music from the library and drag it into the stick. When I hook it up to the other computer I just plug it in open it and transfer it into my music file click on it and it'll save into itunes. That's just a easier for me. I'm sure there are other ways too

Media (musiv, films, tv, tv shows) can only be downloaded once, which is why you are advised to make and maintain backups of your content, especially purchased content. load the current version of I tunes on the laptop and sync the pod. Then sync the phone - you can select all or as much of the music you want to.
Also - if the music on the pod was purchased from the itune store in the first place, you should be able to redownload it to the phone for free, as long as you are using the same apple id that it was bought with.

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver. Use something like this:

Create new IDs for each by:
Create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use that Id only for:
- Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into the new one. Make sure that only that ID email address is listed.
- Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into the new . Make sure that under You can be reached at only the new ID email address is listed
- Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with the new one
Continue to the one one common ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores. That is what controls purchases.
