How can I reduce the column width in a spreadsheet according to the text?

Hi,
I added a spreadsheet to a pages document and now I want to reduce the column width so that it fits the content (text).
I tried it the other way around: I added very small columns and then chose the adjust-automatically-option in informations. This worked, the columns became broader and matched the text.
Now I got a lot of spreadsheets which columns are too broad. When choosing adjust-automatically just nothing happens. What can I do?
Sorry if this sounds a little weird, I'm using English seldom at time and don't know which words to choose to describe my problem properly. Hope someone can help me nevertheless?
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
In Pages, the table Autosize feature pertains to Row Height, not Column Width. Numbers has more Table sizing options than Pages does, so you might want to consider looking into doing your work in Numbers.
In Pages, there are slight differences in how tables behave depending on whether they are Inline or Floating. You might want to experiment with that. Long tables, however, must be Inline.

  • How can I protect formulae in a newly created spreadsheet without locking the whole sheet ?

    How can I protect formulae from being overwritten on a newly created spreadsheet without locking the whole sheet ?

    Olly,
    I'll be picky here on nomenclature ;-)
    Tables and other Obects can be locked, but Sheets can't be locked.
    If you wish to shield some parts of your content from accidental modification, arrange your layout to put that sensitive content in tables separate from the tables that need to be accessed, and lock the sensitive ones. It's also possible, but rather clunky, to place shields over the sensitive area. A shield can be made by Inserting a Shape and positioning the shape over the sensitive area. With the shape selected, go to the Graphics Inpector and set the Opacity of the shape to zero. You will then be able to see through the shape but will no be able to Click through it to get at the cells below. This method is inconvenient because you have to worry about keeping the shape aligned with the table should the table need to change size or shape.

  • How can I set a specific value for a field, according to the option selected in a previous drop-down menu?

    Eg.: I have a drop down menu with the following options: "1,2,3,4,5". What I want to do is the followin: If the option selected is "1" the field "Color" must be filled with "Green", if "2" the field color must be filled with "Red", etc

    You can use something like this as the custom calculation script of the color field:
    var v = this.getField("Dropdown1").valueAsString;
    if (v=="1") event.value = "Green";
    else if (v=="2") event.value = "Red";
    // etc.
    else event.value = "";

  • How to set the column width of JTable

    I want do remember the column width and write it to a file, when the window is started , the column width is read from the file and the table is set as that. I also want the column width is not fixed and can be changed by mouse.But I am always failded.
    How to do? would you please help me!
    Thanks a lots.

    To "remember" the column widths, add a mouse listener to the table header. Upon mouseReleased(), get the column widths and save them to your file. When the application starts next time, get the stored widths and set them using:
    table.getColumn("XXX").setPreferredWidth(...);
    By default, your columns are adjustable, but you can use:
    table.getTableHeader().setResizingAllowed(true);

  • How to set the column width in the PDF exports of interactive reports ?

    Hello,
    I have a huge problem with the PDF export for the Interactive reports. I'm using APEX 3.2.
    I have to produce a PDF report in landscape format that show 21 columns. My problem is that the columns have a ridiculous short width and that the text inside the columns do not wrap in the columns. So I get things like that :
    Date Name
    2011 Leina
    I should see 2011-08-01 and the name Leinad Jan
    I tried several things to format the columns, but none of the them has any effect on the PDF itself.
    1) I used HTML code in the report query. It works well with the interactive report, but display the HTML tags in the PDF.
    2) I used css to set the width of my columns. It works in the interactive report, but not in the PDF, the column width do not change.
    It's like the report do not notice that my page format is Legal 14 x 8.5 (Landscape) and still believe it's 8.5 x 11 (which is "portrait")
    Do you have any idea so set the columkn widths in the reports ?
    Thank you !

    How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
    With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • How to fix BW Query column width globally before query execution?

    Dear Experts,
    Regarding the BW Query run in Business Explorer, the width of the first column A of the result displayed in Excel is usually based on the width of the query title.
    I know that we can adjust the column width in Excel: right click on the column and change the properties as "Do not adjust column width" on refresh. But how can I change and fix this width globally (regardless of the actual length of the cells) inside the analyzer during query design, and before the result coming out in Excel? I want the change is on the "Change query (global definition)", and not inside the Excel.
    Thanks & regards,
    James

    Hi,
    The column width is determined by the Analyser at the runtime  and is taken by the settings done at Infoobject level in "Business Explorer tab". Like short text will have X width column.
    If you need to have fixed column with different from what is proposed by the system u need to save ur query as Woorkbook.
    or if u are displaying them in WEB ANALYSER then u can have report designer to control the formatting.

  • Is there a way to adjust the column width of only one cell

    Using iWork '09: specifically Keynote '09 and want to adjust the column width of just one cell in the column, not the other cells in the whole column just this one individual cell. Have no idea how to do it though. Checked the manual and this discussion group as well as youtube and found nothing.

    Perfectly normal, this feature is unavailable.
    Keynote, Numbers and Pages use quite the same code to build tables which are in fact spreadsheets and this code doesn't offer this feature.
    As you don't give many details, look at the merge cells feature.
    Given your exact problem, it may be a soluce.

  • How can i Auto Size the Column width in RDLC Report

    Hi Friend's,
    I have created Windows application with RDLC Report. I am binding(Generating) dynamic columns and data's in RDLC Report Using Matrix control, I need to make Auto size of Column width for each Column in
    Matrix of RDLC report. So Can any one suggest me to make the Auto Size of Column Width in RDLC.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Mohan G

    Hi Mohan,
    In Reporting Services, the column width/height is hard-coded, hence, we cannot set the column width/height dynamically or based on an expression. So is the report size.
    In addition, since it is a RDLC report, we need a ReportViewer control to display this report within a custom application. If you need to change the size of the whole report, we can set the AsyncRendering property of the ReportViewer control to false, and
    set the SizeToReportContent property to true.

  • How do you change the column widths in a master-detail input form?

    I have changed several columns to af:inputText so that the field contents can be modified, but this defaults the column width to a huge size, way past the size of the actual data field itself. Modifying the width attribute is ignored and dragging the column dividers is also ignored.
    How do I reduce the widths of these columns?

  • How to extract the column width in ALv report if its executed in background

    I am executing an ALV report in background , in front end i am getting data properly, in back end for some columns some of the digits are missing.For example if PO no is of 10 digits it will display only 8 becos column size is like that , how to extract coulmns in back ground.
    I have executed in background and checked the spool and  for some of the columns width is not sufficient to display comeplete data so please suggest how to extract the columns sizes if executed inj background for an ALV

    Hi Deepthi,
    you can try with the above mentioned suggestions ,if its worked its fine ,
    If not use Docking container instead of custom container, For ALV in back ground jobs, its suggest to use docking container instead of custom container , below you can find the declaration for docking container and code to use docking and custom container in your program for fore and back ground.
    or you can use docking container alone for both operations.
    Data : G_DOCK1 TYPE REF TO CL_GUI_DOCKING_CONTAINER,
    IF CCON IS INITIAL. (ccon is container name )
    *Check whether the program is run in batch or foreground
        IF CL_GUI_ALV_GRID=>OFFLINE( ) IS INITIAL.
    *Run in foreground

  • How can I modify column width in a spreadsheet report without using an Excel template

    I currently use the LabVIEW Report Generation toolkit in LabVIEW 2011SP1 to create simple spreadsheet reports that I can build/print without having Microsoft Office products installed.  I really like being able to do this, and it allows me to generate nice on-demand data reports - I'm also not tied to having Office installed on the system I'm using, so this works on just about any test fixture I can install the software on.
    I recently have a requirement that I must have variable-length columns in my report.  I currently use the VI "Append Text Table to Report" in order to create a text table, but the column width requirement is that all columns must be equal width UNLESS I use an Excel Template file to define my column widths.
    My questions are:
    Is it possible to create a text table and define per-column widths without using an Excel Template?  If so, how?  My report mainly has a lot of small numerical values for the columns, but some columns contain system names or status messages - I really hate the longer text blocks wrapping and taking up so much real-estate when if I could control the column widths I can get all my data on a single line.
    I'll admit I haven't tried this myself yet, but if I use an Excel Template will that require me to have Excel installed on the PC in order to print/generate reports?
    Is there a recommended way (with an example) of generating a text table in a report with or without using the "Append Text Table to Report" VI that allows me to have custom column widths that doesn't require me to manually build a custom print page?  If I do have to create a custom print page, what would be the most straightforward approach?
    Thanks!
    -Danny

    Sure, I'll provide a pared down example that demonstrates my use-case:
    I have a control to the VI that takes in a 2D array of strings representing the data I want printed in a table.  I am generating a standard report, adding a table to the report, and printing it.  The first VI is "New Report.vi", the second VI is "Append Table to Report.vi", and the third is "Print Report.vi", all found standard in the Report Generation palette.
    Note that the "Append Table to Report.vi" has an input parameter "Column Width" with a default value of (1).  This input parameter is a single input parameter, which defines the column widths of ALL the columns in my table - hence, with the VI the way it is, all my columns will be 1 inch wide.
    I find myself needing to be able to define per-column widths, not just a single global column width parameter.
    The only way I have found to do this is by using an Excel template file.  The "New Report.vi" takes in a "template" parameter, and if used, the report generation toolkit can be set to ignore the "Column Width" input parameter on the "Append Table to Report.vi" by setting the width value to -1.  Instead it will launch Excel, open the template file provided, build the table using the template, will close Excel, and will attach the generated table to the report.  However, I have a strict requirement that Microsoft Office NOT be required to be installed on the computer.
    So, without using Excel, is there a way to generate a table in a report and define the width of each column individually?
    -Danny
