How can I regain Full Read Write access on my BU Drive?

Prior to Yosemite upgrade, I had Read Write access to my BU hard drive and now I don't !! I can't update files on my back up drive.  Help!  I tried looking through help files and I am listed as an administrator on my iMac.

When you get info on the external drive, at the very bottom is a box you can check
"Ignore ownership on this volume"...
If you check that, then see if you can delete and move things around.
If that doesn't work then try clicking on the + sign and adding you as an admin so you can Read & Write.

  • I have a FAT 32 External Hard Drive marked as Read Only that is unchangeable by an administrator or root user, how can I make it read/Write

    Hello, All,
I have a FAT 32 External Hard Drive marked as Read Only that is unchangeable by an administrator or root user, how can I make it read/Write without reformatting it ?

    Hi Kappy,
Just wondering if you had any advice for my situation . . .
My time machine backup was backing up to a drive that was "Mac OS X Enteded Journaled, Case Sensitive."  I had no idea what this meant, or that it would even cause issues.
I took my computer to the Apple store yesterday, and they wiped it clean.  When they tried to restore it from the Time Machine backup drive, it would not work.  Their guess is that Time Machine cannot restore from a drive that is "case sensitive."
Any thoughts on how I can convert my time machine backup data from a "case sensitive" state, to a "non-case sensitive" state?  I've tried to just drag and drop the files from the case sensitive formatted drive to a new drive that I have that is formatted non case sensitive, but I get the following error message:
"The volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup"
I just really want my data back - I thought TimeMachine was the way to go (and was supposed to work) but unfortunately it is not.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • How do I give myself read/write access/permissions for my external drive?

Im a brand new Mac user, so please stay with me.
I have an external drive and I can't delete, modify, ANYTHING on it. When I go to "Get Info" it says "You can only read" under sharing & permissions. How do I change this?

  • External Hard drive suddenly will only read! How can I make it read/write again?

    Hi folks,
I'm working with a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 320gb External Hard Drive on the imacs here at my university. I have it formatted to ExFAT so that I could use it with my pc as well but I've never had to so far so it's only ever been used on the uni imacs.
It's been fine for working on media projects until suddenly when i came back to uni after the Christmas break I went to continue working on a film project and realised the external hard drive now said read only??
One thing I did was to put all of my work from last semester (which is everything that was on the hard drive into a single folder) could that have caused the problem?
And does anyone know how i can reset my permissions to read/write without causing damage or risk to the files on the hard-drive as I can't clear the disk (i have no where else to store the 185gb of video footage).
I'd really appreciate it if anyone could tell me how i can fix it? I know how to do all of this on my pc but i've no idea with the mac as i only use it for my media projects here in the university.
    Thanks!

Out of curiosity , will this method also work for an external drive formatted to NTFS.. I have a lot of data that I have nowhere to Float while re-formatting the drive , so If this method would allow me to keep the data and still fix the problem that would be great !!  At the moment the drive is formatted to NTFS and permissions say Read/Write , but I can only Read.. Very Frustrating as my mac drive is running low on space and performance is being affected.. Any help appreicated !!

  • How can my FP-2000 read/write to my FP-1600?

I want an FP-2000 to be able to read and write to digital I/Os on an FP-1600. I created an iak file that listed both devices and their channels. The vi worked when running from LabView for Windows, but when I tried to run it on the FP2000 it would not create tags for the channels on the FP1600. It did not recognize the existence of an additional comm resource or its devices, even though I was careful to download the iak file before running the vi.
What do I need to do to get the FP-2000 to be able to read/write to the FP-1600?

OK, I answered my own question. I knew that I could read from the FP-1600 via Datasocket reads using the Lookout protocol, but first attempts to write values this way failed. I made some seemingly insignificant changes to my vi, and now I am able to write values as well as read them. It would sure be nice to be able to use the FieldPoint vis to read data only when it changes, but I can live with the datasockets.

  • How can I regain Apple ID/iCloud access when details forgotten?

    Hello,
I recently purchased the iPhone 6, and now have a spare iPhone 5 that I want to give to my sister. I wiped the phone however it needs me to login to the account I activated with to proceed with the initial setup. The problem is, my iPhone 5 was activated with a very old Apple ID of mine, that I no longer have access to. This is because I deleted the email address associated with it, and can't remember the date of birth I had on the account. I do however still remember the password to the account, but the account has been frozen for some reason, therefore I cannot login and cannot recover the account due to the other reasons I've stated. Is there any way of resolving this?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

  • Read/write access on external drive set to none; can't see drive to change

I was learning about profiles and permissions and set the Read/write access on my external drive to none. I wanted to protect my guests from accidentally viewing private files. I thought I was doing it for that profile only, but now I can't see the drive to change it back. I have already tried using the disk utitility and re mounting the drive, but still cannot see the drive icon on the desktop or anywhere. I know the drive is okay because I can see it in disk utility but disk utility says the read/write access is none.
thanks for anyone that can advise me. I'm more of a PC expert, than a Mac expert.

  • Content Management Server-Read/Write Access

If one is migrating to a stand alone Content Management Server, then how does one control the read/write access to this CMS for the employees of an organisation?
Previously, the CMS was SAP Portal Based and hence the read/write access was controlled from the KM Content in the Portal.
Is there anything else to be kept in mind  as pointers when migrating to a stand alone CMS?
Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly helpful.
    Thanks

Glad you found the answer.  But something seems wrong.  FCP should be able to assign the scratch disk to your startup drive.  It's not advisable, but it should be possible.  You might want to try and figure out what's going on before what ever's going on cause other problems.

  • How can I regain access to a MAC account? -- Macbook Pro?

Situation:  My wife has a 13" Mac Book Pro, that we received in May 2011.
OS: Mac OS X Snow Leopard (not sure which version it came with -- 10.6?)
My wife's computer had two administrative accounts.  She uses one regularly, and the other is the 'primary' account for downloading updates and such.
She was unable to figure out how to use Time Machine or any of the other backup software and the like.
Yesterday, she updated to OS X Lion, and found that a number of the programs that she enjoys using no longer function.
She wanted to roll-back to Snow Leopard.  After transferring the majority of the 'must-save' files, she put in the install disk again for snow leopard.  This allowed her to start fresh, however, she wants to regain access to those old accounts.  She tried, but, none of the passwords work anymore.  We know what the passwords are; but, they are not working.
Our ATTEMPTED solution:  She found a site "http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-7339…  This site told her to do something in the boot terminal that allowed her to add a new administrative account.
She tried going into that new admin account and changing the passwords to the other accounts; no joy.  She changes them, but, they are not retained when she logs off or restarts.
How can she regain access to her old files?

Open itunes.  Sign into your account.

  • How do I change the color of font in a fillable form in Adobe Reader? How can I check if the writer of the document has given permission to edit color and not just add text?

How do I change the color of font in a fillable form in Adobe Reader? How can I check if the writer of the document has given permission to edit color and not just add text? Please help! I'm technologically challenged.

Most forms (99% or more) are created for simple text input, where you cannot change anything.
The creator of the form could allow Rich Text input (which allows you to change font, text size, color, etc.), but frankly I have never seen such a form, and I wouldn't know how they look.  But I'm sure they would show some kind of controls to alter the text appearance.

  • How do I resolve this error message? The iPhoto library is on a locked volume.  Reopen iPhoto when you have read/write access, or reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library.

How do I resolve this error message? The iPhoto library is on a locked volume.  Reopen iPhoto when you have read/write access, or reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library.

    Hi j,
I don't know if this will work, but I'd try logging in to an admin account, going to your main library (not user library), opening it, opening Application Support, selecting iPhoto, hold down the command key and press i, click on the lock in the lower left, entering the password and making sure you have Read & Write privileges for System and Admin.

  • How do I allow users to create folders in a shared folder where we all then have read/write access to those new folders?

I have three users who need to access a particular folder on one of our other Macs. The folder resides on the desktop of that particular Mac and it is set as "shared" with all of our accounts set to access the folder. When a user creates a new subfolder in that shared folder, the permissions are instantly set to allow the creator read/write access but the other users are only allowed read-only access. Is there a way to set the permissions so that any new folder created in that shared folder automatically gives read/write access to all accounts who are authorized access to that shared folder?

You should be able to take the permissions you have set and "apply to enclosed items." I am trying to attach a picture of what this looks like so my apologies if it does not work.
Highlight your folder you want and go to File>Get Info or command+I and at the bottom where it has Sharing and Permissions, click the lock button to authenticate. Click the gear and click "apply to enclosed items". See if that works.
