How can I reinstall snow leopard over Lion OS

Ever since I installed Lion OS, my Imac has been absolutely uncontrollable.  Programs opening upon start up that shouldn't open, lock ups, freezing system.  How can I uninstall Lion and reinstall my Snow Leopard?

You have to quit, not just closing open documents, the programs when you shutdown or they will Resume, by default, when you startup.
The feature can be disabled here by unchecking:
And uncheck when shutting down:

    How can I reinstall Snow Leopard?

    Jan,
    You can use the Disk Utility "app" to partition your hard drive so that you can (clean) install Snow Leopard on the new partition. This leaves Mountain Lion intact on one partition. This worked great for me. I was becoming increasingly annoyed, seeing that Mountain Lion ***** due, as another poster said, to its "increasing iOSification".
    With Disk Utility you can name the new partition "Macintosh HD 2". Be sure to use the exact same format as the original (Macintosh HD) partition. You can access all your files/apps on the old (ML) partition from the new (SL) partition, and vice versa.
    However, know this:
    I still have NOT found a way to transfer any my OS X Mail folders from Mountain Lion BACK TO Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion's Mail gives you the false impression you can export your Mail folders to Snow Leopard's Mail, but you cannot. From what I've read here, the newest version of OS X Mail is not compatible with earlier versions. This is a HUGE problem.
    My short list (to date) of crappy Mountain Lion behavior; items marked with a double asterisk (**)represent the worst of Mountain Lion for me.
    ** No up/down arrows in scroll bar slider;
    Expose` not as easy to navigate as in Snow Leopard;
    Mail does not request passwords for either receive or send;
    No "Save Draft" icon in Mail compose window;
    "Save As" selection missing in most app menus;
    No separate Search window in Safari (workaround: use Firefox or Opera);
    ** Can't export Mail from Mountain Lion into Snow Leopard if downgrading;
    iWork 09 seems to have "circled the wagons" re compatibility with MS Office or LibreOffice (workaround: just use Libreoffice);
    I truly regret "upgrading" to Apple's "Vista".

  • Can I install Snow Leopard over Lion to install old software after hard drive crashed?

    My hard drive crashed and I lost everything.  I have a new hard drive, but when the repair shop installed my operating system, they installed Lion and I no longer have my prior updates.  My computer had been updated a few times.  I have a lot of software that only can be installed up to 10.7 such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, Office Mac 2011, etc.  I was wondering if I installed Snow Leopard over Lion, would I lose Lion?  Should I install Snow Leopard and then Lion again?  I don't want to damage my like new computer and I don't want to have to go out and buy all new software.  Is there a solution?  Thanks in advance!

    Sounds complicated!  If I repartition the drive and install Snow Leopard onto the blank volume, will Lion still be there?  Or, will the computer basically have two operating systems that I have to go back and forth from.  Is this something a novice like myself can do?

  • Reinstalling Snow Leopard over Lion?

    Few days back i hve downloaded mac lion "Mac OS X 10.7 (11A511)" from a torrent site.
    But now when i m trying to reinstall snow leopard from the installation CD which i got along with my macbook then intallation does not begins.
    Following error caution appears while intallation "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X."
    Plz tell me how to reinstall snow leopard and plz tell me teps too as it will help me a lot.

    Boot up from your Snow Leopard DVD.  Launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.  Erase your hard drive.  Then reinstall Snow Leopard.  Restore your personal data from backups.  Reinstall your apps from their original install discs, or from fresh downloads from trusted sources.  No more torrent sites for you.

  • How can I virtualize snow leopard in Lion?

    I heard there is a way to run snow leopard alongside lion so i can run my powerpc applications

    The makers of virtualization software do not support Snow Leopard, only Snow Leopard Server.
    But it is possible to bypass this and force an installation of Snow Leopard into a virtual machine on a Lion Mac. I have heard of people who have done this with VirtualBox. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it can be done. You'll have to Google for the methods.
    Just make sure you follow all the licensing terms - only install one copy of Snow Leopard in the VM, make sure you have no other copies of Snow Leopard running simultaneously under the same machine, and make sure you have valid licenses for both Snow Leopard and Lion.
    Don't worry about the numerous claims that you will undoubtedly hear that "Snow Leopard is not licensed to be run under virtualization under Lion." They are myths.

  • I accidentally downloaded lion. I did a timemachine back-up and tried to reload snow leopard. It will not accept. How do I re-install snow leopard over lion?

    I accidently installed lion on my mac book pro. I did a time machine back-up. When i try to re-install snow leopard, it won't take. Any suggestions on how to install snow leopard over lion?

    Accidentally, eh? How, might I ask?
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
    This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
    If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • How can i install snow leopard together with lion, on a Lion based MacBook Pro ultimo 2011

    Hi
    How can I install Snow Leopard on a Lion Based MacBook Pro ultimo 2001. I will both have installed Snow Leopard and Lion on my computer, but how can i do that?
    I have purchaded Snow Leopard, but I can installed it
    Pls can anyone help me
    Best regards and merry christmas
    Robert

    Apple figures that having supported PowerPC code for the last 6 years is enough so they dropped it.
    Why should they have to support some that old forever? It doesn't make good business sense to support some that so few will use.
    If you must play those games, my suggestion is to get an older Mac that will support PowerPC. It is going to be a difficult task to get Snow Leopard to run on a new Mac.

  • How can i redownload snow leopard after reinstalling an old version of leopard from disks

    Hi;
    how can i redownload snow leopard after reinstalling an old version of leopard from disks
    I have a mobileme account and an icloud account

    If you have Leopard installed, you can't download anything to get to Snow Leopard.
    In order to do that you must have a Snow Leopard DVD.

  • Is it possible to reinstall Snow Leopard, removing Lion, without reformatting the hard drive or losing data?

    Since I've installed Lion on my early 2009 model iMac, it runs really slow and sometimes is unresponsive. I'm thinking of reinstalling Snow Leopard, removing Lion, but want to know if anyone has done this and experienced any problems or data loss.

    samberl wrote:
    Reinstalling your OSX is a very simple exercise. I just would not do it from a TM backup.
    He already has Time Machine backups.
    Reformat, reinstall OSX Snow Leopard and then restore your applications, settings and user directories
    You can do most of that, but "complex" 3rd-party applications (typically, ones that came with their own installers) must be reinstalled from the original discs.  See Transferring  Applications for details.
    And don't restore the default Apple apps -- most (or all) of the Lion versions won't work on Snow Leopard.
    Other apps (iLife, iWork, 3rd-party) that were updated or purchased after the Lion installation also may not work on Snow Leoaprd.
    In addition, there will be problems with some Snow Leopard apps that won't work with the different file/folder structure used on Lion.  Mail is one, for sure.
    Much faster than TM machine,
    Should take about the same time as from a clone.
    you should be up and running in an hour or two.
    Depending on how much there is, and especially how many complex apps, that may be rather optimistic.
    Save yourself a bundle by not buying a new iMac.
    Absolutely (although that didn't seem serious).

    How can I install Snow Leopard on my 15" MacBook Pro without using its DVD drive?

    I'm assuming your dvd drive is broken? if you have a thumb drive large enough (8GB or better), you can use another computer to make a bootable image from the install dvd to the thumb drive. then you can install from the the thumb drive.

    Hi.
    You simply can't. Snow Leopard is compiled in Intel binary only.
    Good Luck.

  • How do I reinstall Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Mini Server 2010?

    How do I reinstall Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Mini Server 2010? I have already attached a Mac Superdrive and tried to download, but the buttons at the bottom of the dialog screen are greyed out.

    Not sure where you're getting tangled here or how much you know about OS X Server 10.6, so...
    AFAIK, Snow Leopard Server wasm't available as a download, it was a separate DVD distribution.
    Unlike more recent versions of OS X Server, the 10.6 server distributions were usually standalone DVD disks, as well.
    (There is a slight wrinkle if your Mac needs a newer version of 10.6 than your server distribution; there was a different streaming upgrade process for that.  IIRC, the appropriate OS X client version was installed first, then you booted that client version and loaded the DVD and installed OS X Server.)
    But if you have a Snow Leopard Server distribution that supports your particular Mac Mini model, then boot the DVD, use Disk Utility from the Utilities menu in the bootable DVD environment, wipe the disk, and then install OS X Server.
    You'll need a 10.6 license key, if you don't already have that.
    FWIW, here are the available manuals.

    how can i run snow leopard and leopard in my mac?

    First, your Mac model must be able to run Leopard. Second, you would have to partition your hard drive to create a second volume then install Leopard on the new volume using a Leopard installer DVD.

    How do I upgrade Snow Leopard to Lion? I have installed OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
    I have another machine that already has Lion on it and I want them both to have the same OS version.

    Not the iTunes App Store, but under the Apple
    icon at top left>Appstore, likely only 10.8/Mountain Lion will be found, if you don't want that & want Lion, you have to call Apple & get a key for Lion download.

    Do make a copy of the Installer before running it, like baltwo points out.

  • How do I install Snow Leopard over 10.5.8

    I have just recently acquired a MacBookPro from a friend of mine who's father has passed away. I am able to access the computer without a password but the admin is still set to his father and he doesn't know the password. I have the Snow Leopard OS and want to do a clean install like it came from the factory with no personalization. This is the first time I have owned a MacBookPro so I am unsure how to do a clean install of Snow Leopard over the exiting OS 10.5.8 and if I have to delete that OS first. How do I do that?

    Insert a retail DVD, restart with the C key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install Snow Leopard.
    While the retail DVD can be used to create a fully functional OS, it can’t perform a true factory restore; it won’t install any of the iLife applications.
