How can I reinstall Software Update?

I have a MacBook Pro (early 2008 model) running OS 10.6.8.
When I try to run Software Update, I immediately get an error message that says "Software Update cannot be opened because of a problem.  Check with the developer to make sure Software Update works with this versio of Mac OS X. You may eed to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install ay available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
I have never encountered this error before today, but I can not figure out a way around it now.  I have tried researching the problem, restarting the computer, etc, and can't figure out what to try next.  Can someone please help me figure out how to fix this?  I cannot find a solution anywhere.

  • How can I disable software update in the settings of our company iPad?

Hi, Just need your help guys. How can I disable or hide the software update settings in our company's iPad? Our company don't want to update all the iPad fixed asset to our employee. Thanks.

There are two files that ought to change when you set your preference:
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist"
    "/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.scheduler.plist"
Try moving both of them out of the prefs folder. Then launch System Preferences and reset your preference to whatever you want (or uncheck the box altogether). See if that works. If it it does you will have to also reset your other System Prefs, since all will be returned to the default. If it doesn't do the trick, you can put the originals back and thus avoid the resetting.

  • How can i save software updates to a stick

Please I need help, and before I start I do apologize if this is somewhere else I have searched endlessly but found nothing very helpful. Okay, I am on a very slow dial up, please don't suggest get rid of the dial up -believe me if only I could! Very sore point but dial up is the only option I want to download the software updates and share it with a buddy ( who has dial up as well ) so how can I do this? I did read somewhere when the software screen is open to press the update button, then press download only, which I did for iTunes 9.2. Beauty got it downloaded, only took all night and the opened package and updated it, which worked fine, then I dragged the package on to a stick to put on the other Mac , all seemed to go well, then tried to open iTunes 'big problem' it's gone, I managed to get iTunes back from 'time machine'. Can someone please tell me where I went wrong ? Thankyou in advance

I would think so. In any event if you use SU with the option set to save the files, then they should be on your hard drive. If they are not in the Downloads folder then look for them either in the /Library/ or /Home/Library/ folder in a separate folder that may be named Updates.

  • How can I view software updates?

ML now appears to take me to the App Store app for OS updates, etc.  I don't see an option now that allows me to view the updates I've applied to my machine.  I'm specifically thinking of firmware updates, etc., like the SMC update for the Power Nap.  I can't see that I downloaded it (not via the App Store), and I can't find an option that allows me to see what was installed, and when (sometimes very important to know the when as well).
I've perused System Info, and don't see anything there either.

Please READ THE QUESTION AND DETAILS.
I know Software Update is done via the App Store - the question is - how do I see what's been applied AFTER THE FACT?
I have no "Software Updates Installed" option anymore that I can see to see WHAT was installed, and WHEN.

  • How can you see Software Update compliance breakdown by Client?

I want to see a view in the Software Library that breaks down by client what is shown in the "All Software Updates" node.
Basically, with SCCM 2012 you can see all the software updates and there compliance summary which is nice, however I can't find a way to see a detailed version of this that breaks this all down by client.
For example if I have a Software Update that is Required on 5, Not Required on 3, Installed on 4, and Unknown on 2 clients I want to know which specific clients make up those numbers. I want to know which clients are required, which are not required, which
are already installed and which are unknown.
There doesn't seem to be a view like this in SCCM 2012 and its very odd that it doesn't provide this look into the data.
Am I missing something, can someone point me to the way to see this data quickly.

I am aware of that view however that is just mapping the state number to a name for several different "TopicTypes". And the one you are point to is actually not for Software Updates Scan Status. The TopicType for a Clients Update Scans is 500,
which has 0-3 only. 0 is supposed to be Unknown, 1 not-required, 2 required, and 3 installed.
They set the status for an endpoint/update for 2 and 3 but I have several Unknown, and Not-Required and they don't write those rows to the database if they are in that state.
It seems when they are gathering data from the client the summarize everything, and one keep the specific rows for clients if they are required or installed, and they don't create a row for the other states. From some digging it looks like they stored this
data in 2007, but dropped in in 2012.
Maybe it is to conserve space or something I don't know but its stupid. It would be nice if there was a hidden setting that would enable it to store these rows as the database is set to collect them, they just don't.
    FYI...
For WMI Queries you can use SMS_StateInformation which maps to the v_StateNames.

  • How can I get software update to work on my iMac?

I get message that there are no updates available but I suspect that's incorrect. I'm running 10.4.11, but there must be some updates since this past January that I have not been able to get. What's the issue?

10.4.11 is the final version of the now obsolete Tiger, which is no longer supported by Apple.
There will be no further updates.

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

  • I attempted to install an update to my iTunes and got a "C   Runtime Error" message. Now when I attempt to open iTunes I get a pop up that says to reinstall iTunes. But I can't open iTunes to reinstall it. How can I reinstall iTunes?

I received notification of ANOTHER iTunes update being available, so I attempted to install the update on my Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows Vista. During the update process, two pop-up announced that I had a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" Runtime Error, R6034 and another pop-up that states "iTunes" iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. However, I cannot open iTunes. I get the same pop-up telling me to reinstall iTunes.
I had many songs in my iTunes library that came from sources other than iTunes, mostly my own CDs. Plus, I have nearly $100 credit remaining in the iTunes store. I'm converned I will lose the songs and store credit if I reinstall iTunes. So my questions are:
    1. How can I reinstall iTunes?
    2. If I reinstall it, will I lose my store credit and non-iTunes songs?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Nothing should be lost... However... it is both Prudent and Recommended that a backup should have been created and maintained.

I purchased the multi-user iworks (yes back when it was new, 2009 or 2010 and recently had to replace my white imac's hard drive (but didn't pay to fix the CD drive).  My iworks does not have a serial number on the box and now that my CD drive isn't working how can I reinstall this software?

Buy or borrow an external USB optical drive.
See the confirmation email or covering letter to obtain the serial number. If you have lost it, contact the supplier.

  • I can not perform software updates or download any programs. They appear in the download box as images that are not recognized. How can I fix this?

I can not perform software updates or download any programs. They appear in the download box as images that are "not recognized". I thought maybe my antivirus software was setting up a firewall, but I have disabled it, so that's not the case. Any suggestions as to  how I can fix this?

If the downloads are gone, it's possible that Windows is removing the downloads based on security policies set in IE. I realize that sounds strange, but it's related to Firefox's feature of submitting downloads to your virus scanner and marking them as having come from the internet.
To test this theory, you could try disabling the scan feature. I assume you have good "real time" antivirus protection which checks every file saved to your hard drive. (If not, you really should get that, and you can use Microsoft's free [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials Microsoft Security Essentials] for now until you have time to review all the available choices.)
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''scan''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone''' to toggle its value.
Firefox now should ignore Windows' download security. Does it change how Windows handles the file?
