How can I remove my old phone number from my iPhone?

I want to sell my old iPhone 5 (Sprint), and I want to get everything off of it. Obviously I'd restore it and remove everything first, but how do I get the 'My number' to change from my current phone number (which was ported to T Mobile and is with a newer phone now) to something else/removed? I remember I had the same problem a few years ago with an android phone, and I kept getting texts from my number on it (both phones at the same time), I obviously don't want something like this to happen again, especially if I sell it.

This will reset your iMesasge too.
I've tried all other methods and this is the only way that works.

I have an old iphone 3GS that has been upgraded to IOS5 and I am letting my son use. He is loving the iMessage, however there is one problem - the phone number that used to be associated with that 3GS is still associated with the iMessage settings and so whenever I iMessage my wife at that phone number (or anyone else for that matter), he also gets the message.
I have added in his email in the "You can be reached for messages at:" settings option, but I cannot delete the phone number. Any idea how I can get the phone number removed from the iMessage settings? I want him to be able to send / receive iMessages via his email address - not the phone number that belongs to my wife.
I did try removing the sim from the phone, but that didn't work.

Can someone please help me to remove an iphone telephone number from my imessage application. I no longer have a phone which I registered on my apple ID as a second phone. I have been on my apple ID and it does not seem to be there but cannot remove it from imessage, which still has it as an option to connect to. I am concerned that someone else who inherite this old phone will see my messages if I accidentally enable it again. Sounds like iMessage for your ID was initially activated on her device.

Sign out of iTunes and sign in with the new ID. On your computer, under on of the iTunes menus, on your iPad Settings > iTunes and App Stores and tap on the Apple ID.
Note that all apps downloaded under the previous ID are locked to that ID, and you will have to sign back onto it for any updates.

An account is just a user neame and password with which you purchase content.
You can go to settings and sign out of the account nd inot another. This is covered in the manual.

I haven't had service on my iPhone for over a year now, but a couple days ago I got a text through iMessage from someone thinking I am their friend "Mark". They're texting my old phone number and it is going to their friend Mark's phone (as he now has my old number) but some of them also go to me.
I've tried going to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and the phone number is disabled (greyed out). I can uncheck the emails linked to my account but I am unable to uncheck the phone number.

I tried following the instructions under "How to unlink a phone number" in this Apple support article but the phone number still didn't go away from the iMessage "Send & Receive" list even after I signed out of my Apple ID.
This seems like a bug because why in the world would texts normally still come to my phone sometimes (via iMessage) when someone texts my old phone number if I haven't even paid in over a year.
BTW, when I had service, my carrier was AT&T.

3. Change your current Apple ID password.
4. Switch OFF your iMessage and switch back ON after a few minutes.

Well, Thats was the first time I`ve used Icloud, so I don`t have much experience, and I just active Icloud on my devices and I dont know why all my outlook contacts went to my iphone contacts. Depending how many contacts you started with and where they were from? were they on your sim card before? to remove ALL contact from an iPhone go to iTunes / info un-tick Sync Contacts and change Outlook to another addrss book that has nothing stored in it (ie. empty) sync your phone with that and that will leave your phone with no contacts. Next look for the backup where you had your previous contacts loaded (group) and re sync it to put them back. Chech iTunes when you plug in your phone that it doesn't sync immediately when you plug it in to eliminate future problems.

If you are sure you won't need the old iPhone's backup, you can delete it using iTunes > Preferences > Devices.
