How can I remove my old phone?

I recently got a new Iphone 4 and wonder how I can remove the profile for the 3Gs in Itunes? It still shows up in such things as Find my Iphone and such.

If you are sure you won't need the old iPhone's backup, you can delete it using iTunes > Preferences > Devices.

This will reset your iMesasge too.
I've tried all other methods and this is the only way that works.

I have an old iphone 3GS that has been upgraded to IOS5 and I am letting my son use. He is loving the iMessage, however there is one problem - the phone number that used to be associated with that 3GS is still associated with the iMessage settings and so whenever I iMessage my wife at that phone number (or anyone else for that matter), he also gets the message.
I have added in his email in the "You can be reached for messages at:" settings option, but I cannot delete the phone number. Any idea how I can get the phone number removed from the iMessage settings? I want him to be able to send / receive iMessages via his email address - not the phone number that belongs to my wife.
I did try removing the sim from the phone, but that didn't work.

I want to sell my old iPhone 5 (Sprint), and I want to get everything off of it. Obviously I'd restore it and remove everything first, but how do I get the 'My number' to change from my current phone number (which was ported to T Mobile and is with a newer phone now) to something else/removed? I remember I had the same problem a few years ago with an android phone, and I kept getting texts from my number on it (both phones at the same time), I obviously don't want something like this to happen again, especially if I sell it.

- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

If you have an email account that you want to delete, go to Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>Email Account>Delete account.
If you have on old Apple ID that keeps popping up when you update apps, that old ID will always be tied to those apps and you must continue to use that ID and password when you update those apps.
If you want to completely sign out of that old account, and nothing on your iPad is still tied to it, go to Settings>iTunes & App Stores. Tap on the old ID and sign out. Then sign in with the new one

Sign out of iTunes and sign in with the new ID. On your computer, under on of the iTunes menus, on your iPad Settings > iTunes and App Stores and tap on the Apple ID.
Note that all apps downloaded under the previous ID are locked to that ID, and you will have to sign back onto it for any updates.
