I have recently been on a long trip creating a journal in iPhoto as I go, uploading many gb of photos using the camera connection kit.
I love the way I can view my journal and tap on photos to see them in full screen and maximum quality.
I am now home and need to delete all the photos from my iPad after uploading them to my mac. However when I do this, I can no longer view the photos in my journal in full screen. How can I keep the journal looking as great as it is, without not having to go through and delete only pictures not included in my journal? There are many thousand pics on the iPad now so I need to delete them all...

Add the photos you want to your journal. Then, you delete them from your ipad and they will NOT be deleted from your journal (One of my journals has 1000+ pics of my garden, so I have to delete pics on my 32G ipad). I've been doing this for 5+ months and never had a problem--all my pics stay in my journal--but note, that every once in a while after I delete the photos from my ipad (via camera roll/photostream-I don't unse iPhoto to delete) it takes up to half an hour for the photos to resync (so sometimes it looks like the photos are missing in the journal but they ALWAYS come back). Do a test journal and add a page of photos to it. Then, delete them from your ipad and wait a bit and see what happens. It always works fine for me, but you could do that just to be on the safe side.

Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced - and then re-syncing.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
If you want to remove all of the Photos - uncheck the Sync Photos from Heading
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
If you are using iTunes 11 - this will be helpful, Setting up syncing in Windows.

Sorry but your iPhoto library is not on an iPad or iPod - you may have photos there (most likely low resolution copies) but not an iPhoto library - dying computers (along with software and human errors) are why you always must have a backup - now is the time to load it

I am traveling overseas with only my iPad. I need to upload photos from the iPad to my Galley, but not to any of the existing albums.
I need to create a new album for these photos.
There doesn't seem to be a way to add new albums to my gallery when using the iPad. This limits the iPad's usefulness for me for travel purposes as I shoot a lot of photos and need/want to share as I go along. If so you can connect the iPad to a computer and copy the photos to the computer. After they are on the computer you can sync them to the new iPad.

That's the truth.
I went shopping yesterday and bought a £25 lightning adapter to SD card for my iPad. Today I find out I cannot perform the extremely simplistic task of copying my required photos to my SD card using the adapter ...
Any other tablet or phone would do this.
I now face an uphill struggle to get these photos off of the iPad and onto an SD card before going to the camera shop to get them printed on photo paper. I am due at my terminally ill mothers house in 1hour20mins. It will take me 1 hour to drive to her town. I'm puzzled! I had received a set of jpg files through an e-mail on my ipad. For reasons unknown to me, they got saved to my (only) album, that had an irrelevant name. When I tried to change the name of the album, I received a message that I could only change the name of the album after importing them to the computer where (as I recall) iTunes resided. After much huffing and puffing, I managed to import the photos, to the Windows computer, but they wound up in a Windows Photo Gallery directory, where I put them into an appropriately named album. Now, how do I get them back to the iPad. (I also learned, I think, that iTunes will have nothing to do with the photos.
