How can I reset my router's DNS settings?

I've got a network with a Time Capsule providing an ethernet connection for my desktop, as well as a wireless connection for my wireless devices. From my desktop, I run a website, hosted with a major remote web space provider. What's happened recently is that when I try to upload anything from Dreamweaver to my host, I get a nondescript (no error code) "FTP error." When I try to access my site from any of my browsers on any of the clients on the network, be they ethernet or wireless, I get a "could not connect to server" message. I tried down or just me, as well as a proxy, and they both worked; I narrowed down the problem to a DNS issue on my Time Capsule.
The URL in question is www.theapplenewsreel.com, and the corresponding IP is 216.250.121.1.
I tried running NSLOOKUP from Terminal, and I just got this:
Last login: Sun May 27 11:23:33 on ttys000
my-imac:~ username$ NSLOOKUP www.theapplenewsreel.com
Server:     127.0.0.1
Address:    127.0.0.1#53
Name:   www.theapplenewsreel.com
Address: 192.168.1.111
Basically, the connection, for some reason, stays inside my local network. The rest of the Internet is accessible via all my devices without modifying any settings.
Problem is, I've got no idea how to fix the problem at this point. Can someone help?

The DNS server(s) IP addresses are typically provided to you by your ISP. If you connect a router to the ISP-provided modem, you can change the DNS servers to be used in the router settings and this includes the AirPort routers.
If you have a situation where you have two routers in series, the downstream router would normally be placed in bridge mode. This would disable both its NAT & DHCP services. Since DHCP is used to distribute the DNS server addresses to network clients, the router upstream of the second router. I believe this is what HACKINT0SH is referring two.

How can I reset my Mac to default settings? Or how can I reset it to a prior date? My Mac has a virus and I would like to get rid of it. I would appreciate your help concerning this matter.

To restore it follow these instructions: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac.

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • How can a reset my mac to factory settings.

How can a reset my mac to factory settings.  I have done something wrong and I think at this point it would be better to start form scratch

Restart holding both the Command and R keys.  That will boot the machine to the recovery hard drive, a hidden partition that starts cleanly to the Mac OS X.  You can then choose from the Utiltities drop down, Disk Utility.  From that you can format the hard drive...you will then have to choose to Reinstall Mac OS X...doing this erases the hard drive and you lose all content.  Make a backup on an external hard drive first so you can restore your applications and so you don't lose your data.

just make the system setting like form factory.
Can't have it both ways.  "Refreshing" w/o deleting programs and restoring to factory level are 2 different things.  Also, it depends on which OS system you have.  You did not mention this in any of your postings nor have you included your system info.
You have to decide which do you actually want to do?
Archive & Install (if your OS allows)
Erase the HD (restore to factory level)

  • How can i reset my macbook to original settings?

i am giving my old macbook (2008; running 10.5.8) to my son and am wondering how i can clear out all the information and reset it to factory original.

    Prepare Your Mac for Sale
Boot from the Leopard Installer Disc.  After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.  After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab.  Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Security Options button.  Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button.  Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive.  If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive.  The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive.  After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Now complete the OS X installation.  At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer.  Instead just shut it off.  The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.

  • How can I reset my imac to factory settings without the ilife cd?

I have an iMac that I bought in 2006. I recently purchased a macbook pro for college, so I thought it would be nice to give my old iMac to some family friends. However, I don't want them to have all of my information that's still on the computer. I have already backed up all of the files that I need, so I'm prepared to erase the hard drive. I've been reading online that you need certain things to do so: startup dvds and ilife dvd/cd/whatever. I have the first, but not the second. Is there a way to erase the HD without the ilife? Can I use a newer ilife dvd? Or is there an easier way to do all of this??

Hi Jacob: There is no requirement of the iLife DVD to wipe the computer. If you have the original install DVD, that is all you need.

  • How can i reset factory settings on imac running osx 10.5.8 without setup discs?

Hi, I just got my hands on my first Mac which is second hand and I want to wipe the hard drive clean and start a fresh.
The system I have is a iMac with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running Mac OS X version 10.5.8.
How can I reset this Mac to factory settings as I didn't get the setup discs with the computer?

Phone Apple and order replacements, or if you don't need iLife, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

Unfortunately your iPhone is just a paper weight. Return it to the pawn shop for a refund.
iCloud: Find My iPhone Activation Lock in iOS 7 explains the "Buyer Beware" facts:
When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock. If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
Begin the device setup process. After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in toicloud.com/find. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.
You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.

I went I to my phone and I tried to unlock my passcode but it did not let me in, how can I reset my lock passcode without plugging it onto the computer on iTunes, or restoring it or deleting any data ?

You don't. The only way to remove the passcode if forgotten is to restore the device. LizMaddock,
you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.
