How can i restore display in XP?

I had Boot Camp functioning fine for a while. Then i decided to upgrade my video card from the stock 7300 GT, to the ATI Radeon HD 3870.
I followed the instructions with the card which said to first boot into windows and uninstall the old NVidia display drivers. Then i installed the card and drivers on the Mac side without problems. I put the 7300 GT in slot 3 in case it was required to boot windows.
The ATI instructions said nothing about what to do then. I booted windows and wasn't seeing anything regarding ATI settings. +I then proceeded to make what turned out to be a mistake.+ I inserted the Leopard installation disk and allowed it to install drivers.
Now when booting into windows i get nothing but a black screen. Finally i was able to find a way to contact ATI, who provided me a link to some unsupported beta 3870 drivers.
I can't try them until i can restore some display to windows under Boot Camp.

I was able to boot into safe mode. I removed the NVidia drivers that had been reinstalled by the Leopard install disc, but i didn't see what old ATI stuff there was.
I didn't know any way to get the driver installers from OS X into the windoze partition, so when i restarted the system, i emailed myself the download address at google mail before booting back into windows.
I downloaded the the driver, and Catalyst Control Center installers and ran them. Restarted the system but didn't see any new goodies, or improved performance.
Thanks for the info. I at least saw screen contents again. Now it's just that the 3870's fan runs high all the time and everything is ssllow.
After a lot of piddling around, i found some other ATI junk and ran an uninstaller which removed it. I even restarted the system after removing my old 7300 GT from the other PCI slot. I tried reinstalling the ATI stuff. Nothing.
The ATI stuff is all in the folder: C:\AMD
Trying to run anything in there that looks like an app gives me one of two errors:
1 - {whatever} isn't a valid windows application
2 - {whatever} did not initialize properly. (code 1)
I looked through anything and everything in windoze looking for something to tell this thing about it, or to tell windoze about this stuff. No success.

  • Does not display in iTunes -- How can I restore it?

I have not used my Nano for a while, and I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger since. I just plugged in my Nano and it briefly shows up in iTunes though it gives me a message that it was not properly disconnected and it disappears and in a minute or so it reconnects and disconnects again It keeps doing this.
I want to just restore it, though it does not display in iTunes long enough for me to do so. How can I restore it without being in iTunes?
    Thanks.

You might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

  • How can I restore the background color Firefox 13 used for displaying images?

I preferred the darker background color introduced in Firefox 13 for when images were displayed standalone, as opposed to the glaring white. How can I restore that behavior?

    That should still happen.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • How can I restore to the Browser View of Book, several missing photo's?

Ten photos are missing from the Browser View of the Book. The photos show up in the Photo View and are checked as being used. They also show up in the working screen view of the book. All other photos in the book show up. Why are the 10 missing? How can I restore just those photos and not all photos for that book? What difference would it make in sending that book to the printer?

I'm not sure of your question
Are you saying that when you view the thumbnails of the book at the top or the screen that some pages do not show the photos even though they are in the book below?
If so that is a minor bug in iPhoto '09 - you can ignore it - it is just a display issue -- I forget exactly how but you can force a refresh of the book thumbnails - maybe double clicking on the book page - or maybe on the thumbnail
But in any case your book is fine (you should preview it before sending - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 )

Don't you just love changes in interfaces?
I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

  • How can I restore my e-mail

    Dear all,
I totally reinstalled my Powerbook G4.
Before I backup my mail by copying the content of
    Library -> Mail -> [email protected]@mail.domain.com -> INBOX.mbx -> Messages
After the reinstallation, I opened Mail and I created my accounts.
Then I copyed my backup into the same path of my Mac.
But all pasted Messages (xx.emlx) are not displayed in the Inbox when I reopened Mail.
How can I restore those e-mails?
    Many thank

    Hi Pierrot10,
Insert your backup disc (or plug your external hd), then open Mail.
In the File menu, click *Import Mailboxes* and follow the steps for a *Mail for Mac OS X* transfer.
Navigate to your CD/DVD's or external HD's backup and hit "OK".
This should create a new "Imported" folder in Mail with all your old messages in it, that you can then rearrange as you wish, creating new mailboxes etc.

my mac mini is running very slow all of a sudden, how can i restore it's speed?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the instance of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There is no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window. If you don't see that line within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Partitions(Maybe EFI) is damaged, MBA can't boot up, how can I restore it?

Hello all, my MBA is the 3,2 with 256GB SSD and 4GB RAM. I have dual-boot systems(Mac and Ubuntu) through rEFIt.
Today I try to dd an USB image to one of the Linux partition. I don't know if I entered the wrong partition number, after reboot, everything doesn't work: only a blank white screen displayed there, nothing else.
I try to boot with the USB reinstall driver(shipped with MBA) by pressing C key when power up, but it can't be boot, it remains the blank and white screen.
I try to reset the PRAM and NVRAM, reset the SCM, MBA still can't show the boot menu.
I think the EFI partition is damaged, so how can I restore the EFI, or get my rEFIt work again, or boot into Mac OS X.
Or can you give me some advices? I really hurry to use my Mac. Thanks!

If you have damaged the EFI then you will have to repartition and reformat the drive. You boot from the USB flash drive by restarting the computer and after the chime pressing and holding down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the icon for the USB drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button. Using the "C" key is for starting up from a DVD disc.

  • How can I restore my delete message

this morning I notice one of contact text message was gone, why this happen and how can I restore them

    Hi Soo Fedup,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand you are trying to sync songs off of your iPod shuffle. Once connected to iTunes you should see your iPod listed in iTunes as a device. If you are not seeing the sidebar you can enable it by using the following article.
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Show or hide the Status Bar and Sidebar
In iTunes 11 you have the option to turn the Sidebar and the Status Bar on or off; they are off by default. To do this in the menus, go to:
Show Sidebar - Choose View > Show Sidebar (this feature will display iTunes features on the left side of the application including Library, Store, Shared, Genius, and Playlists).
Show Status Bar - Choose View > Show Status Bar (this feature will conveniently display the number of items and playback time for a category, for example, music or movies).
Once you have the device selected, navigate to the Music pane and either uncheck the box for Sync Music to remove all of the music on your iPod shuffle or select Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres and only check the choices you want. After you uncheck the Sync Music box up top or select the selected content you want, select Apply in the bottom right hand corner. Please use the following article as a reference.

  • In Module, the Basic panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

In Develop Module, the Basic Panel (white balance, color saturation and tonal scale) disappeared.  How can I restore these tools?

When you say the Basic panel has disappeared, do you mean the whole right side panel or individual tools such as the White Balance tool is gone? If it is the whole right side panel that is missing, you may have hidden it. Using the Tab key, you can cycle between hiding and showing the side panels. You can also move your mouse over to the far right side of your screen to get the panel restored but it will disappear when you move your mouse off the panel. There is also a small triangle on the left edge of the right panel that you can right click on in order to determine the show/hide behavior (I personally use the manual mode).
Regarding the individual windows contained in the left/right panels, they can be opened and closed by clicking of the triangle that is displayed next to name of the tool in its header bar. While you can elect what modules will be shown on the LR Top panel, I am not aware of any mechanism to completely hide individual tools in the left/right panels. If all else failes, you can hit the Shift/Tab key combo a few times to restore all of your windows the the default behavior.

The usual choices for the Workspace Layout are missing. How can I restore them? The usual choices for the Workspace Layout are missing. How can I restore them?

The Insert panel has been reworked pretty significantly in DWCC (Spry has been dead for over a year now, so it no longer appears for instance), but can still be opened via Window > Insert then dragged to the toolbar location (to get the tabs back) by clicking and dragging the Insert tab up to the top of the application frame until it highlights. Once you drop it, it will then appear as a toolbar.
Not all of the tools will be visible at all times. DWCC knows when certain things can't technically be used and it won't display them if they can't be inserted.
EDIT: Oops, forgot to add this. Here is a link talking about what has changed in the Insert panel: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/using/changes-insert-options-creative-cloud.html
