How can i restore files after i've emptied the trash bin?
I accidently deleted some photos and also emptied the trash bin. I also haven't backed up my computer in a while. (unfortunately).
Is there any way I can restore the photos?
You'll have to stop using the boot volume so you don't write to it and create and boot from a external boot drive, then install Data Rescue on that to run against the internal drive to recover files.
If you write to the boot drive, even surfing the web does that, you can overwrite your deleted data.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
If that is too much for you, you can use the local PC/Mac software repair shops, they do data recovery in the hundreds of dollars range.
The "four figures" data recovery is really only needed if the drive is mechanically dead and it has to be dissected.

How can I create hard disk space without emptying the Trash?
I moved everything in my Pictures folder into Trash, not realising the folder also had the iPhoto library.
So now all my photos have gone from iPhoto, though they are still in the Trash folder, which has not been emptied.
I have attempted to restore in two ways:
1) Through Time Machine (which has most but not all of the iPhoto library backed up, and
2) By dragging the iPhoto library from Trash into Pictures.
In both cases the restore action fails because during the process I get the message that the start up disk is running out of space.
One way to create space would be to empty the Trash, but I can't do that because I would lose the photos not backed up on Time Machine.
I was not aware of any space problems previously, so I wonder if something I have done in this process has filled up my hard disk? But in any case, the immediate problem remains - how to create space (which will hopefully allow me to restore the photo library), without clearing out the Trash folder.
Thanks for reading this, and any advice will be much appreciated. The following comments are really off topic because unfortunately they come too late to help you in your particular case. They may even amount to venting.
The way iPhoto hides your photos in packages that are not readily accessible in the Finder—because you have to Control-Click and open the package to show its contents first—is the main reason I immediately delete iPhoto from my hard drive whenever it gets installed by an OS installation or upgrade. I hate the "Libraries" paradigm in Apple's Apperture and in Adobe's Lightroom.
I much prefer the Adobe Bridge paradigm which is totally transparent and instantly reflected in the Finder, just as any changes you make in the Finder is instantly reflected in Bridge.
After years of trying, I've given up trying to find somene's ear at Apple to let them know how unacceptable iPhoto is (on so many levels).
Similarly, I have disabled Time Machine on my Leopard boot drive, preferring to rely on SuperDuper, although my main working boot drive is a Tiger volume. Because of their intrusiveness, I've also permanently disabled Spotblight and the Dashboard on all my OS installs.

So basically I made an application called TrashEmptier with apple script and what it does is it asks you if you want to empty the trash so you press ok and it empties the trash and then lets the computer go to sleep but it does it even if there isn't anything in the trash but how can i make it so if that they're isn't anything in the trash then it wont try to empty it and go to sleep by the way this app was made with apple script editor.
adamThis is a perfect example of why background apps aren't allowed: Imaging your user forgot that they'd set this running in your application, and then discovered that their battery was running flat in no time, because your application is constantly opening network connections.
Sorry to say that your application design is flawed if you were expecting to be able to run in the background. It's all spelt out clear as day in the iPhone OS programming guide though, so you can't say you weren't warned. -
HT4859 how can i restore files from backup after i reset my ipod touch?
I rebooted my ipod touch how can i restore my back up files
Welcome to the Apple community.
Rebooting your device is not the same as restoring it, to restore a device go to settings > general > reset > erase all contents and settings. Once you do this you will then be given the option to restore it from a backup or as a new iPod. -

I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.2. I have sent a work file to the trash bin along with many other files. When I empty the trash this one particular file remains and I get a message that this file is still in use. I have tried returning the file to my documents, opening it, closing it and then sending it to trash and again I try to empty trash but the same message comes up - Q - How can I trash this file permanently?
First just try logging out and back in. Whatever is holding on to it may not be running after the logout thus freeing it so you can trash it after logging back in.
You might also try Trash It!
Lastly, look at the following for suggestions:

I am trying to open space in my macbook hard drive, so I deleted files and after emptying the trash bin the amount of Gigs didn't increase, why? Where can I go and delete those files?
Did you do a secure empty trash? SHIFT COMMAND DELETE, they will be over wriiten. Are you deleting docs as they aren't much space, videos, pictures, music use much more space.
You can move those fiels to an external "archive" drive to save them then delete them from your internal drive. -
I inadvertently deleted Firefox and emptied the trash bin. I believe it was version 3.5. I have a MAC OSX 10.4.11. After several futile attemps how can I re-install the latest version of Firefox compatible to my MAC system? Thanks!
As of Firefox 4.0 and newer the Firefox builds from Mozilla requires both Mac OSX 10.'''5'''+ and a Intel.
Either you can use 3.6.19 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Though for you 3.6.18 will be safe also as 3.6.19 was to workaround a font crashing issue on 10.7 Lion that was not fixed in time on Lion before release. http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.18/mac/ and pick your language and download the Firefox 3.6.18.dmg -

Then the window the progress bar appears ... processing for a second then disappears almost instantly and the bin remains full.Trash – Empty When File is Locked or in Use
Try holding down the option button while trying to delete the Trash. If that doesn’t work, here is some more information.

I deleted the picture in iphoto, then emptied my iphoto trash, but the picture is still showing on my computer when i go into my trash under “all images” How do you delete pictures even when you empty the trash and they stay in the computer?
Wtih iPhoto 9 when the iPhoto Trash is emptied the files get moved to the Trash bin in the Dock as a second chance to change your mind. Look in the Dock's Trash bin.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove your Yahoo cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
This will open a dialog where you can remove the individual cookies.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does it work any better? -
