How can I restore files in trash?

Since I installed OS X Mavericks, my trash because it appears just like in the picture and it is impossible to me to select any file and restore it.
I can empty the trash without problems.
What can I do ? Backup of the last time machine and loose some files or can I do anything else?
Thanks a lot

If you want a different presentation, GetInfo on the Trash and use the Finder's View Options to change it to your liking.

    Hi,
    Try Target Disk Mode

    There is also Migration Assistant.

  • !How can I restore files from my trash back to "All Documents"!

How can I restore my files in the trash bin back to where I got them? "Places/All Documents"?

Even trying that isn't an option! I've honestly tried every way that I can think of!

  • How can I return files in Trash, more than 1 at a time? I can place many files into Trash at a time.

I placed many unix.exe files into Trash, more than one at a time. I recently updated 'QuickTime' and the Mac version of 'SilverLight"
(name might be totally 'correct). I don't know if removing these files can impede my iMac 2008 running OS 10.6.8(updated SnowLeopard).
I know I can 'return' one file from Trash at a time. When I try to return more than one ('mouse click' and 'drag'
over 2 or more files, the'return' option isn't listed. Is there a way I can either 'return all' or return more than one file
    at a time?

Only one at a time. But where are they from? Did you delete system files or are these Windows files (.exe is a Windows extension?)

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Rebooting your device is not the same as restoring it, to restore a device go to settings > general > reset > erase all contents and settings. Once you do this you will then be given the option to restore it from a backup or as a new iPod.

  • How can I restore my deleted trash (files)

I accidentally deleted my trash while trying to move files from trash to my documents. Is there anyway I can restore or recover these files??

    *File Recovery*
General reading on this topic - [http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/datarecovery.html]
Easiest method: If you dragged these to the trash did you empty the trash? If not simply double click on it to open it and drag the file out again.
Next easiest method: Copy the file off a backup drive.
File recovery software: Try using an application such as [Data Rescue 3|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [FileSalvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. Both have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive as a destination drive for recovered files.
It is critical that you do not use the computer or even turn it on until you have rescued your files. Files only have the directory reference to them removed when you empty the trash or otherwise delete them from a computer (unless you use secure erase, in which case they are gone forever or can only be potentially be recovered by very expensive means) and are still present on the computer. However, their space is marked as available to any other file creation done on the computer (even done by you booting the computer) and there is risk that your files will be overwritten by the computer.
There is also this free tool which supposedly runs on OSX and does recovery of popular media and Office files. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download I have not run it and have no idea about its functionality. It is a command line program and so is not as user friendly as Mac users might wish. [http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/27683/testdisk]

I need to restore all the files on a failed hard drive—upwards of a terabyte of data. How can I instruct Time Machine to copy the files to a new external hard drive? Thanks!

Hold down the option key and select

from the Time Machine menu in the menu bar. The menu icon looks like a clock running backwards. If you don't have that menu, open the Time Machine preference pane and check the box marked

  • How can I restore files from a time machine back-up of my iMac to an EXTERNAL hard drive connected to MacBook Pro. Using Migrat

I would like to restore files from a time machine back-up of my iMac to an EXTERNAL hard drive connected to MacBook Pro. When I tried using Migration Assistant it only gives me my internal hard drive as an option to restore to. The internal hard drive on my macbook isnt large enough to store the files.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X can only restore data to the drive where Time Machine backed up files from.
If you want to restore files from the Time Machine backup onto an external drive, your only option is to access to the Time Machine drive manually (open a Finder window and choose your Time Machine drive in the Finder sidebar), navigate through its folders and copy the files you want to the external drive

  • How can i restore files after i've emptied the trash bin?

I accidently deleted some photos and also emptied the trash bin. I also haven't backed up my computer in a while. (unfortunately).
Is there any way I can restore the photos?

You'll have to stop using the boot volume so you don't write to it and create and boot from a external boot drive, then install Data Rescue on that to run against the internal drive to recover files.
If you write to the boot drive, even surfing the web does that, you can overwrite your deleted data.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
If that is too much for you, you can use the local PC/Mac software repair shops, they do data recovery in the hundreds of dollars range.
The "four figures" data recovery is really only needed if the drive is mechanically dead and it has to be dissected.

  • How can I restore files from empty trash?

Please someone help me! I deleted my IPHOTO LIBRARY by mistake, and then I pressed " empty trash". Is it even possible for me to recover deleted itens from the trash? I live in Brazil and the closest Apple Store is 5 hours from home. I am not that comfortable with any support companies trying to fix my computer and I can't set up Time Machine alone.
    Any tips?

I have heard of it, I know nothig about it, Data Rescue is the one I see recommended the most. I had to use Data Rescue once many years ago on a family members machine and recovered quite a bit, but it was a purchased version.
Try the Wondershare and see if it finds anything (what have you got to lose? as of now you have already lost data) I would try the trial version and see if it recovers anything before thinking about buying the full package. If it does not recover anything then I would not buy it. Maybe then you might try the Data Rescue 3 trial and seee if that recovers anything.
As for Time Machine back up, you REALLY want to have that on an external drive. You can partition your internal drive for a Time Machine back up, but what happens if the internal drive crashes,? Then you have nothing. With an external Time Machine drive you can replace the broken drive and then restore the data.
I have 2 back ups 1 Time Machine, and 1 Carbon Copy Clone (the CCC can be booted from, so if my internal drive goes down, I can still start up from the clone. Drives are fairly inexpensive these days, data can be pricless.
It is not a question of if my drive will crash, it is a question of when, all drives will fail at some point.
By the way, your english is quite good.
I hope this helps and you get your photos back, I would be very sad if I lost all of mine.
    Best of luck

  • How can I restore files from /User/ohthatchris/Library ?

I've been having a bit of a saga with Time Machine, and I think I'm almost there but I need a tip or two.
I run TM on a Time Capsule, and have for some time.
I wanted to do some renovation when I updated my air to Mountain Lion, as follows:
    Final BU with TM.
Copy of known important files to BU disk (Documents, Applications, etc)
Wipe HD and clean install of Mountain Lion.
Renamed computer (had the messy defaunt name Christophers-MacBook_Air...) and created (the only) user account with different name. These changes were for greater compatibility with my employer's network.
I then restored my important files and applications, and I was pleased that I've free'd up lots of space and I'm running well.
Restarted TM, and noticed that the sparsebundle was renamed with the new computer name, and the other name was not visible.
After a little while I noticed that I needed a few files from my old system, specifically my Chrome bookmarks and some recent notes from Notational Velocity. I knew these were in the old TM files, so I proceeded as follows:
created an account with the same name as my old, pre-Mountain Lion account.
In System Preferences > sharing I renamed the computer as before (Christophers-MacBook...).
Entered TM and there were my old backups! This looked great and I felt like I was home free, but no...
The files I need are in the /User/othatchris/Library/Application Support/.. directories. I can see the new ones in the terminal, but my backups in the TM finder-like window don't include the Library directory. Can I force it to be displayed? Is there some way to interact with the TM backups through the terminal?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Chris

  • How can I restore files that were accidentally deleted from iCloud drive?

I was making space to upgrade my iPad to the latest iOS 8 update, and while in settings>storage I mistakenly deleted Keynote presentations from iCloud rather than deleting Keynote and presentations temporarily from just the iPad itself. I'm desperate to get these back, but Time Machine is of no use when searching iCloud drive for previous files. Can anyone help??

What did you do exactly? How did you delete the calendar?

  • How can I restore files stored in folders outside of a home directory

I recently replaced the hard drive on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.3.  After I had re-installed the OS and created a dummy account, I used my time machine backups to restore all profiles on the machine.  This brought most but not all data I had on the machine.  While this is not something that will occur often I would like to avoid this problem in the future.  I had installed Mysql and I had one instance with data stored within.  After I had restored all of my profiles, I could not start the database instance.  I was forced to re-install the application, recreate the database instance, and re-insert the data.
I had made sure that I had backed up my data a couple of days before I replaced the drive so I thought I was save to proceed.  I have looked at the time machine preferences and there is no place for me to specify what directories to include in the backups only what to exclude.  This leads me to believe that the data in question was backedup.  I just was unable to restore it.  After I had it all working again, I was able to figure out that the data was located at "/usr/local/mysql/data/instace_name".
As I said before, this problem was generated when I replaced the hard drive.  I replaced it with an SSD.  For that reason, I know that I will go through this problem at a later date.  I just want to be proactive and plan for the failure of the SSD.
    Thank you
    Javier Salazar

I don't see why transferring the user account using Transfer Assistant at the time of the installation, would not have brought the information across.  It could be that making a "dummy account" has led to having a different user account number from the original account, with consequential access problems.  It is a problem met when using Migration Assistant after the initial install.

  • How to restore files from Trash

    Hi all,
Somehow there does not seem to be a "restore button" in my trash. I can copy my files manually from the trash to another folder, but I will have to remember which folder that was. How can I restore the file to it's original location automatically?
I could swear that the restore button was once there. Or am I confusing OS X with XP?
    Thanks for your help.
    Kind regards, Hans.

If you press COMMAND-Z (Undo) immediately after placing a file into the Trash, then the file will be returned to its original location. However, the undo function is only applicable to the item most immediately placed in the Trash, otherwise it will not work, nor will it work for items placed there previously. In effect it's a one-time deal.
There are some third-party utilities that may add more to the undo Trash functionality, and you can look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Don't you just love changes in interfaces?
I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.
