How can i Revert to Mountain Lion?

Hi all, i'm running Mavericks and have no issues or complaints, but, just for an exercize and to be ready just in case; is a correct approach to format Macintosh hd and then reinstall let say Mountain Lion or Lion from a time machine backup? And eventually, in a second time, reinstall Mavericks from time machine again?
This questions may appear obvious, but i have read a quite long thread intended to revert  from Mavericks back and i wander why not to use the simplest way. There are some drawbacks?
P.S. I guess that the procedure described was intended to preserve data which could be created meanwhile after a certain time of Mavericks usage. Correct?
Thanks, Gianfranco

What version of OS X was first installed on your computer from the factory? Do you have a full system Time Machine backup of your Mountain Lion installation?
Procedurally, you must repartition the drive to permit a new Recovery HD to be installed. Then install Mountain Lion. You will need an installer for Mountain Lion. If you don't have one, but Mountain Lion or Lion was pre-installed on your computer, then you can do an Internet Recovery that will install the version of OS X originally installed on the computer.
If Snow Leopard was pre-installed then simply boot from the Snow Leopard installer DVD, repartition the drive, then install Snow Leopard. From there you can install Mountain Lion if you have the Mountain Lion installer application.

What, specifically, is your Mac model?
MacBook Pro, but need the year it was released, processor speed, etc. This will determine if it *can* be upgraded further.

  • I have a Power Book SW version 10.5.8. How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

    Hello,
I have a Power Book SW version 10.5.8. How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion?  I need to be able to download some graphics apps from the Mac store and I do not have that capability with 10.5.8.
I am American but live in Italy so have missed an update or two.  When I went to the Mac store in the States this summer they told me if I could work well with this outdated version, to leave as is as I had missed two updates. Now I need to I need to be able to download some graphics apps from the Mac store and I do not have that capability with 10.5.8.  I need at least 6.6.0 it says.
    Thank you,

Make sure your machine supports Snow Leopard requirements. The same with Mountain Lion if you want to move even further up the animal kingdom.

You'll have to purchase, install and update Snow Leopard from the Apple Store to get the App Store application.
Mountain Lion is only sold via the App Store.

  • I have a mac book 10.6.8 that has been upgraded to Snow Leopard (latest version.) How can I upgrade to mountain lion with 1GB of memory? When I go to buy it, it says that it's not compatible with my Mac but my Mac has all of the qualifications.

If anyone has any idea I'd really appreciate it. I just bought the iphone 5 and recieved the new nano as a birthday gift and now I'm up a creek without a paddle b/c I can't plug them into my laptop without the new itunes that runs on Mountain Lion.
Please help, I'm not very tech savvy.

You don't need anything higher than OSX 10.6.8 to run iTunes 11.  iTunes system requirements - http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You can't upgrade without more RAM.

  • How does one revert to Mountain Lion from Mavericks?

I got a new iMac a week and a half ago. It was running Mtn Lion, with i73.5, 8gb ram. I upped the memory to 16gb and installed Mavericks.
Now I have some issues that others are experiencing with Photoshop: some keyboard shortcuts not working, strange cursor behavior. There are some other things, just within my computer's behavior, that I'm not sure aren't related to Mavericks, as well, but since I've never worked on a Mac before last week, I just don't know.
The problems seem to be fixed, as reported by others over in Adobe forums, by reverting to Mountain Lion, and waiting for bug fixes in Mavericks.
I am new to the Mac world so I'd appreciate some detailed advice on the best way to do that.
    Thanks for your help.

You should be calling AppleCare regarding problems with a new Mac. Telephone support is free for the first 90 days of ownership.
Various Adobe apps have had problems with Mavericks. Apple can't fix Adobe's problems. Consult Adobe for support options.

  • Mountain lion has murdered my response time.  iPhoto, Safari, iTunes are all S.L.O.W.  How can I revert back to Lion?

Since I installed Mountain Lion, all of my apps are running extremely slowly.  iPhoto is the worst, Safari is second worst, followed closely by iTunes.  Yesterday I waited a full 3 minutes for iPhoto to update one picture.  This morning almost a minute for Safari to come up.  Nothing wrong with my internet, my work PC is very fast.
I want to go back to before I installed Mountain Lion.  Is this possible???

all of my apps are running extremely slowly.
How much free space on the startup disk? Better to troubleshoot than try reverting to Lion.
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select Storage from the menu.
Make sure there's never less than 15% available space.
Not enough free space can slow the drive down.

  • How can I install osx mountain lion on one specific account on my laptop?

You see, in our laptop, we have 2 accounts. My account and my sister's. I really want to install mountain lion on my computer on the laptop but my sister doesnt want that on her account. How can I install mountain lion on my account only?

    You can't.
Mountain Lion is the operating system of the computer - it isn't in the accounts, the accounts are in it.
The only way to achieve something like what you describe would be to parition the computer into two seperate drives and install a different operating system on each partition.  That would also mean that changing accounts would require rebooting the computer and changing the startup partition / operating system / account.  Which is unlikely to be what you want.
I think you and sister need to come to an agreement about which OS to use, be it ML or something earlier.  What are her reasons for not wanting to switch?  Perhaps you can convince her.

  • Guys! can anyone tell me how can i download OX mountain lion for my mac?

I need to download Mac OX mountain lion 10.8 for my friend. Can anyone share how can i download it and from where ..???

The purchase of Mountain Lion is not an "all you share license". The person who buys ML on their App Store account can install it on as many Macs as they own. No one else's.
It's only $20. Have your friend buy their own copy.

  • How can I get a Mountain Lion physical media?

    Hi All!
I've only got very restrictive PAYG 3G internet at home so downloading 4.5GB of Mountain Lion is going to cost way more than the upgrade itself! Does anyone know how to order physical media from Apple? Failing that is there a way I can download from someone elses machine not through the app store and then burn so I can take home?
    Cheers!

Physical Media? No can do. You can burn it to DVD after downloading, otherwise you are sol as it is only available via download. You can of course hook into a friend or family's WiFi and download it using your Apple ID to log in to the App Store, or use their Mac to download it, again using your personal Apple ID in case you ever need to download it again.

  • How can I get my Mountain Lion more stable on the internet? It keeps losing the signal. Lion is solid as a rock on my other Macbook using the same router.

I downloaded Mountain Lion on my Macbook Air, and it works without a hitch except for internet connectivity. It keeps losing the signal. My Macbook using the same connection is solid as a rock and never loses the connection. Is there something I can do? Since my Macbook works weell under exactly the same conditions and if memory serves so did my Macbook Air with Lion before I downloaded Mountain Lion, none of the usual fixes seem to apply.
    Applehank

I have the same problem, I think.  I dont lose wifi signal, the mba stays connected to the router the whole time.   Pings also seem unaffected by this problem.  The problem is that web pages seem to load intermittently, in other words, it loads a page in 2 minutes.  It loads:
the first 25% in the first 5 seconds
the next 25% in the next 50 seconds
the next 25% in the next 5 seconds
the last 25% in the last 50 seconds
Its quite annoying considering this can be as simple a page as goolge search results or even google.com.
I thought it was my ISP and i even made a big racket about it, switched ISPs and I have the same problem.
With the previous ISP I had a cisco router.  This new ISP supplied their own modem/wifi.  That doesnt seem to be the problem.
Im thinking its a config issue on my mba.  I have the latest updates to ML.
    Any ideas?
