How can I revive my Ibook, it´s black?

I´m desperate! I am traveling with my Ibook. It is an OSX Panther with a 40 GIG H.D. RAM is 600 MB (or is it MHz..I´m not a techie) I rely on the machine to store images, work with graphic programs, etc., and make CDs.
I just arrived in Quito, Ecuador.
Today,I tried to start it from full shut down. I got the opening music and the desktop almost opened, but then it started to show streaks of horizontal lines on the right side of the screen. Then the streaks stopped and the whole screen went to cycling pixels.....lots of rectangular shapes cycling up thru the screen.
I turned it off with the off/on button and pressed the button again to try starting it. The music came on but the screen stayed black. I turned it off again and on again a few times. Each time I turned it on the music came on but the screen stayed black.
If anybody has any hints I would be forever in their debt. I do not know what HARD RESET is or how to do it. Likewise with PMU RESET.
About a year ago, I had a problem with the machine when I was in Buenos Aires. The shop in BA discovered that the Logic Board had quit. This was a weakness for the model I have and the BA shop sent it back to MAC. MAC fixed it under parts warranty and the machine has been fine ever since.
Thanks for any suggestions, Tim

Thanks Jakob. yesterday, I pressed down on the left hand rest, as i started the computer, and I got a screen. Not my desktop. just a grey screen with a folder icon in the middle. The icon slowly disappeared and the screen went streaky.
I purchased the ibook two years ago. I hope they are still replacing the logic boards. I will check out the support sight you recommended.
I must say, I am very fond of the ibook but RELIABILITY is #1 for me. I can`t afford to have a computer that fails.
I`ll be looking for a replacement laptop soon. I am fond of Apple but they don`t make sense traveling. There is very little support in S. America.

    How can I get the iBook app on my Mac to backup ePubs I created with Pages on my iPad? Only seems to want to work with purchased books from the ibook store. The problem is, once I create a document in Pages and turn it into an ePub to be opened in iBooks, I delete the document in Pages, because I don't need two copies taking up space on my iPad. Before Maverick, iTunes would backup everything in my iBook app on my iPad. If something ever happened to my iPad, all of my created ePubs would be lost and I would be screwed. I suppose I could keep everything on Pages and go to iCloud and download my documents to my Mac, but that is a lot of steps. I may have to do that if there is no other way, but I am hoping someone will have the answer for me. Pretty disappointed in iBooks app for Mac at this point.

    iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

  • How can i open my iBook on my Mac, not just on my iPhone

    Hi,
    how can i open my iBook on my Mac, not just on my iPhone?  I ask this questions in hopes that I can eventually find a way to have the iPhone read a non "Enhanced" iBook to me.
    I used the Accessibility reader for a brief time but it's very persinickety.  Move the phone a tiny bit and it threw me out from page 70 and back to page 48.  Changing pages when you are in Accessibility is excruciating. Now, I cannot get back there at all.
    I downloaded 2 apps that claim they can read to me but the closest I can get in the instructions says I need to open the iBook from my Mac computer with my iPhone connected and then I will be able to open the iBook in the app called "Read text to me".  Only when I go to open the book on my Mac it says "This book can’t be viewed using this computer. You can view this book using iBooks on your iOS device."
    Thank god, I only have a brain tumor and am not yet completely blind.
    I've been to the Apple store twice, checked out a youtube page with all it's comments and I am still nowhere, over the course of a week.
    Can anybody help me?
    thank you,
    Ellen

    You cannot.
    Ibooks are only for iphone/ipod touch/ipad
    So, there are no third party readers/emulators in Mac OS X and Windows to read them from iTunes? I don't even own an iOS device. I just redeemed Action Comics' Superman #1 from Starbucks and iTunes.
    This one?
    Where the REQUIREMENTS spell out that an iOS device is needed to read it?

    How can I send an iBook to a friend?

    The only way to share iBooks that you have purchased is via Family Sharing, which is not what I think you are aiming for:
    Family Sharing - Apple Support
    You can "Gift" a book by going to the iBooks store, selecting the book, and in the dropdown next to the price, you can select to Gift it to someone.
    To the best of my knowledge, these are the only two options.

    If you mean print from a book - You can't directly. You can select an excert and then select Share from the options bar that pops up. Email the excerpt to yourself and then print it from the email in the mail app.
    You can print a PDF by tapping on the action icon - the arrow icon at the top - and then selecting print from the resulting window.

    The device was synced to icloud some time ago. The Laptop PC I normally use with the device is not with me now and is being formatted for a different reason.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

    How can I unlock my iphone with a black screen to back up to itunes?

    Reset the phone:  Press both the home and on/off buttons for AT LEAST 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.  (No data loss)
    If no response, connect to AC adaptor, charge for at least 30 minutes and repeat the reset if needed
    If still no response, there is a hardware failure that needs evaluation by Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your country.

    I Have a Kyocera FS-C2026MFP printer/scanner. How can I only pint the document in Black. I cannot work out how to not print in colour to save the inks!!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and do not speak for "Apple Inc." or "Kyocera Inc."
    http://usa.kyoceradocumentsolutions.com/americas/jsp/upload/resource/25359/0/Mac Driver3SoftwareGuide1.1.pdf
    On the printer driver documentation, Page 5, in the Imaging setting, although the options are not specifically shown, there should be an option on that screen of the print driver to click and select "B/W" or 'black and white' or 'grayscale' or 'monochrome' as Print Mode rather than the "Full Color" option shown in the illustration below.
    You access these settings once you have selected 'Print' from an app.
    If necessary, you might need to click on the 'Down arrow' button next to the printer name (OS X 10.6), or 'Show Details' button at the bottom of the print dialog box (OS X 10.8) to see additional settings.

  • HT5557 I have ibooks on my ipad that were downloaded under an old itunes account that is no longer active.  How can I download these ibooks on other devices?

    ibooks were downloaded onto my husband's ipad under a different itunes account (a @me account that is no longer active or accessible).  he subsequently used our family itunes account.  The ibooks he originally bought that are on his ipad I cannot access and I would like to be able to download these onto my ipad to read.
    How can I access these books on my ipad?

    Your best bet may be to try and connect that ipad to your itunes and go to file-devices-transfer purchases, and then see if you can add them to your device.  I doubt this will work however as they have DRM that will tell you they dont belong to the account you're using.
    It is likely you'll need to try and use the account they were purchased with to redownload them.

  • How can I upgrade my iBook G4?

    I have an old iBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.2.8 ... what do I need to download to bring it the most current I can? And how can I upgrade to the latest OS version (whatever it is)?
    I would prefer to download as many of the free updates as I can, before I begin buying a bunch of upgrade packs. I tried to do system updates in the system preferences, but it keeps closing on me saying the program "unexpectedly quit". So I can't seem to upgrade anything that way.
    Also, I do NOT have the original system disk, but I do have the admin password.
    What do I need to do to bring this laptop current - or at least as current as this machine can be?

    Hi rsottney!
    "So do I need to get 10.3 upgrade before I get 10.4, or can I just go straight from .2 to .4?"
    Not if your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements.
    "I tried to do system updates in the system preferences, but it keeps closing on me saying the program "unexpectedly quit"."
    You must resolve this issue before upgrading to a newer version of OS X.
    Upgrading a problematic system, will only compound the situation.
    "...I do NOT have the original system disk,..."
    Without those discs, correcting the problem could be difficult.
    But you could try running FSCK, as instructed in this KB Article ...perform disk maintenance with ... fsck.
    Also navigate to HD Users > The Admin Account > Library > Preferences:
    In there, locate the file com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, and move it to the Trash.
    Run Repair Permissions.
    TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
    1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
    3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
    Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.2.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
    When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
    If you purchase a set of install discs, for a newer version of OS X, you could also perform an Erase & Install of the new system.
    But if you do not have a backup, you will lose all data.
    Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
    Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.10 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
    Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
    Panther, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
    If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can also be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, etc.
    Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
    Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
    The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

    Also check to see if your Mac model, is listed in this KB Article OS X Must Be Installed On First -8GB Partition.
    Once Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
    If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, you could also consider installing that, and then use the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
    Review these Apple documents for Panther System Requirements,
    and Additional Panther System Requirements.
    Additionally, Tiger 10.4.x ships on a DVD, so if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.
    Info here Installing Tiger Without A DVD Drive.
    The Tiger Media Exchange Program, referred to in that article, is no longer available.
