How can i run a linux command in java app?

i created a cell script to run the compile process of my C++ simulator and want to control it thru java application, i tried the following but it doesn't work.
the command in linux should be. under the path /home/workspace/SIM/ run: . / zs_compile
and i use runtime to do this
String path="home/workspace/SIM/ . /zs_compile";
try {Runtime.getRuntime().exec(path);}
catch( IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace() ;
Error report is java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: home/workspace/SIM/ . /zs_compile : not found
who can help me to find the reason, thanks a lot!!!!!

the reason is that the command you're truing to execute can't be found. se this article for other traps relatd to runtime.exec:
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
the command in linux should be. under the path /home/workspace/SIM/ run: . / zs_compilecould yu elaborate a bit? "should be . under the path" -- do you mean it should be sourced from that path? Sourcing a script file makes no sense from a Java program.

    But How can I see both programs printout

    ??First of all, you're not even calling the Happy Holiday one. If you want it to do something, you have to invoke it.
    And by the way, in your comments, you mention that in one case, a new process is created. Actually, new processes are created each time you call Runtime.exec.
    Anyway, if you want the output from the processes, you read it using getInputStream from the Process class. In fact, you really should read that stream anyway (read that URL I sent you to find out why).
    If you want to print that output to the screen, then do so as you'd print anything to the screen.
    in notepad HelloWorld.java, I can see it is opened,
    but in Java, not.I have no idea what you're saying here. It's not relevant whether a source code file is opened in Notepad, when running a program.

  • How can I run a dos command from java on windows 98, 95?

    The usage of cmd.exe in the java program to run a dos command on windows 98. 95 doesn't work as the equivalent command is command.exe
    But using the command.exe in the java program makes my program to hang.

    hi,
    As u mentioned, u cannot use the cmd.exe in win9x environment as cmd.exe is specific to windows NT, you can use the command.exe without any hitches.
    for eg
    java.lang.Runtime.getRuntime().exec("start command /K a.bat"); should run the batch file a.bat..
    if the problem persists, try posting the snippet of code that you are using.

  • How to execute Linux command from Java app.

    Hi all,
    Could anyone show me how to execute Linux command from Java app. For example, I have the need to execute the "ls" command from my Java app (which is running on the Linux machine), how should I write the codes?
    Thanks a lot,

    You can use "built-in" shell commands, you just need to invoke the shell and tell it to run the command. See the -c switch in the man page for your shell. But, "ls" isn't built-in anyays.
    If you use exec, you will want to set the directory with the dir argument to exec, or add it to the command or cmdarray. See the API for the variants of java.lang.Runtime.exec(). (If you're invoking it repeatedly, you can most likely modify a cmdarray more efficiently than having exec() decompose your command).
    You will also definitely want to save the returned Process and read the output from it (possibly stderr too and get an exit status). See API for java.lang.Process. Here's an example
    java.io.BufferedReader br =
    new java.io.BufferedReader(new java.io.InputStreamReader(
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec ("/sbin/ifconfig ppp0").
    getInputStream()));
    while ((s = br.readLine()) != null) {...

  • How can i run an OS command in a stored procedure?

    Hi, I'm creating a stored procedure in which I need to copy a file from one directory to another.
    I know that in Forms, this can be done with the "host" function, but it doesn't work in the stored procedure.
    I read something in a forum about using the DBMS_SCHEDULER, with a sentence like this:
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_PROGRAM('OS_Command', 'EXECUTABLE', v_command, 0, TRUE );
    where v_command is a string containing the cp command I need to execute.
    Would this be correct? And would this sentence be enough for the command to be executed instantly?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Please help How can i run Os commands thru Java programs

    Hey,
    I want to stop and restart the linux server thru java program.Is it possible to run the os commands thru java program.
    I had it thru Runtime.getRuntime().exec("*.exe");
    it only runs the exe files.How can run files other than exe files like .bat,com ans shell commands..Any body knows please help with the code..or mail to this address
    [email protected]
    thankyou,
    regards,
    j.mouli

    What about "start command.com /C execute.bat", or using the overload that takes a String[] as argument?
    What if you use the the full path of execute.bat?
    What error code do you get?
    And what comes th linux, I'm not sure... you'll need a shell interpreter there too, me thinks. (never had to run anything with runtime.exec on linux). Check the man pages if csh, bash, ksh, or what ever shell you like.

    I'd like to ask: How can I run that on a Linux?
    Thanks for reading and paying attention.

    This sounds like a question for the linux distribution forum that you're using.  The .exe is a stand alone executable, if you can run win32 binaries then you should be able to run this.

  • How Can I run a .vbs (Visual Basic Script) file on Linux?

    Hello, I have a doubt:
    How Can I execute on Linux a .vbs file? I can't use wine cause it is not a .exe file.
    Is there any way?
    Greetings

    Mikko777 wrote:http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/visual-ba … linux.html learn to use google
    Google works, yes ... if you know what you are searching for. Try this search: VisualBasic is not VBScript.
    Here is what you will need (consult an attorney first):
    - Wine
    - Windows Scripting Host (WSH) 5.6* (available officially from MS website, but requires validation):
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta … laylang=en
    * There is an update to 5.7 also available form MS
    - You will also need (from your Windows installation):
    mfc42.dll
    - Once you have the files placed in your Wine '/system32' folder (via installer or extraction), you will need to register dll files. At minimum, I think you can get by with:
    wine regsvr32 /path/to/vbscript.dll
    wine regsvr32 /path/to/wshext.dll
    Others may be required ... if you get more messages alerting you to register files, just repeat for each one necessary. Or register them all and be done with it.
    Once you have WSH setup, you can launch the VBScript file by opening 'winefile' and double clicking on the script. From the command line, you will need to launch it with 'wscript':
    wine wscript "Z:\\home\\user\\.wine\\dosdevices\\c:\\Program Files\\test.vbs"
    If you attempt to launch the VBScript with just:
    wine "Z:\\home\\user\\.wine\\dosdevices\\c:\\Program Files\\test.vbs"
    you will get a message about 'BAD EXE Format' or similar.

  • How can I run the report for different input values at the same time?

    Reports version: Report Builder 6.0.8.13.1
    Oracle version: Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0
    I want to run the same report for different input parameter values and spool each o/p to different file and ftp to a server. For this, as a first step, I am spooling different input values in to a file, reading those values through a loop and calling the report for that input values. Each report run/execution is taking 15 minutes. Total report execution is taking approximately 4 hours (assuming 16 different input values) to complete. So I have to wait 4 hours to see ALL outputs.
    I would like to run the report parallel for ALL the input values and I should be able to see the ALL outputs with in 15 or 16 minutes.
    In my shell script, I added & symbol at the end of the report call to start/run the job in the background. Due to this the control passed to the next step after the report call. At this place I have an ftp command to send the output file to a different server and it is giving error some thing like “o/p file is not available/created yet". This is due to the fact that report writer is NOT yet completely started/initiated or it is NOT completed the spooling.
    How can I run the report at the same time for all the input values and save the time?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kishore.

    Increase the number of server engines running right now it seems there is only one engine running ,increase it to 4 or 6
    and then atleast 4 or 6 reports will run simultaneously.
    For FTPing the output add to your sript to check whether it is locked and if not then only try to ftp .
    Also for more better functionality read the document (chapter 15 ) for 10g reports for its new fuinctionality.

    Hi all,

    How can I run it by shell command?
    PS: "java -cp . file" doesn't work it launch->
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: File2/File (wrong name: File2/File)
    Thanks in advance.

    Just to understand: is File2 ar jar archive or not? If it is a jar archive, have you tried open File2.jar? If File2 is a directory within the current directory, have you tried java -cp . File2/File? I just tested with a set of classes and it works... Let me be precise:
    * Let us imagine you are working in a directory whole path is PathToDir/
    * in this directory you have the classes put in a directory called File2
    * in order to launch File.class then you would have to invoke :
    cd PathToDir/ (just to be sure)
    java -cp . File2/File
    *if you were to do the following then you would have the problem you describe
    cd PathToDir/File2/
    java -cp . File

    If it's the latter then you need to make the jar file including a manifest.
    The manifest can be just a txt file with its content to be something like this:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Ant-Version: Apache Ant 1.7.1
    Created-By: Somebody
    Main-Class: NameOfTheMainClass
    Class-Path:
    X-COMMENT: Main-Class will be added automatically by buildTo make the jar file including the manifest, use something like this in your command prompt (of course you must have compiled your java file(s) first):
    jar cfm test.jar MANIFEST.txt NameOfTheMainClass.classAfter that you'd be able to run your application just by double clicking it.
    If you're a NetBeans user, you can build your standalone application by right-clicking your project and then going to properties => run => and choosing a Main class. After that right click on that project and "Clean and Build", locate the jar file in the "dist" folder and double click it =]
    Hope it helps,
