How can I run Classic on my new Imac 10.4.7?

I've recently had to buy a new computer which is fantastic, however all my work (I work as a freelance designer) runs on classic and I cant open any of them. Is there something I can download that will open classic for me? Is it possible to download OS 9 to run on my Imac?

Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
If your iMac is a brand new one, it has an Intel processor. None of the Intel processor Macs are supported by Apple for Classic, which is why it is not included as an installable item from the original disk set that came with the machine.
There is a 3rd-party emulator program, SheepShaver, which is designed to work with OS 9.0.4 or earlier in order to provide OS 9/Classic capability on Intel-based machines. It may or may not work for your purposes.

Hi all! My grandfather recently purchased a 27 inch iMac running 10.8.2. His previous computer, another mac running 10.5, has thousands of Freehand drawings on it. (Freehand is PPC only) My grandfather wants to be able to use Freehand to edit these drawings on his new computer. To run Freehand, I tried installing Leopard as a dual booted operating system, but to no avail. I also tried using VirtualBox to install Leopard. (I got the Leopard install DVD and made an .iso file). All of my attempts at this ended in a kernel panic on the virtual computer. (I bought an external Asus DVD drive to copy the DVD and to attempt to boot using the DVD. The drive gets finicky when I try to boot the computer using it. Just FYI) If anyone has a way to run Freehand on a new Mac, it would be greatly appreciated.

With all due respect to Mende, who works hard on this forum to post important information, he has it mostly wrong on this one: Doh!
Your solution is indeed to install Snow Leopard Server into Parallels or VMWare Fusion.
However, instead of paying $169 at Amazon as Mende suggests, the Apple Store now offers it (at least in the USA) for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping. Telephone sales only: 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753). Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A.
He also repeats the common Urban Myth that Snow Leopard client may not be virtualized in Lion or Mt. Lion on a Mac; but that misinformation is now mostly a footnote in history, due to Apple's 95% reduction in the price of SLS (they used to sell it for $499+ when it was previously available from the Apple Store):

As with all PowerPC software that requires Rosetta, CS2 will not run on your new iMac and must again be used in virtualized Snow Leopard Server, as is Freehand MX.

You need to install the software if that is not what you did. If you do not have the installation disks, you can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.

How can i get idvd for my new iMac?

Just got a new imac and went through the process of creating a home video and when it got to open idvd section it couldnt find it.
I called apple and was told they are no longer including it in ilife. Great. Can I buy the ilfe 11, or do I need to find an old copy? It seems like on some of the sites I have looked up idvd is not included in ilfe11 and some say's it is. I don't feel like the hassle of having to return it if its not included.
Also, is there a way to download it somewhere for free??? I wish I would have known because I did see a good deal on the previous version but figured I would pay a little more for the brand new model. I think this is an important little detail apple salespoeple should mention. After all, apple has made a pretty good name for itself in film editing. (although I realize if I had final cut studio it would include idvd) what about us novices? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem, but I do have the key and is not working anyway.
My old pc was running on windows 7 and my new one is an apple running on Lion.
My phone is an Iphone IV and I can see all the bookmarks there.
In order to sync, what I did was click on the "I don't have the device with me", I entered the key that was provided and the process finish ok. It says congratulations, etc, etc.
But the bookmarks are not there, I tried merging data and replacing data on this computer options but is the same.
Any suggestions?

If it's the same machine (same CPU) there should not be any need to activate. The actiovation is tied to your CPU.

How can I run the report for different input values at the same time?

Reports version: Report Builder 6.0.8.13.1
Oracle version: Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.0.0
I want to run the same report for different input parameter values and spool each o/p to different file and ftp to a server. For this, as a first step, I am spooling different input values in to a file, reading those values through a loop and calling the report for that input values. Each report run/execution is taking 15 minutes. Total report execution is taking approximately 4 hours (assuming 16 different input values) to complete. So I have to wait 4 hours to see ALL outputs.
I would like to run the report parallel for ALL the input values and I should be able to see the ALL outputs with in 15 or 16 minutes.
In my shell script, I added & symbol at the end of the report call to start/run the job in the background. Due to this the control passed to the next step after the report call. At this place I have an ftp command to send the output file to a different server and it is giving error some thing like o/p file is not available/created yet". This is due to the fact that report writer is NOT yet completely started/initiated or it is NOT completed the spooling.
How can I run the report at the same time for all the input values and save the time?

Increase the number of server engines running right now it seems there is only one engine running ,increase it to 4 or 6
and then atleast 4 or 6 reports will run simultaneously.
For FTPing the output add to your sript to check whether it is locked and if not then only try to ftp .
Also for more better functionality read the document (chapter 15 ) for 10g reports for its new fuinctionality.

I have on my network several router 1700 series and switches Catalyst 2950 and I want to know how can I run ethereal on those babies to monitore what comes and goes

The two most common methods would be (the old way) insert a hub (not a switch) in-line between the devices withthe traffic you wish to monitor or (the new way, for Cisco anyway) using port mirrroring.
A hub (not a switch) will repeat every pulse that passes on the line to the analyzer.
Since finding a new hub these days is virtually impossible (even some of the things sold as hubs are really switches), the more common way, at least in Cisco environments, is to "SPAN" (aka Port Mirroring) the port of the device whose traffic you'd like to monitor.

Hi everyone.. i had a funny problem. Microsoft removed from registry and system the vm and i got the problem of java.dll and the registry problem when compiling.
How did i resolve that?
too easy:
1. go to the registry and search the key "JavaSoft"
2. add a Key with the name "Java Runtime Environment"
3. select the new key and add a alfa-numeric Value with the name "CurrentVersion"
4. set the value c:\jdk1.4 //the place of your jdk-version
5. insert a new Key with the name "1.4"
6. go to the new key and add an alfanumeric value with the name "JavaHome" and put the value c:\jdk1.4\jre\lib
do this where you find the key Javasoft (in my registry was twice)
i did it and got no problems

??First of all, you're not even calling the Happy Holiday one. If you want it to do something, you have to invoke it.
And by the way, in your comments, you mention that in one case, a new process is created. Actually, new processes are created each time you call Runtime.exec.
Anyway, if you want the output from the processes, you read it using getInputStream from the Process class. In fact, you really should read that stream anyway (read that URL I sent you to find out why).
If you want to print that output to the screen, then do so as you'd print anything to the screen.
in notepad HelloWorld.java, I can see it is opened,
but in Java, not.I have no idea what you're saying here. It's not relevant whether a source code file is opened in Notepad, when running a program.
