How can I run Windows on my Mac?

I want to place games on my computer. However, some of the games I want to play are not compatible with my Mac and I want to know how to run Windows on my Mac.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Intel Mac comes with Boot Camp, that allows you to install Windows into your Mac. See > http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
Go to this website, look for your Mac model under "Boot Camp requirements by Mac model" and choose one Windows version.
Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to install Windows. Follow Apple's steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

go to your applications folder - then go to your utilites folder and click on bootcamp assistant and follow instructions - make sure you have blank dvd handy since it will download drivers for windows then burn in your dvd.

On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7pm bootcamp without an optical drive.  I watch lots of football on sop cast and other such windows based programmes but can't work out how to do it.

Actually Windows can be installed and booted from an external drive if the drive is connected eSATA (external SATA), since the drive is treated as if it's an internal HDD. I used the same method previously to dual-boot from 2 different HDD instead of partitioning.
Most PC motherboards come with them as standard so it's pretty much plug and play but I don't recall seeing a recent Mac with eSATA connectivity though, so that might not be an option for you.

Use the Boot Camp Assistant in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to return the drive to a single partition setup. If you were running Windows from a disk image, delete that image.

  • How do you run Windows on a Mac?

I have had a Dual Core MacBook Pro since last July, but I have never run Windows on it. Could someone here please explain to me how I can run Windows on my Mac, how to switch between Windows and Mac OSX, and if Windows Vista is able to be run on a Mac. Or, at least point me in an article already posted on this subject. Thank you!

  • Why can you run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows

I dont understant why you can run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows.  Any help.  I would purchase OS X Mountain Lion if you gave me a way.

Microsoft builds software to run on other companies' hardware, pretty much exclusively if you don't count the long line of failed devices: Zune, Windows phone, and now the Surface.
Apple builds hardware. They support that hardware with their own operating system. It is designed to run only on their very tightly integrated hardware. Trying to write software for the plethora of crap being sold would be a failing proposition and would divert resources away from the great software they provide for their hardware customers.
The hardware and software are very well engineered to provide the best possible experience.
If you want to experience a Mac, buy a Mac.

    Yes,
You can run Windows and a few programs at the same time as OS X in a window if your willing to take a performance penalty, no heavy duty 3D games or heavy CPU needs.

  • How to best run windows on my mac and what version?

I want to run windows on my mac by partitioning part of an external hard drive.  What version of windows should I license, use parralels or fusion, and any other recommendations?

There are two ways to run Windows on an Apple computer.
    1. Use Bootcamp Assistant to create a Bootcamp partition then install Windows on the Bootcamp partition. http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/. Use Windows 7. Windows in a Bootcamp partition will not boot nor run from an external drive. You must use the first internal drive.
    2. Use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox and install Windows as the guest operating syste. See the virtual machine sites for instructions. Use whichever version of Windows you want.

  • How can i run windows programs on my mac?

i have a version of photoshop for windows, and i was wondering if it is possible to run that on my iMac. is there something i need to download?

    You have several options:
    1. Download and install Apple's Boot Camp which enables you to boot the computer either into Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or OS X. This is a dual-boot solution.
    2. Purchase Parallels Desktop for Mac (www.parallels.com) which is virtualization software and enables you to run Windows (any version) simultaneously with OS X in a separate window.
    3. Purchase CodeWeavers' CrossOver (www.codeweavers.com) which enables you to run many Windows' applications without having to install Windows.
All the above require you have an Intel Mac with at least 1 GB of installed RAM.

  • How do I run Windows explorer on mac

I need to run Windows 7 for some applications. How do I do this?

I vote VMWare Fusion for your needs, Kevin.
I've got a 2.4MHz Macbook 7.1 & I've been using Fusion to run Windows 7 Ultimate for quite a while now. I've got Win7 all updated, it shares my Macbook's network connection just like it had its very own, shares Mac folders so that those Mac folders (or even the entire Mac file structure, if I wanted to) are accessible inside Win7, & I can Copy [Cmnd-C] & Paste [Cmnd-V] info back & forth between the two OS's by just Cmnd-Tab switching back & forth between the two. Nearly seamless integration between the two.
My Windows 7 actually works better & more problem-free on my Mac, in fact, than any Windows I've ever had running on any PC machine. Believe it or not. Just as fast too, if not faster. And I don't think I have EVER seen one of those mean nasty little Windows popup messages with text and a "So whatya wanna do, bucko?" question in 'em that only a Redmond software engineer could understand.
    A couple of caveats though......
Hard drive space: Lots of it. Not knowing how much it'd take, I initially set the space my Win7 would take up on my Mac at 60GB, though Windows 7 itself is now taking up only 37GBs inside that initial 60GB allotment. I haven't yet discovered how to make that allotment size smaller, to 40GBs for example, without maybe messing something up, & I don't have the harddrive space to duplicate the 60GB file as backup. Gotta break out my external drives I guess.
And in addition to the 60Gigs of static, unchangeable space it takes up on my Mac's SSD, it uses another quarter Gig or so of my SSD's free space for its virtual memory requirements (see the Activity Monitor screenshot below).
RAM: Lots & lots of that, too. Right around 2.25GBs of Real RAM Memory it uses. I outfitted my Macbook with 8GBs though, so running Win7 along with 6 to 10 other Mac apps, including Photoshop, is usually not a problem. Close with that many other apps, but usually not a problem.
If VMWare Fusion looks like a good way to you for you to get Windows 7 running on your Mac (personally, I think it's SO cool), I'd use Craigslist to find a good deal on a copy of Fusion, Kevin.
Here's a Google hitlist showing a nationwide Craigslist search result for people selling VMWare Fusion disks last month & this month. Looks like $25 or so bucks is all it'd take, on average:
site:craigslist.org mac OR macintosh AND "vmware fusion" AND "intext:2012-09" OR "intext:2012-10" -macbook
    Happy Mac'in, Kevin!

  • How do i run windows programs on mac

How do i run a windows program on my mac? Is there a particular application for it? or do i need to download and install a virtual windows software? - if so, can anyone suggest any names for software. I've heard about virtual box.

Why ask here instead of the ones for Macbook series, or for Windows on Mac, aka Boot Camp.
VirtualBos is just the VM free for running Windows as guest OS under Mac OS, and then why exclude what or type program? Maybe game that needs to run natively, or that your notebook would have troubke with disk spa e, RAM, or your processor.
Windows runs hotter, too, so that is another concern.
    Mire Q's than answers.

  • Can i run windows on my mac book?

I am trying to avoid having to buy a new computer.  i need to acess my works server and they run windows.  i need access to microsoft outlook, xcel, and accubid. anyone have any advice?

VirtualBox is just one solution, in the "virtualization" category. With virtualization, you continue to run OS X and its programs, and Windows runs like another application as a "virtualized" PC. This is nice because you can use Windows and Mac programs at the same time. Ars Technica just did a review of Parallels and Fusion, two other non-free applications you can use other than VirtualBox which people use for more serious work. You should read that review because it will give you good background on how people run Windows on Macs under virtualization. I use VirtualBox and Parallels, on different Macs.
The other way to run Windows is to create a separate partition on your disk, load Windows on it, and reboot the entire Mac into Windows. Apple allows this through Boot Camp software. This basically turns the entire computer into a Windows PC, which is best for compatibility, performance, and resource use, but you can't run Mac programs while you're using Windows in Boot Camp.

  • How can i run Windows on a macbook Pro

    Hello
I am close to a business decission to use in future a MACBook Pro with Retsina Display
For Business reasons i have to be able to run also Winodws in a Virtual machine as some company internal applications need Windows
Which program would i use here on the newest MAC-OS
I want to use for private the MAC-OS and run Windows in a virtual environment to avoid Dual boot
Is the winodws Machine from Network, Printer drivers and all other transparent to the network?
bluetooth and other ports transparent supported in Windows?
any restrictions you may know on such environment
What versions of Windows are supported in such a virtuell environment?
Can i run Outllook from Microsoft in MAC-OS ?
Thanks very much for the answers

I second jopilkie's recommendation for Parallels. I've been using Parallels for years - currently using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with MS Office 2013, a ton of Adobe apps, etc. I use it primarily for Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe LiveCycle Designer and a few other apps that aren't available for OS X.
The answer is 'yes' to most of your questions - your network, printing, scanning, Bluetooth, DVD drive(s), external and internal hard drives, etc. can be accessed both in the Windows environment as well as OS X. And you can run Outlook either in on the Mac side or on the Windows side (personally, I signed up for Office 365 - $100 a year and you can install Office on up to 5 machines) - I use Outlook 2013 on the Windows side for three of my email accounts and Outlook 2011 on the Mac side for an additional 3 email accounts: it's nice to keep things separate that way!
I would recommend running Windows 7 - 64-bit, but whichever 'flavor' you prefer. Personally, Pro works just fine for my needs.
But beware Office 2013 on the Windows side - it really takes some familiarity until you become accustomed to it! Too much like Windows 8, but I'm getting used to it...
Call back if you've other questions.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How can i run Pear on my Mac Server?

    Hello
i need urgent help to run Pear on my Mac Server. I am building up a local Enviroment for Magento and need Pear running.
Would be very happy if somebody can help me out.
    Many Thanks!

    Welcome to the forums.
First, please ensure you have a current and complete backup of your disks and your data. If you should make a mistake or if the installation should tip over and scribble on something, then that backup (or a reinstallation) is your best and easiest path back to an operational system.
As for your question around loading PEAR/PECL tools onto 10.6 Snow Leopard, Google finds [this|http://clickontyler.com/blog/2008/01/how-to-install-pear-in-mac-os-x-leop ard> and [this|http://stackoverflow.com/questions/628838/how-to-set-up-pear-on-mac-os-x- 10-5-leopard] and [this|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2602597&tstart=105], and one or more of these postings might get you going here.
(One other thing that's happened with Snow Leopard and Snow Leopard Server was the upgrade to php 5.3 and more recently to 5.3.3. Based on various postings, PEAR tends to toss deprecated errors because of this; php is newer than the code. This might have been fixed in a newer PEAR.)
The other piece you'll need to load is mcrypt. [Here is a recent thread on Magento and php and mcrypt|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2722257].
There are various related discussions of installing Magento on Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server over in the Magento forums, as well.
