How can i save a copy of all my files (docs, emails, media, contacts, etc) on an external drive before i sell it?

I am running snow leapard and my macbook and recently got a new macbook pro with mountain lion. i had to do a manual migration because migration assistance corrupted the new MBP (even though on the MB there were no problems after running disc utility). After my manual migration, some files were not transferred to the new MBP, especially some of my emails.
i plan to sell the MB, so i want to be sure i have a complete backup of my MB files on the external drive that i can then search with my new MBP w/Mountain Lion. Any suggestion? My understanding is that Time Machine would not work since we are talking about different operating systems. Thanks!

I would use a program like SuperDuper! to copy your MacBook hard drive to the external hard drive. SuperDuper! is free for whole disk copies (there is a nominal fee if you want more backup options).
I would then use DIsk Utility to do a secure erase to your MacBook hard drive by writing zero's to it, to ensure there is no personal data on it. You can reload the operating system and any other programs and sell it in 'like new' condition.

I just purchased a new iPod 80Gb... I hope to transfer all my music and audiobooks from computers, HDD's and CD's to it. That is about 30-40Gb. Unfortunately I discovered I can not do this without iTunes or other 3rd party software and ADDITIONAL COPY of ALL FILES on computer!!! I wand to have files on my iPod and backup on DVD's... That is all. I can always play music from my iPod if I need.
Can someone help me how can I do it? How to have Just ONE copy of all my music and ONLY on iPOD in the way to be able to edit, add, delete, etc. the contents?

You can't load the iPod without putting the music into iTunes first however once the iPod is loaded you can change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" and delete the songs from the computer. Your iPod will not sync with iTunes in this mode, you can get details here: Managing content manually on iPod
For safe keeping I suggest you keep a backup of all your music on an external drive. Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

Thanks Alex, but sadly I already tried that. Neither .docx or .xlsx files show up in the content list. They both show as a Chrome HTML document so changing how Firefox addresses those doesn't help since it thinks its the same type of file. I don't think I can manually add files into the "Content Type" left side nav.

It is simply too painful to have to zip everything up into a single file to send. MHT format has been available for years now from IE, and with every new FF release it's the first thing I look for. I have been using FF for years, and hate having to come out of it, over into IE |(which I even took out of startup) and key everything in again, in order to send somebody something in a convenient format that they can open with a single click.
I can't believe this hasn't been asked before, so have you looked at it and rejected it? Have MS kept the file format secret?

This is not really an answer just my comments on your question.
I am sure I recollect efforts being made to get mhtml to work with FF.
Probably the important thing to remember about .mhtml is that if other browsers do support it they may need addons, and may not necessarily render the content correctly/consistently.
There are FF addons designed for archiving webpages, you could try them, but that then assumes the recipient has the same software.
You could simply save the page from FF to your XP pc; then offline open it with and save it using IE, before then emailing using FF, and attaching the .mht or mhtml file that you have now created on your PC.
As an alternative method, in some cases it could be worth considering taking a screen grab of the required page, then sending that to the recipient as a single email attatchment using either a bitmap or jpeg file format for instance.
Something such as an airline booking may be designed with a print option, possibly it could be worthwile looking at sending the print file itself as an email attachment.

Save the attachment in a folder.
From the Organizer menu choose:
File >> Get Photos & Videos >> From Files & Folders
Navigate to your image and click Open.
If the photo is embedded, make a copy or screen grab and then whilst it’s still held in memory open the Elements Editor.
From the menu click:
File >> New >> Image from clipboard
Then use File >> Save As
Then choose jpeg.

It sounds like the iPod's storage has data corruption. You may be able to treat it like an external drive and use data recovery software on it, but it probably won't work because the system is telling you that the drive needs to be formatted before it is recognized.
If the problem is data corruption and there is no hardware-related problem on the iPod's hard drive, a Restore should fix the problem. But this will obviously erase the iPod's hard drive.

iTunes, along with Quick Time, iCloud, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support and Apple Application Support can all be removed from your PC by uninstalling them using 'Uninstall or change a program' in Control Panel. The only obvious thing that will be left behind is your iTunes library which remains untouched. If you want to remove that as well it's just a question of deleting it.

Sometimes a simple "Save As" will reduce the file size slightly, but probably not enough to pass the <8 mb threshold of your recipient, as you need.
You've probably seen it, try the next option in the Save As menu, "Reduced Size PDF," and make it compatible with the latest version possible, again considering the recipient. This suggestion assumes Acrobat X. You don't say which version you're using, but this tool was available at least going back to Version 8, but in a different place, you'll have to hunt.
If all that doesn't work, you could remove some images from the source document, which also will reduce the overall size.

I see I can copy them to my pasteboard, which I guess I can save the big wall of text version of my shortcuts to a text file... Could I then change the File extension of that to something? Something that can be opened into flash in the future somehow? ".kys" didn't do anything, it linked to premiere...

I see that I can sync my shortcuts with my adobe ID, and I have synced... but where does that go, and can I get a copy.... And is there even a way to go drop off that copy into the Flash directory?

i need some help. I'm working on a project for students an th university. We have to devellop a programm for LEDs measurement so that all the measure data must be save in de same file. We have develloped the programm, but we have a big problem to save the measure in the same File.
When we do the first measure , the file must be created and the fisrt data gonna be save in this file that is correct
When wie do the second measure, the third .... measure, the programm ask us to comfirm the file or where we want save our data
We need some help, to know how we can change or devellop this programm so that, for the first measure , the file must be created and the fisrt data gonna be save in this file, the second measure the same file must be chose and from the third and more the measure data must be automatically save in this file without the programm ask to chose or to confirme a file?
