You can't save your iTunes films and/or TV programmes in the cloud, whether they will show in the cloud for redownloading in the Purchased tab in the iTunes app depends upon what country that you are in (they can't be redownloaded in all countries) and whether they remain in your country's store (rights-holders occasionally remove their items).
You can copy your iTunes downloads to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases so that you can take a backup copy of them, and not have to rely on being able to redownload them from the store.

Maybe it is a silly question but I did download videos using "Save as -->archive" and of course when the video on the site was deleted, I had nothing.
That saved the web page, but that doesn't contain the actual video. That is sent by the server when needed.
I guess it's the same with video download ?
Another reason I ask is if it is so simple to just use Quick Time and it's free and it copy even without asking (all I have to do is watch) why so many ads for "capture videos ?"
Web sites often disable QuickTime's Save function, so you often need other ways to save video.

iTunes just ***** at converting videos. So far all videos I tried converting with iTunes have resulted in the same error you got.
You're better-off using 3rd party apps, and then copying to iTunes, and then copying to the iPod.
Unfortunately I don't know of any conversion programs for Windows.

When converting with handbrake, make sure to use the iPod preset for the out-put video.

This is what I ended up doing. I put the FLVPlayback inside a movieclip and put this on the first frame:

on the frame that the video plays on I have the video and a close button (which is a movieclip) and I put the following script:

close_btn.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, seekCount);
close_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, closeBtnUp);
function seekCount(e:Event):void
     vidTime=htMeasVid.playheadTime;
function closeBtnUp(e:MouseEvent):void
    e.currentTarget.parent.play();
on the following frame I have this code:
close_btn.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, seekCount);

and then on the last frame I have this:
gotoAndStop(2);
so that it doesn't reset the vidTime variable to 0.

Do a Time Machine backup to an external drive. It backs up everything.
Instead of restoring from time machine backup, go into time machine and drag out the things you want to restore.

Yes, to restore an iCloud backup you have to start by completely erasing your phone so you would need to save any recent data that is not contained in the backup before doing so. You could, for example, import any recent photos/videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
To restore an iCloud backup, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts. I have keep iTunes media folder checked as well as copy files to iTunes media folder checked. This will copy all purchase to the drive and organize movies and TV shows into their own folders by show and season #.
Then sync your iPad and in iTunes on your computer, click File/Transfer purchases and iTunes will do t he rest.

I've got a video I'd like people to be able to navigate away from in my project, but resume where it left off if they come back to it. I would think I could do this by just saving its current position when they exit that frame as a variable and then using .seek() to go back to that spot if/when they return.
The only problem is that I can't find any script to capture the current position. I tried .time, but it gives me an error.

It's worth emphasizing that despite Apple's confusing advertising, iCloud has nothing to do with iTunes purchases. Items you have purchased from iTunes can be downloaded again to other devices; and iTunes Match enables you (at a charge) to upload music you didn't purchase from the Store. An iCloud account is not required for all this; iCloud does not provide general file storage but is intended for syncing data between your devices.

Somebody just mentioned this to me.
Also, working in video requires a great deal of storage. Ideally you want the libraries – and the media – to be on a drive other than your system drive. And then there are backups, which are a major priority. So at the minimum, it makes sense to get a big external HDD and partition it so that one is for media and the other is for Time Machine.
