How can I save web pages in .txt format?

I often want to save information I find online so I can look at it later. When I open the 'file; save as' box, it offers me four options, one of which is text files. but no matter which option I choose, it always saves as a web page. I just want the basic text, in .txt format. How can I get it to do this?

You should see the option for ''' "Text Files" ''' when going to save a web page, in addition to Web Page, complete and Web Page, HTML only - but that is probably going to have a lot more than just the pure text of that web page.
This should work better, but you might miss some of what appears to be "text" when viewing the web page. <br />
{Ctrl + A} to highlight the entire web page, then {Ctrl + C} to copy everything that is highlighted to the Clipboard. Then Paste the contents of the Clipboard into a Text Editor program, then use {Ctrl + S} to bring up the Save As... dialog. Name that file and make sure you include '''.txt'''.

how can I save a page and all its component parts in a single file, like IE does as an MHT?
It's much easier for mailing to people where page address not available?? (as in output from an airline booking site, for example)
It is simply too painful to have to zip everything up into a single file to send. MHT format has been available for years now from IE, and with every new FF release it's the first thing I look for. I have been using FF for years, and hate having to come out of it, over into IE |(which I even took out of startup) and key everything in again, in order to send somebody something in a convenient format that they can open with a single click.
I can't believe this hasn't been asked before, so have you looked at it and rejected it? Have MS kept the file format secret?
    Thanks

This is not really an answer just my comments on your question.
I am sure I recollect efforts being made to get mhtml to work with FF.
Probably the important thing to remember about .mhtml is that if other browsers do support it they may need addons, and may not necessarily render the content correctly/consistently.
There are FF addons designed for archiving webpages, you could try them, but that then assumes the recipient has the same software.
You could simply save the page from FF to your XP pc; then offline open it with and save it using IE, before then emailing using FF, and attaching the .mht or mhtml file that you have now created on your PC.
As an alternative method, in some cases it could be worth considering taking a screen grab of the required page, then sending that to the recipient as a single email attatchment using either a bitmap or jpeg file format for instance.
Something such as an airline booking may be designed with a print option, possibly it could be worthwile looking at sending the print file itself as an email attachment.

How can I save a pages document so it can be opened in a Windows (Word) program?

Word can't read .pages documents. You have to export the Pages  document to a Word document. File > export or share > Word
Download the Pages User Guide from your Pages Help menu to learn more about how Pages works.

    Hi,
If your data is in an array, the easiest way is to use the ArrayToFile function.
It automatically creates a file and puts your data in it according to the format you provide.
If you have individual samples that you need to write once in a while, you can either collect them into an array and then use ArrayToFile or open a file with fopen and write them as they are acquired with fwrite.
    Hope this helps,

  • How can I convert web page to PDF? When I upgraded to 4, it does not work.

Since I upgraded to firefox 4 I can not convert web page to PDF, before there was a place in the upper left corner that said convert to PDF. If there is not a way to do this in 4 then how can I go back to the old firefox. If I can't I guess I will just uninstall FireFox.

  • I use iMac desktop. I can't save web pages as PDF file by using Firefox, but by Safari is fine.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.4. Today, I tried to save my email content as a PDF file. However, I only got a PDF file that have partial content of email. Then I adjust the printer setting and did it again, then I only got a blank PDF file. There was nothing inside. Then I tried to save email as a PDF file by using Safari browser. And I got a complete and sucessful PDF file. I usually save web pages or web mail, online receipt as PDF file by use Firefox. But since I have updated to the new version, there were many problems with my Firefox. I tried to restore all my application and made Firefox in the old 3.6.3 version which I used to have no problem. But now still not working.

I solved it for myself: it was my HP smart-web printer crap that was a plug in and add on for firefox that somehow automatically got installed when I upgraded to 5. I disabled both in the add-ons manager, and voila, printing is working.
It seems there are many things, like this and the Google toolbar, that were screwed by the oddly fast update to 5. Looks like Mozilla didn't give anybody any notice! Must've been some really bad security hole.

  • How can I save a page complete so that I can take our a print later on with its complete texts and pictures.I want that the copy of the page when printed should be exactly the same with all the details.

When save a web page and try to take out print the pictures in the web page are not coming in the print.I want to know how to save the webpage so that when I take its print it comes out in its entirety without loosing any details of the original webpage.

If you drop down the "Save as Type" list in the Save page dialog, you have the choices of HTML only (images not saved to your computer) and HTML complete (images are saved to your computer). Neither of these is perfect.
If you really need a record of what you see today, I suggest printing the page to PDF. There are a number of free print-to-PDF products, as well as paid ones. This isn't perfect either, because some sites look different in print than on screen, but it avoids the problem of sites changing or links breaking after your browsing session ends, etc.
If you have an example of a page that can't be printed as it appears on the screen, you could post a URL. For example, many blogs print in an "unstyled" format.

  • How can I get web page to retain button count values

    Hi,
I have a button which, each time it is pressed increments a
number. The number is shown in a text box. This all works fine, on
my web page. However if I close the web page and then reopen it,
the count number goes back to zero. How can I keep the number it
was (eg 10) and keep incrementing it ?
I have the button on Frame 1 and the text box on Frame 2.

You will need to use Shared Object to store the info on user
    drive.
It is Flash's native form of cookies and works locally (from
    exe projector)
    as well as in browser.
