How can I secure/encrypt a file held on an external HD

I would like to put items on my external wireless networked lacie HD which cannot be accessed by others who use it. I thought creating a disk image would work but after putting the files and transferring to the public folder on the HD, I want to delete the files from my local drive as they take up so much room. When I then log back into the Lacie the files I put there have disappeared. I've re-created this a few times and it seems that the image on the network drives mimics what I do locally.
Am I doing something wrong? I know how to set encryption and unchecking the pswd in keychain.

Hi Matt
I create using disk utility. I then drag and drop the file into the disk image.
I thought about this (shortcut) and yes the first time it was a shortcut, next time I copied and pasted.
However, now it appears as a folder on the Lacie and not as a mount.
Q - should I be moving the xxx.dmg file over to the HDD? I am currently moving the mounted drive that appears on the desktop

That is the only logical conclusion. There is an easy solution. On the Mac app store download a free app called smartconverter. It is free. You just drag and drop file into app and it will convert to any file u want. I hope that foxes your issue

You can prevent it from being printed by applying a security policy to it
in Acrobat. The rest can't be prevented, unless you spend a LOT of money
on DRM protection.

My own tip is to save this kind of doc in an encrypted disk image (the .dmg items)
Such item resemble to every downloaded installer so it doesn' take special attention and the encryption scheme is an efficient one.

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

How can you securely erase my eMacs HDD without the use of a disk drive?

I want to get rid of my eMac, it runs fine and would be a waste if I just threw it out, but the disk drive doesn't work, how can I securely delete the HDD to get all personal info off of it so I could either sell it or give it away while still working? Well, you didn't state that in your original post. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Here's an option for you:
Open Accounts preferences and click on the lock icon to authenticate. Create a new user account by clicking on the Add [-] button. Be sure to configure this account with Administrator status. Log out of your account and log into the new account. Now delete your account. Be sure to select the last option that completely removes your account. If there is a sub-option to Securely Erase then select that option. If not then see Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Removing files from your computer. Note the option for securely erasing free space. It's time consuming but will assure none of your files can be accessed. If you aren't concerned about your data's security then you can skip any options to securely erase free space.

Thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately I'm still not able to get this to work.
First, I don't see an export to Quicktime in AppleTV format setting. The only choices that I have are export to Quicktime in Full, CD, email or streaming video format.
I tried both full and CD but I still cannot get it to my AppleTV. Once the video is in Quicktime format I drag and drop the file into my iTunes library. It shows up in the movies directory on Itunes but when I sync Itunes with Apple TV - nothing. Everything else syncs but just not the quicktime movie.
Any ideas?

How can I back up my files during a Kernel Panic?

Hello, I am new to these forums.
Okay, so last week I updated my Macbook Pro like I normally do (I'm assuming it was 10.5.7), but then when I restarted my macbook I saw the apple logo and then the screen turned grey and a bunch of numbers and letters filled the screen (which I now know is a Kernel Panic or something).
I am unable to login at all or even see the log-in screen, all I can get to is the apple logo when I first turn on the computer. I plan on making an appointment at my local apple store, but they told me to back up any files I didn't want to lose.
So my question is...
How can i back up my files during a Kernel Panic if I can't even log in?
I have my original disks from when I got my macbook pro if that's any help?
Should I just tell my local apple store that I need help backing up my files?
or am I screwed?

Well, when I turn it on a box appears over the apple logo and says something like "please restart your machine or hold the power button for 7 seconds".
and the numbers and letters appear random to someone like me but I'm sure it says something to someone who knows about it. At the very beginning of the "random" numbers and letter it says something about kernel and panic and I googled some of the message and it kept leading me to other people who said it was a kernel panic.
Also I tried to start it while holding shift and it never goes to single user mode it just does the same thing as if I never pushed or held shift. I'll try the whole firewire thing if I can figure it out, but I don't have another mac so I'd have to do it with a PC.
Edit: Also I did one of those hardware tests using the osx dvd and the short test said i have an error (and when i googled that error it brought me to people with kernel panics) but when I did the extended test that took about an hour and a half it came back saying everything was fine.

It is not working. I wish to decline in having the pdf pack. How can I give up this purchase? I definitely do not want the Adobe PDF Pack anymore.
Who do I have to contact or what do I need to do to cancel this purchase?

Hi Flávia,
Adobe PDF Pack is an online subscription--it definitely allows you to combine several files into one PDF file. For more information about PDF Pack, see Reliably Create PDFs, Convert PDFs, & Merge PDFs Online | Adobe PDF Pack. If you don't have the full version of Acrobat, this is a great solution for combining PDF files.
However, if you're using Acrobat (not Adobe Reader), you combine files by following these steps:
Open a PDF file that you want to add pages to.
Click the Pages pane on the Tools panel (on the right side of the application).
Click Insert From File, and choose the file that you want to combine with the PDF that you opened in step 1.
Make any changes necessary in the Insert Pages dialog box--these settings determine where the new file will be inserted.
Click OK.
