How can I see my HD over Airport extreme

I have a Seagate 3TB HD with USB3 ( backward compatible to USB2) connected to the Airport Extreme USB port. The HD is formatted to be readable to the Mac and Windows in my workgroup. The Seagate light is on so I know the USB port is connecting. The HD is password protected and I put that password into the Airport Utility. I have made the access to the HD account dependant and put in the 3 of us who will be using it.  In Airport Utility 5.6 I can see the 3 TB drive.  But it doesn't appear on my desktop. (Note I have downgraded  Airport Utiity from v.6, because the 5.6 is more compatible  with another wireless adapter I have.)  Please Help.

can i link the airport extreme and the airport express and use the latter just to play music wireless in the home system?

  • How can I see the disk in airport extreme

    Hello
I have an airport extreme, I downloaded the Airport Utility, I connected the printer and everyting is fine, I can access the printer from other computers at home. Then I unplugged the printer and connected an USB disk (working of course), and everything is fine, Airport Utility detected it. However, I dont know how can I access the disk from the computers. I have all windows 7 computers at home, but now way to see the disk. What I am doing wrong
    thank your

I don't use this setting, so can't offer much assistance, but do know that your computer is exposed to the Internet, so it will receive all inbound traffic.
Normally, a typical use of Default Host would be to setup a game console to allow online gaming when NAT settings otherwise would not allow communications to occur.
You might want to start a new post for your question...but to get informed responses....you will need to state what you are trying to do. what steps you have performed, etc.

  • How can I open ports on my AirPort Extreme, from WINDOWS?

I have an Airport Extreme as my router, and I have a Windows-based computer. I need to open ports on the router (ironically, it is for my Apple TV).
However, even though I can use the Airport Utility for Windows (latest version 5.5.3), I cannot open ports from the application.
Everywhere I look, I am supposed to have a firewall tab in the Advanced section, but I do not have it. The only tabs that I have in Advanced are:
    Logging and Statistics
    MobileMe
    IPv6
How can I open ports on my Airport Extreme router from Windows?

Is your AirPort Extreme the only router in your network configuration?

  • Can't see HD on new Airport Extreme with TimeMachine software

Just bought a new Airport Extreme for which set up was easy -- I plugged it into my router via ethernet, ran the configuration and was good to go.
The AirPort Extreme is plugged in and appears to be set up correctly as the green light is glowing on the front and I can see it in the Airport Utility as well as surf the 'net and send and receive emails, etc.
I plugged a new 1TB FW800/USB drive into the Airport Extreme (via USB) after formating it on my MBP and verifying the two 500 GB partitions I created; one partition for the MBP and the other new Mini I just installed in my studio.
I can sign in succesfully into the Airport, but when I select the Tab for Disks, neither partitions nor the disk itself are showing up -- without which I can not designate the partitions to each Mac.
    I have rebooted the AirPort and re-verified the 1TB FW800/USB drive ...
The goal is to use the Time Machine software for backing up each Mac to its respective partition wirelessly.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you ....

TM over network to FW shared drive is an interesting work around.
There are some tricks to this kind of setup.
    See http://code.stephenmorley.org/articles/time-machine-on-a-network-drive/
Make sure BTW the drive is partitioned GUID .. if it was a windows drive at some point it may still have MBR.. and that will not work... in some cases.
It is better to connect AFP than SMB.. but I presume you are doing that although you don't state it.
I would try using ethernet to do the setup as well.. not just wireless.
Wireless should be in the same vlan as the ethernet.. but I have run into troubles recently where things weren't what they appeared.

  • Can't see External HD through Airport Extreme Base Station

I have upgraded to the Apple Airport Extreme Firmware 7.1. Previously I was unable to see my 2 External HDs that are connected to the base station via a powered USB hub. Both of the HDs are FAT32s. I had hoped the firmware update would resolve the problem. But I am still not seeing the HDs. I connect to the base station wireless through a MacBook.
Any clues/help would be appreciated. I've scanned through several posts and seen people with similar problems and others that can see their HDs but not some files.

I suggest using the following instructions to re-check your AirPort Extreme Card/Antenna cable installation in your G4 iMac just to be sure nothing was missed: iMac (17-inch 1GHz) and iMac (USB 2.0): Customer-Installable Parts Instructions
Also, check that the antenna cable is firmly attached per this Apple Article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108039
I have the base station connected to a pc so I can't download iStumbler.
For the PC, you can use NetStumbler instead.
I'm not sure how to check if a signal is being sent through Airport utility.
Instead of the AirPort Utility, you can use the Internet Connection utility to verify signal strength of your base station. To access this utility, just right-click the AirPort status icon in the menu bar, and then, select it from the drop-down menu.

  • How can I force my Second Generation Airport Extreme to use 2.4GHz when extending the network of my Fifth Generation Airport Extreme?

    Hi,
Would be great if anyone can help.  I have setup my Second Generation Airport Extreme to extend the network of the Fifth Generation Airport Extreme.  The 2nd generation Airport extreme seems to automatically get set to use 5GHz vs 2.4GHz.  I would like to force it to use 2.4GHz so my older devices can connect to it.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

Enable the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz network on your 5th Gen AirPort Extreme.
Then, the 2nd Gen Extreme will only "see" the 2.4 GHz network, and extend that signal.
If you are not sure how to do this, post back to tell us what operating system you are using on your computer so we will know what version of AirPort Utility you are using....so we can provide the correct steps for the setup.

  • How can I configure my first gen Airport extreme?

does anyone know how I can configure my 1st Gen Airport Extreme with my latest Airport Utility? Or is there another way?

A 1st Generation AirPort Extreme is model number A1143.  Please check on the bottom of your device to confirm that you have this model number.
A1143 can be configured using the latest version of AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion OS X (10.8.4).
If you don't see model A1143......you do not have a 1st Generation AirPort Extreme. What model number do you see?

  • How can I print from ipad2 via airport extreme to hp printer on USB.

Is there a way to get iPad2 to print via airport extreme to a non wireless hp printer?

Apple - iPad - Print right from your iPad with AirPrint.
Unfortunately, AirPrint will only work with AirPrint enabled HP printers.
Check the HP site. They may have an app available you can use for your USB / Airport printer.

  • How can I access USB drive on AirPort Extreme with iPad

Good day. I recently purchased an AirPort Extreme, and am very pleased. I thought I would take advantage of the ability to store files and videos of my children on my USB drive on the router. Installation was flawless, however, i cannot access the USB drive with my IPad. I have seen several postings about this, am i correct in reading that this is not possible without a 3rd party app? If that is the case, could someone point me in the right direction?

Have you tried this? (And is the Airport new enough that you can call Apple?)
*Manually mounting Mac OS Extended (HFS+) volumes*
*From the Finder's Go menu choose Connect to Server.*
*Enter the AirPort Extreme Base Station's LAN IP address (by default 10.0.1.1).*
*Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s).*
*Select the desired AirPort Disk(s) from the available Volumes.*
    *Manually mounting FAT16/FAT32 volumes*
*From the Finder's Go menu choose Connect to Server.*
*Enter the AirPort Extreme Base Station's LAN IP address preceded by smb:// (for example, smb://10.0.1.1 )*
*Enter the username and password required to access the AirPort Disk(s). Leave the Workgroup field empty unless you have assigned one in AirPort Utility.*
*Select the desired AirPort Disk from the available CIFS (Common Internet File System) volumes*

  • How can access hours be restricted with airport extreme

I want to be able to stop my kids from accessing the internet and bogging things down during the day when working from home.  Is there an easy way to do this with an Airport base station network or by setting up a guest network?  I have tried using parental controls but that limits all computer use, not just online access hours.  Any help would be appreciated.

You do have a number of choices available to you to restrict access, either completely through AirPort's Access Control, or limiting what they will be able to access on the Internet. If your goal is to restrict them from particular sites or categories of sites, like P2P sharing torrents, one option is to use OpenDNS as your DNS provider. Through their service, you can easily configure what they can access or not.

  • How can i see the hdd, attached to my airport extreme, on the internet?

I have an Airport Extreme installed with a HDD attached.
I can see the disk and manipulate files when logged in at home.
I want to use it as a storage for current files (and more) which I need every day.
How can I make this visible over the internet and reach it from other places?

In the 5.6 utility you should be able to see everything via the advanced pages.
It will not log the name so you will need to work out from your Mac which user corresponds to which MAC address.

  • HT1918 How can I see ALL transaction history in my account.  Specifically, I would like to see the gift cards I have redeemed for my account.  I know I have over $200 in my account but it is not showing the balance anywhere.  Any ideas?!?!?

How can I see ALL transaction history in my account.  Specifically, I want to review the gift cards I have redeemed but the amounts are not showing up in my account.  I know I have over $200 in my account and I am unable to access it.  The site wants me to pay by credit card and I don't want to do that.  Any ideas how I can recover the money in my account?

You can only view your account's purchase history, you can't view a history of card redemptions.
My account's balance shows at the top left of the store's page on my computer's iTunes, and by logging in to view my account via the Store > View Account menu option. On my iOS devices it shows at the bottom of, for example, the Featured tab in the App Store app under my account id (or you can view your account via Settings > iTunes & App Stores and it should show on the screen that you are taken to).
To view your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option, you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it. Click on that and you should then see a list of your purchases.
You've tried logging out and back into your account to see if your balance then shows ? If not, and you can't see where it might have been spent, then you could try contacting iTunes Support and see if they can help : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • How can I see Airport is used?

I have a cable ethernet connection and a wireless Airport connection for internet. How can I see which connection Safari is using?

Your iMac will attempt to make a network connection based on the order of network connectors listed in System Preferences > Network.
For example, if AirPort is listed at the top, and Ethernet second, your iMac will create a connection by wireless. If that fails, it would try Ethernet next. It will NOT use both connections simultaneously to increase the connections' overall bandwidth.

  • How can I set up an older airport express using the newest airport utilities?

How can I set up an older airport express using the newest airport utilities? Seems like there isn't an option to set this up.  Normally you could add/set up this in the airport setup assistant- but that doesn't exsist any longer.
    Thanks for any suggestions

How can I set up an older airport express using the newest airport utilities?
Unfortunately you can't, since Apple dropped support of the older AirPorts with AirPort Utility 6.x.
Using some workarounds....not supported by Apple.....you might be able to download and install an older version of AirPort Utility that would allow you to administer the older AirPort.
