How can I select a user on a MacBook running mountain lion?

I cannot select a select a user in my MacBook, I have the Mountain Lion OS. On the screen when I start my computer the users are there and the cursor moves but when I try to select any of them I am not able to do it.
Is there a way to fix this?
As an additional information, my DVD drive doesn't work.
I would appreciate any help.

How can I allow other users on my macbook to view my iphoto library when they are logged in. I do not have a network, and the users (my family) all log in seperately when they use the computer. Does anyone know? Thank you.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If you want others to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account(s). In the other account(s), enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in their source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.

Is there anything I can do to make videos on line work? I discovered that Java quits immediately. Could that be the cause? If so, how do I fix it?

  • How can I resolve backup time machine after upgrade to Mountain Lion?

Time machine backup is "failed" and message reads:  The backup disk image "/volumes/data/lynnblake's MacBookPro sparsebundle" is already in use.
I have no idea what this means or how to solve.  It started after my upgrade to mountain lion.

Shut down the computer then restart it.

  • Can my Macbook run Mountain Lion?

    I have a Macbook 2008 with version 10.6.8
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Macbook aluminium late 2008 model when u update to OSX mountain lion will very slow.
u can upgrade hardware to improve.
    1st is Ram =4GB x 2 = 8GB 1333 or 1066ram also can use.
2nd SSD intel (reliability) we not only want speed only.
Ram can upgrade to 4GB(apple), 6GB (max) is actual test.
If u update to OS X mountain lion then Ram can upgrade to 8GB (max) actual test.
original is use 1066 Ram,but this actual test can support 1333 Ram..
so u can choose Corsair Mac Memory or Kingston Mac Memory.
for macbook late 2008 unibody with mountain lion user. after upgrade Ram and SSD will become
    new macbook pro.
    my opinion,
this is my personal actual test...my macbook now mountain lion with Corsair 8GB 1333 + 500GB harddrive for Data + intel 120GB SSD for system (optical drive remove)
    Full Working !

  • How to access files from 2nd hard drive while running Mountain Lion

Not sure the best way to word this and if there is a forum with and answer already I apologize. I recently Upgraded to an SSD split in 2 partitions one with Windows 8 the other half running mountain lion. I replaced the superdrive with the old hard drive that has Snow Leopard and all my documents. The old SATA HD appears and the file structure is visible but I cannot access any files. I recieve an access denied message. ANy help would be appreciate it. Also secondary issue and less important is due to limited space on the SSD I would like to move the user data to the old HD so it would boot ML from SSD but pull and save all downloads, documents, music etc onto the old SATA HD.

When you get the drive permissions worked out, and the home directory duped from the SSD to the other HDD, there is a way to tell the OS where the new home directory resides.
System Preferences > Users & Groups
Unlock the preference pane. Now right click on your User name ( Admin). The pop-up will say Advanced Options ...
Home Directory: Choose...  and pick the new HDD home directory location.
    Lock the panel down again.
    Done.

  • How do I select my Mac to start up on Mountain Lion rather than Windows?

I used Boot Camp to put Windows on my Mac. I got worried incase it would wipe Mountain Lion off my Mac so I cancelled it. I deleted the partition.
Now everytime I start my Mac up, it tries to open via Windows (which isn't installed).
How do I  make it automatically boot up using Mountain Lion (10.8.2)?

To start into OS X, press X key while your Mac is starting. You can also press Option key and select Macintosh HD.
Then, to start always into OS X, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose Macintosh HD.
You don't have to worry about the Windows installation because if you don't do anything wrong, Windows and OS X will share space on the hard disk of your computer. If you want to install Windows with Boot Camp, print this file > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

  • How can I hide the "home" and "net" volumes in mountain lion

I have a MacBook Pro that I updated to Mt. Lion.  The home and net volumes are now visible in the Finder at the root level.  They contain 0 bytes of data.  How can I make them invisible?

Sometimes it takes me a while to remember this stuff. The issue is that these invisible folders are actually symlinks and not real folders. They behave differently. Here's something that used to work and may still:
Open Terminal in the Utilities folder:
    cd /
    nano .hidden
Press RETURN after each line. In the editor listing enter, one line each, home and net. CTRL+O to save the file. Now log out and log back in or restart. The files should be invisible.
Beyond this requires downloading the XTools in order to use one developer tool not included with OS X.

  • How can I turn off auto-capitalization for Mail in Mountain Lion?

How can I keep mail.app from capitalizing the first letter of sentences?  I have turned off auto-correct both at the system level and in Mail, and yet I cannot seem to keep Mail from capitalizing the first letter?

Thanks - this helped me track it down - some Textexpander setting apparently got switched when I updated.

  • How can I drag a photo into a contact in Mountain Lion Contacts?

I used to be able to go to a person's web site and drag his/her picture into a contact in AddressBook. In Mountain Lion it AddressBook is now called Contacts. When creating a new contact, the picture field still shows up, and dragging a photo (in this case a jpg from a web page) into the field still shows the green plus sign. But then nothing happens. Clicking on the picture field just reveals the same dialogue as the one when creating ones own picture/icon.
    Looks like a bug.

Thanks, that helped. It turns out dragging a web picture to Mail and then to Contacts also woks. I guess my question becomes then, why is it not possible to directly drag a picture into Contacts -- like it used to be?
Also, all contact pictures are now also getting entered into the list of "Recents" across all contacts, including my own, and including "Recents" when selecting an account picture.
That's clearly broken compared to how it used to be in Lion where there was a distinction of (recent) pictures for oneself and pictures for other contacts.

well i really want to upgrade my current os 10.5.8 to mountain lion,
i have been doing some reading over the net and found out that fisrt i need to upgrade to snow leopard and than to lion. but how can i upgrade to snow leopard ? i have been searching apple store but didn`t found any thing yet regarding snow leopard, some one told me that i need to get snow leopard dvd, but where can i get that from? apple don`t see these any more...:(
please help me..   can i directly upgrade to lion or mountain lion?
or is there any other method ?..........

You DO have to Upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 first, then you can Upgrade directly to Mountain Lion from there, IF your computer supports Mountain Lion (see below)?  Snow Leopard at this point is only available by calling Apple Customer Support in your country and ordering the download code and process, or possibly a Disk, for Snow Leopard.
    General Requirements
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    Supported
    Models
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Hope this helps

  • How can i install an internet explorer on OS X mountain lion?

    hi,
i want to use internet explorer on my mac, is there any way to install.
i need it as there are some websites which can open only in internet explorer, its a loss for me that i cant open websites on this safari
kindly help me if any one knows or using IE.
    thanks

That is completely false about Windows. Windows does not automatically get infected with anything the minute you connect it to the net. My god where do you come up with that? I run several Windows PCs and none of them run any malware or anti virus programs and none of them have ever been infected with anything and they are always connected to the Internet. I'm typing this reply from one such Windows PC.
It's all about how you use your computer not the OS it runs. Sure Windows is a much bigger target for the scum of the world to attack as it has 90% of the market so the people that write the viruses and malware programs do it for a system they have a better chance of infecting.
But to ***-U-Me that just because you have Windows and you go to the Net that it will get infected with something is just a Bold Face Lie. And I suspect you know that.
So why not post truths instead of the Lie in your post.
By the way Mac's can also be infected as has been proven recently. So no matter what OS you run you can get infected. Now that is not a Lie.
    arthur wrote:
The two responses above are right- there is no Windows Explorer version that will install in Mountain Lion.
There are a couple of things you can try that might work, short of installing Windows on your machine, either in a virtual machine (like virtual box or parallels) or with bootcamp. Personally, I hate either of those options, just because windows is such a magnet for malware and viruses. The second you expose windows to the internet it becomes infected.

  • How can I synchronize my blackberry 9810 with Calendar Mac Mountain Lion

hello, i've a big problem because i can't transfer my date from my blackberry 9810 to my calendar apple mac mountain lion and not the inverse. I utilise the blackberry desktop but it's only bi-directionnel and i would like to do it just in this sens because all my dates are in my phone. I can't understand why it's not working. Before i utilise icalc and it was working. There now it's calendar for mac and it's not working. It's says that it where 96 date but they are not transferred or i don't find them. Thank you for your help and if it's a french who response me it will be better but all are good of course.

You can't install a previous version on your Mac since it came with Mavericks pre installed.
Read here >  Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
Some Macs are still shipping with Mountain Lion. I should have asked you.
    I'm glad macjack caught that

  • How can i access my lacie external drive with os mountain lion

I have just upgradet my macbook pro from snow leopard to mountain lion, and now i can't restore my backed up files from my Lacie external drive.
When i try to connect to it through time machine or migration assistant i get the message:
"the version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported"
I have tried to enable all UAMs but i still can't connect.
I have browsed after other similar situations, but i can't seem to find any though i'm hardly the only one with this problem.

If the backup was made using time machine, you should be able to access any files you need or want manually using the finder. It may not be pretty, but it should work. I don't know why the migration assistant would be unable to access it though.
If you can't access the contents of the backup with the finder, then I would say your problem is a bit more serious.
