How can I select only a small part of the image to clone or edit etc?

I want to select part of the image to clone is, and just edit the selected part. I know i can do this on photoshop but how do i do it on Aperture?

You use the "Retouche" brush in Aperture and set it to "clone".
Option-Click on the location you want to clone from to select a source, and then brush over the location where you want to clone to. The cloned region will follow the shape of the brushed area. You do not lasso the shape to to copy and paste it like in Photoshop.
For example: Duplicating a penguin: The sourcepoint has been set to the beak of the second penguin, and then I brushed along the path where I want to penguin clone to appear.
If I brush the whole area eventually the penguin will be copied completely. You'll have to experiment a bit with the brush size and softnees to ensure that the cloned object will blend in.

When previewing images by clicking on the thumbnail in an Event for example, I've been finding that many images preview in a 'zoomed in' way so only a small part of the photos is previewed in a highly magnified view.

Initially I could find no cause. Then I tried right click - Edit and on the affected images, always get this warning:
"Image Cannot Be Edited - This photo was previously edited with another application or with an early version of Iphoto. Duplicate this photo to edit it." and a "Duplicate To Edit" Button is displayed.
The external Editor defined for iPhoto is Adobe Photoshop Elements.
Now, I reckon the MUST be others out there affected by this same apparent Preview bug, yet my searches have not revealed any answers. Also seems impossible to find a contact number for adobe???

Is it possible to work only on a small part of the image in FCP ?

I"m working on a DV film that I have made this winter, but on the original film, the image (video) is a lot darker on both top corners (I have some problems with my camera when I use it outside during the winter).
Is there any way to work only on a part of the image with a filter, instead of working on the whole image. I would like to work on thoses 2 darker spot without touching the rest of the image.

What you need to do is color correct just those two portions of the image. In a DaVinci and Final Touch this is called using "power windows." Now, you can do this one of two ways.
1) Layer the same clip on the timeline 3 times. V1, V2 and V3. Same start and end time on all clips. Now, use the 4-point garbage matte on the clips on the upper layers to isolate those sections and then apply the 3-way color corrector to brighten the images.
2) Colorista by Red Giant Software (www.redgiantsoftware.com) is a $200 color correction filter that allows you to layer color correction and isolate specific areas...using POWER WINDOWS in effect.

Help!!! the app Iphoto is closed marking a erros. I go back and open the application and are not photos. How can I recover them? Are not in the image folder.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

How can I select more than one song from the search results?

I want to create playlists based on certain words in the song title. For example, I may want to create a playlist of all my songs with LOVE in the title.
Doing the search is easy, but I can't select more than one song at a time. Is there any way in iTunes 12 for Windows to do this? I found an answer in iTunes for Mac, and it basically says to "un-check "Search Entire Library." " but I don't see that option in iTunes for Windows.

Found the "Search Entire Library" option - click on the small (VERY small for my eyesight) down arrow next to the magnifying glass. Also need to select "Filter by: Songs", and then the songs in the main window show the results.
I'm going to leave this up on the board because 1) in case someone else has this question, and 2) I don't know how to delete it anyway.

How can you get frame by frame control of the image on a movie buttom?

Working on IDVD 7.0.4, I'm trying to position still frames for each of my movie buttons. I read the help pdf and the slider worked an several images, but would not let me move frame by frame to select. When I found the image I wanted and selected it, as soon as I clicked away it reverted to a spot several frames later in the movie. Is there a way to move frame by frame in the still mode?

Have you tried the smart playlist function? You can set-up specific criteria, the number of songs you want in the playlist & have iTunes do the work for you. These are the only playlists I make anymore because I don't want to be dragging & dropping individual songs.

In Organizer I want to select every jpg in my catalog.
Ctrl+1 gives me pictures. But those includes bmp, psd, png, etc.
Find with search for filename. But I can't seem to do a *.jpg.

How can I select and delete rows based on the value in one column?

I searched through the discussion board, and found a thread on deleting blank rows, but not sure how to modify it to work with my issue.
I have put together a rather complicated spreadsheet for designing control systems, it calculates parts needed based on check boxes selected in a second spreadsheet.
Since not all systems require all parts there are many rows that have a 0 quantity value, I would like to select these rows and delete them once I have gone through the design phase (checking off required features on a separate sheet).
I like the way the other thread I found will gather all the blank rows at the bottom without changing the order of the rows with data in them.
I don't understand exactly how the formula in the other thread works well enough to modify it to look for a certain column.
I hope I made myself clear enough here, to recap, I would like to sort the rows based on a zero value in one (quantity) column, move them (the zero quantity rows) to the bottom of the sheet, and then delete the rows with a zero quantity (I can delete them manually, but would like to automate the sorting part).

How can I 'cut and paste' a part of one image to another?

I have this program the creates great syfi looking planets and some other cool stuff. I creates them
on a solid black background. I'm hoping there is a way to cut out just that planet and paste it onto
the sky of another picture. I don't want the black background just the planet. I can go in and make
the edges look nice after it's done. But I don't know how to do it :-(

1. use the selection tool(s) of your choice to select the planet. It helps to give the selection a one or two pixel feather to avoid a cutout look (Select>Feather).
2. Copy it (ctrl+C in windows, command+C on a mac)
3. Paste it (ctrl+v in windows, command+v on a mac)
You will get better results if both images have the same ppi before you start (image>resize>image size. If you need to make a change for one image, make sure Resample Image is OFF.) You can use the Move tool to arrange/resize the object once it's in the destination photo.

You can drag any of your photos to the coverpage.
Click onto the title page to select it and open the Photos Browser window, then drag the photo you want to use onto the title page.

Don't create a playlist for three songs.
Either uncheck those songs or a much better way is to create a playlist (or a few) of songs you want on the iPod the sync only those playlists.
To add/delete from the iPod, simply add/delete from those playlists.
