How can I set my credit card option to "none"? Editing my account or creating a new one, the option is not there.

An email from support suggested this; 3) On the Edit Payment Information page, select "None" from the list of credit card types. This will delete your billing information.
But the "none" button is nowhere to be found.

You cannot use an existing Apple ID. Take a look here:

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. If you wish to use an existing Apple ID, you must provide a payment method.
