How can I set New Tab to open a certain (Home) page?

I would like to be able to open a new tab which goes straight to my home page. How can I do this?

Use this add-on to add that feature to Firefox. <br />

  • How can i get new tabs to open on my home page?

I would like to have new tabs automatically open to my home page like it does when Firefox starts up.

Type '''about:config''' in the Location Bar and hit Enter.
    ''Accept the warning message.''
Type '''newtab.url''' in the Search field at the top.
Go down a bit to this pref - '''browser.newtab.url''' = right-click and select '''Modify''' - insert '''about:home''' - if you are using the default homepage, otherwise put the URL of your homepage in the dialog box

  • My new tabs setting has chnanged to msn when I downloaded msn games, how can I reset new tabs to open my firefox home page please?

Hi since I downloaded msn games my new tab window defaults to msn but I want it ot be Firefox. I can't seem to find how to reset it, can you advise please. Thanks

You can go to Firefox and download one of many add-ons to do this. This issue has been addressed in another forum in Firefox Help. Follow this link: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/773676?s=new+tab+google&as=s
Two add-ons mentioned by Tony E. are NewTabURL or New Tab Homepage.
Also, whenever you open the new tab, you can just click on the home icon. That is what I do.

How can I get a new tab in FF5 to default to my home page? The add-on which did that doesn't work with 5.

You can middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.
You can look at this extension:

Not a standard feature in Firefox, but a number of different add-ons have that feature.

  • How do I set my tabs to open with my home page?

When I open a tab, how can I get it to open to my Home Page - the page I have set to open when opening Firefox?

'''To cause new tabs to open at your home page in all windows''':
'''I have added specific instructions to clarify exactly where entries should be made''' to the useful solution by Fred McD. (I'm using Firefox v. 29.0.1).
The procedure is now very easy: just be careful with spelling of entries.
Begin by opening a new window or tab. In the address (aka URL/location) bar, type '''''about:config'''''. If a warning screen comes up, click the '''''Be Careful''''' message.
A new search bar appears below the address bar. Type '''''browser.newtab.url ''''' in it and press Enter.
Below the new search bar is a new header: '''Preference Name''', followed by a long list list of all the possible preferences (settings) that can be changed (one of which is ''browser.newtab.url''). There is no explanation of the function of each; nor is there a corresponding list of possible values for each setting, so before you change one, record its value.
Right click on '''Preference Name''' and from the resulting drop-down list click on '''''Modify'''''. A small window will open which contains a field containing the current value for browser.newtab.url. Note its value, then overwrite it with '''''about:home''''' to select the default Firefox home page for all new tabs. The new setting is immediately active: close the window.
This method leaves the address bar of a new tab blank, unlike clicking the '''Home''' icon, so a different URL may be quickly entered if desired. (The new tabs have the unexpected generic title "Mozilla Firefox Start Page")
    Other possible settings are:
about:newtab (shows the site most visited)
    about:blank (a blank page)
any web page address (URL) you choose
The same instructions apply to New Window settings, but beginning with the entry '''''browser.startup.homepage''''' .

How do I get tabs to open in my home page?

You can install one of the many add-ons to accomplish this. There are many different ones available, so you can just go to the Firefox add-ons page and search for "Home Page".
Also, ensure that you've setup Firefox with your Home Page URL. If you haven't done so, follow the steps below:
    * Go to Options (i.e. \Firefox\Options\Options);
    * Go to the General tab;
    * Under Start-up - enter the URL in the Home Page URL box.
Note: Make sure that you have chosen "Show my Home Page" under "When Firefox Starts" (use the drop down arrow).

  • How can I set app tabs to open to the default page on startup?

If I use an App Tab and click on a link from that tab, then exit and open Firefox, it opens up the website I was on when I closed Firefox the last time as the App Tab. For example, If I have Google as an app tab, make a search, click on a new website, and exit Firefox, the same website from before will load in my App tab instead of Google. When I open Firefox, I want my app tabs to open to their default pages, not the pages I was surfing from those tabs when I closed Firefox.

App Tabs are not protected against changing the URL by opening a link in that same tab and Firefox doesn't keep a record of the original URL.<br />
You can middle click a link to open the link in a new tab if you do not want the tab changing the URL.
You can lock the tab with the Tab Mix Plus extension.

  • I want a new tab to open as my home page not multiple pages

I want any new tab to open with my home page google and not multiple pages which are of no interest to me. It seems if you switch the option off you only get a blank page. If you use the add on feature it does not now work. this 'upgrade' is a nuisance.

'''Home page in New Tab'''<br />
There have been several ways suggested to do that, but the easiest for many users has been this add-on --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab

If you are referring to the search in the Add-ons Manager (''Firefox button > Add-ons'' or ''Tools > Add-ons'') that problem seems to have been corrected late yesterday afternoon. If you are referring to something else, you will need to give more details about what you are trying to do, the steps your are taking, what are the results of your action(s), and what you expect as a results.
