How can I set up a home wireless network with Comcast high speed internet?

I just signed up for Comcast High Speed Internet. I was able to get my Power Mac onto the internet. However, I connected my Airport Extreme and am unable to get it to recognize that I have an internet connection. I want to set up a wireless network in my apartment. Comcast tech support said that I only have one IP address.
Any suggestions as to how I can get my wireless network up and going? Thanks!

Should I change set up so that cable goes from the cable modem directly to Airport Extreme and then use the ports on the Extreme to run Ethernet Cable to Power Mac and other devices?
Yes
As an aside, would this setup allow me to hook my iBook up to Airport via Ethernet cable and let it get into Internet that way?
Yes

  • How can I get the Firefox browser to work with my high speed internet?

After switching from dial-up to high speed internet, I can no longer open the Firefox browser (which I was using) even after downloading the latest version. It is set for my default, but I can only use IE to browse. What else do I need to do to make it work?

You didn't tell me it was a user name password issue.
    Open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities)
    Select Passwords on the left.
    Delete the Delta keychain.
Now from your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Make sure:  User names and passwords is selected.
Navigate to the Delta site. Login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that info to a new keychain.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • How can I set up a guest WiFi network using Time Capsule and Airport Express extension?

Sorry, but it is not possible to "extend" the Guest Network using either wireless or an Ethernet connection.

  • How can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express

how can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express ?
The time capsule is near the Mac. ok
The first Airport is on the corridor, ok, works well and the App on the iPad signals so, ok
But when I plug the next Airport on another room nearby nothing happens, and signals disconected ....
is the signal so weak that is not able to go to ono room to the other ?

Well, even if you have the first express set up to extend the network, the second express can only extend from the TimeCapsule.
Maybe you got walls of sheetrook in the way, or kitchen/bathroom tiles, etc, dampening the signal rapidly.

  • Setting up HP Officejet 6500A; not sure how to connect to web w/ home wireless network

I have a small home wireless network.  I set the printer up today but it says that I must connect to the internet (fax part is working).  The only desktop I have, I keep off most the time and just use my laptop (which is for work so I can't set the printer up to this).
Is there a way to connect the printer directly to my router?  They are only a few feet from one another; however, I have no clue how to do it and the instructions manual didn't tell me much.  Do I need a phone line?  What would I use to connect the two?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Use an Ethernet cable, available in any tech store, online or even Target will have them.
Plug it into the back of the printer and router.  You should be able to add the printer to your laptop.  Let me know what operating system you have and I can help.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

How can I set up the Firefox Home App on my iPhone without using a desktop computer and without having to sync it, too?
My home computers are not functioning right now, but Firefox is my favorite browser.
Can someone help me get it working on my iPhone?

Actually, there is no version of Firefox for the iPhone. Firefox Home is a helper app to sync certain data to your iPhone.

  • How do I set up a desktop/laptop network with a WRT54G v5

I'm a novice when it comes ot networking, but I was hoping someone could guide me as to how to set up a wireless network with a laptop (non-linksys wireless card) and a desktop with a WRT54G. I've already got it where the laptop can connect to the internet via the WRT54G but I'd like to set-up a wireless network where the laptop can view and/or modify files on the desktop and vice-versa. Can aanyone help me? (I'd also like to add my external hard drive to the network I create via ethernet connection to the 54G, later on)
Can anyone give me a guide or even tell me if it's possible?

I'm glad it worked out for you. By the way, is this what you were trying to download? If so, I don't seem to have any problems downloading it. Check your PC's for any restrictions regarding downloads. Check your firewall as well.Message Edited by Katsuki23 on 06-30-2006 12:49 AM

  • I just set up an Optus Cisco DPQ3925 wireless router to access higher speed internet I signed up for. I have a 4th gen airport extreme I want to put in another room and use as a wifi extender the wifi but I get an error message each time I try. Help?

    Hello all.
I have just set up a new cisco DPQ3925 wireless router that Optus sent me to be able to access the higher speed internet I have signed up for.
I have a 4th gen apple extreme that I want to use to extend the wifi but when I try to update the settings via the airport utility I get a message that says it cannot do so, and to check it is in range and the wifi is set up correctly. I'm not experienced with these things but I can't think what I have done wrong.
Is anybody able to help me please.

You cannot use the AE to extend wireless from a non apple router such as your cisco modem router.. they are not compatible..
You need to tie to the two devices together either with ethernet or something like EOP adapters.. They are about $120 and you can price match in officeworks.

  • How can I set up my home network?

This post might get a little long, and I need someone with patience to help me modernize my network.
    Here's what I have:
    Modem: Comcast
    Router: Netgear WNDR 3700
External Hard Drive : 2 TB Seagate GoFlex Desk
    2 HD TiVo's connected via Cat 5
Windows laptop, connected via 5 GHZ network: Acer Aspire 6930 running Windows Vista Home Edition. Intel Core Duo CPU, 2.00 GHz, 4 Gig Ram, 32 Bit operating system. 144 Gig C drive, 140 Gig D drive, 698 External hard drive connected via USB.
MacBook Pro 13”, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB Ram, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB, running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
    iBook G4 13”, 1.2 GHz processor, Power PC  G4, 1.25 GB memory
    iPad 1, 64 gig w/ cellular
    iPad 1, 16 gig w/out cellular
    iPhone 4
    iPhone 3GS
    Apple TV
The Windows laptop was recently wiped out by a virus, so I lost all my programs. The MacBook I use for work (but I own it) and I travel with it, and the Windows laptop stays at home. The iBook is an old Mac I don’t use anymore.
I just got an Apple TV, and here’s my dilemma:
I’m ripping my DVD’s with Handbrake, and putting them in iTunes, but the only drive I have big enough for all of them is the 2 TB Seagate.  I would like to leave the Seagate at home, so my wife can watch videos and listen to music when I’m not at home.  However, I’d also like access to my music and videos when I’m on the road.  Ideally, I’d like the Seagate to be connected to my router as a networked drive, with the iTunes folder housed on it, and be able to sync music and video playlists to my MacBook Pro.  My iPad and iPhone 4 syncs to my Powerbook, and I want to be able to transfer videos to the iPad from the MacBook Pro.
So, how can Apple TV see all my media, all the time, yet be able to put media on my MacBook Pro and then to my iPad?  I can use the Windows laptop or the iBook as a home media server if need be, but all my ripping and video converting will be done on the MacBook Pro because its the only one that is fast enough.
    Thanks Guys!

The best way by far is to run ethernet as a kind of backbone between the two stories.. on one storey setup the AE and the other you setup the TC.
I have no idea if one is the main router or not.. or both are bridged.. that doesn't really matter.. the principle is.. one router per network. So whichever is not the main router change to bridge mode.
Both should create a wireless network. You can use roaming setup, where both use identical names and identical security. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4260

  • How can I set a custom Home Page while ALSO having a New Tab be the default Mozilla Page?

Why is the "home Page" = to a New Tab page? Why are they linked. I want my.yahoo.com to be my Home Page (currently set properly) but my New Tab page seems to be set to "Conduit" and has a search bar. I have no idea where that came from or how it got set that way. I want to have my current Home Page but make any New Tabs be the Mozilla Default Page with a Google search bar. Is that possible? I am running on Windows XP.

  • How can I set up an AirPort wirelessly in client mode on a roaming network?

I recently set up a roaming network within my office using a RADIUS server for access control. I have multiple airports connected to our broadband via ethernetcable providing a seamless network over a large space. It works great.
However, now that I've done this, I can't get one of my airort expresses to work as a wireless music box with speakers plugged in. This airport is in a location that has no ethernet nearby, which is fine because I just want to use it to play music, not extend the network. It's MAC address is configured in the RADIUS server as an authorized device.
I've tried this "client mode" setup, and a variety of other combinations of settings like making it part of the roaming network as an extender, with no avail:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1731
Everything I've tried gives me the "AirPort Utility was unable to find your AirPort wireless device after restarting" message, and my AirPort has only a yellow light.
It seems the AirPort Express is totally incompatible with a roaming network. Is there any way to make this work?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Before we get into details here, do you understand that the Express will not be be able to "extend" the Xfinity wireless network wirelessly?
The Express can only extend a network wirelessly from another Apple AirPort router. Another way of saying the same thing is that if you want to "extend" wirelessly, you will need two Apple AirPort routers.
The Express will need to be permanently connected to the modem/router using an Ethernet cable if you want it to extend the Xfinity network.

  • How can I set the default home page for all new users in Firefox 4

I'm trying to deploy FF 4.0rc1 in a corporate environment but I can't find a way to set the default home page or any other settings for that matter.
Is there a way to set the default home page for all new users and lock it so that the users can't change home page?
    Best regards
    Jonas

In Firefox 4 the template folder for new profiles (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\
) doesn't exist. You can create that \defaults\profile\ folder and place a file user.js in it with the prefs that you want to initialize.
    See:
You can also use a mozilla.cfg file to set the default value for prefs.<br />
    See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
defaultPref(); // set new default value
pref(); // set pref, but allow changes
lockPref(); // lock pref, disallow changes

  • New iMac 21.5". How can I set up a new user account with access to all the files of the original user account?

Running Mavericks on a 2013 iMac 21.5". I want to set up a second user account with different settings that meet the requirements of specific software. I need the files to be accessible by both users. I have made both the main and secondary accounts administrators. I have also enabled file sharing for both. Neither account can see the other's files in Finder.
How can I make all files accessible to both accounts? I read that administrator accounts automatically can see all files on the computer, but it is not working out that way. I have restarted the computer, to no avail.

Comcast only offers POP accounts, and one way to set up the account and enter all the settings before it connects to the mail server, might be to do it Offline:

The server settings are given [http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/setting-up-thunderbird/ here], but the method is for Online account setup.
