How can I set up a wireless network between two Mac Mini's (media centres)?

I've just received my second mac mini (core duo, 1.83, 1 Gb ram)and want to set up a wireless network to link this with my original mac mini (PPC 1.42, 512MB) and my Belkin wireless router (g std).
I'm using both as media centres in different rooms and want to keep all my media (films, photo's, music etc.) on one mini (connected to a 640GB external drive) and access it over the wireless network. Sort of a more felxible Apple TV setup??
I've got the wireless network working no problems with both mini's connected to the internet over the network but I'm stuck at how I get the two mini's to see each other. I've tried "the Missing Manual" and these forums but no success so far.
I know it can be done but would really appreciate any suggestions/directions on what to do?
Thanks in advance<<br>

  • How can I set up a wireless network??

I have a Airport Base station at home would like to network my laptop with my desktop. Only thing is I believe the desktop does not have a airport card installed, it is an older mac. The base station is hooked up to it by a cable.
Could someone please tell me what I need to do to network these computers?
    Thanks!

You already have a network setup.
If you enable file sharing on your laptop you should be able to see it from the desktop. Similarly if you enable file sharing on your desktop you should be able to see it from the laptop.
You can find all the gory details in KB 106461, Mac OS X: About File Sharing.

  • How can I set up a bluetooth speaker with a mac mini?

    Hi
I'm using a late 2012 Mac Mini processor, OS X 10.9.4 -- can't find any info on how to set up wireless Bluetooth speaker.
    Would appreciate any help. Thanks

OK, thank you for that information. On your Mac, go to the Apple logo at the very top left. Then go to System Preferences. Then go to the Blue bluetooth logo to open bluetooth settings. In the window that opens, you'll see a + in the bottom left. Just before you click this, press the pair button on your speaker. The Mac will now search for the speaker, which is now discoverable. When you see the speaker, double click it in the list. Once you are connected, go back to system preferences, this time opening up the sound settings. In the list of speakers, select your Bluetooth one. it will now be highlighted and all audio will go through it. To go back to your regular speakers, either turn off the Bluetooth speaker, or go back to the sound settings and highlight 'build in speakers'. *****

  • Can I set up a home network between my mac and a windows based laptop?

Can I set up a homenetwork between my mac and a windows based laptop?

The router is te network hub.
I have a network between my Linux box and my PC  and my MBP because they are both hooked up the the same router.  All you need is the "192.168.1.x" address of the destination box and the software needed for the type of conection (VNC, SSH, etc).
What helps is to set up "static routing" for all boxes so the IP address does not change.  I have set up my Linux box to be 192.168.1.100 always, using the MAC (the ethernet abbreviation MAC, not Macintosh) in the router's "static routing" table.
Exactly which screens you need in the router depends on te router make and the internal management screens.  The router maker should have either online (if they offer it past a 1 year from purchase) or online help found through Google.  A MAC address is a set of 6 hexadecimal number separated by ":" -- an example (which I imagine will match *some* MAC *somewhere* is "6A:13:F2:72:E4:A1".

  • How can i set up a wireless network from my iMac lion, with a windows 7??

I wish to setup a network from my iMac to my gf windows 7 laptop, but can't figure out how...

In order to do this you should have a router. Once you have a router and both computers on the network then you will need to turn on File Sharing on the Mac. You can locate Sharing in System Preferences - Sharing. On the PC it has a similar function but typical of MS Windows much more arcane and complex. First thing you will need to know is what version of MS Windows you have, then you can Google something like "File sharing OS X Lion with Windows 7" and you will find lots of instructions.

  • How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between my iPhone 4 & my wireless Linksys WRT54G router?

How can I set up Wi-Fi connection between this iPhone I bought and my wireless Linksys router (WRT54G) that I'm using for home netwrking for my PCs?
Tried settings on iPhone, selceted Wi-Fi connection, then pressed my network name shown on this iPhone, but nothing happens after that.

Do you not get the icon on the top bar of the iPhone?
Once you press on the network, the iPhone should connect to it. If the Network has a wep or WPA key it should be requested at that time.
Once the above has been completed, then the iPhone is connected. And you can use the wifi conneftion to browse the internet. It should also show a checkmark next to the network signifying it connected.
If its having trouble connecting or taking some time you should see the   next to the network spinning around.

Click on the picture of the AirPort Extreme
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window that appears
Edit/backspace out the Wireless Network Name and type in a new name that you want to use
Click Update at the lower right of the window
Wait a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart

  • How can I set up a new network on my apple tv when my remote app isn't picking it up because they aren't on the same network?

How can I set up a new network on my apple tv when my remote app isn't picking it up because they aren't on the same network? The actual remote doesn't work anymore, so I've been using the remote app on my phone but now that our internet changed, I can't do anything at all. Please help!

You can't use the remote app to setup a network. If your physical remote isn't working you will need borrow another or purchase a replacement.

  • Can you set up a wireless network/router using only the iPad?

Can you set up a wireless network/modem/router using only an iPad - if you don't have a computer?

You actually can as most routers come with a web interface that lets you tinker with all things with regard to set up and connection.
You have to choose though as there are other routers that would require you to plug-it in to a computer first, as they have a desktop application to make way for easier set-up.
But for everything else, it is done through a web client which is just like accessing any web site.

The original Mac Mini does have Bluetooth, see > Mac mini (original) - Technical Specifications
Of course it also depends on what wireless keyboard you mean...?

  • I have set up my wireless network and now have moved. How can I set up a new network with a different ip address

I have set up my wireless network on airport express and worked great. I have now moved and have a new internet provider and need to change my ip address. How do I do this

Is your new ISP providing you with a static Public IP address? ... or are they providing you with a dynamic IP address via DHCP (this would be the most common method for consumer-grade Internet service.) Next, which version of the AirPort Utility are you using? Finally, which version of the AirPort Express do you have?
