How can I set up an iTunes account for my kids - or share mine?

Both my kids got iPod Touches for Christmas. While I can import and sync music to them, they want to be able to download game apps and album art and they need iTunes accounts to do it. But they don't meet the age requirement to have an account. Can I link them to my account somehow? Like with a different username or password or something? They have their own user accounts on our iMac. Thanks for all suggestions!

I have the exact same problem, they can't access because of their ages

An iTunes account is something you log into online to buy music.
An iTunes library is a collection of media and other items (including apps) on your computer.  This is what you see when you open iTunes.
So, do you mean account or library?  You can set up a new iTunes account but all your purchases made in that account will remain in the old account and cannot be moved.  You can set up a new library by starting iTunes and immediately hold down the option key.

The iPad mini is basically a one user device. There are no Accounts. You can set up restrictions so that only you can do certain things.

    Hello kyleaho0048,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you are trying to set up a new Apple ID, please follow the instructions in the following article:

Since this is for your young son, I also recommend taking a look a the the built-in parental controls in iTunes:

  • My wife and I have been using the same iTunes account, but would like to have separate apps on our phones.  How can I set up a separate account for her?

My wife and I have been using the same iTunes account for both our iPhones, but she wants separate apps from mine.  How can I set up a second account in her name, delete the apps on her phone and start from scratch with just the apps she wants on her phone?

If you have the old phone, connect it to iTunes, right click on the device, and choose transfer purchases.  If you no longer have the old phone, I don't believe there is a way to recover them, as they were on your original device.

  • HT204266 Can I set up different iTunes accounts for family members?

I currently have an iPhone 4 and will be upgrading to an iPhone 5. My wife and daughters also will be getting iPhones and I was wondering how to set up seperate iTunes accounts for them and also how to prevent them form syncing their phones with the address book on our Mac. Thanks.

Separate user accounts on your Mac would be the best idea IMO.

  • Can i set up an itunes account for my friend living in another country?

I would like to set up an itunes account for my friend living aboard and I'm happy to use my own credit card details to buy the music and use my own email address. Is this possible? It's for a birthday present so I wanted to just send her the login details to the account and hey-presto she has lots of cool new music. I've looked up itunes cloud / match etc but have no idea if this is possible to do. Please help and thanks in advance

FYI, you've posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question really isn't related to.
But, the answer to your question is no. To set up an account in a regional iTunes Store the person must have a credit card drawn on a local bank and an address in the local country to create the account. The Terms of Service of the stores also prevent someone from living in one country and using another store.

  • How do I set up an itunes account for my minor child?

We're getting an ipod touch for our son for his 8th birthday. How do I set up his own Itunes account so he can store his apps on his own account? (I'm getting a little overloaded with apps on my iphone.) Can I set it up under my itunes account or does he need a separate one?
Also, is there anyway to sync the Apps I already have on my itunes account onto his new ipod touch?
    Thanks,
    darcyfromdayton

I did this earlier this morning on my MacBook in iTunes.
    Straight forward:
    1. Creat an account with your child's birthday which is at least 13 years old.
    2. Set the account up using your credit card.
    3. Sign out and then back into your kids account.
    4. Edit the payment by selecting NONE which will delete your credit card info.
    5. Sign your kids account out of iTunes store.
    6. Log into your iTunes store account and send your kid a iTunes Gift or set them up with an allowance.
    7. Your kid can now make purchases on their iPhone, iPod, iPad  without affecting your credit card or bank account.
    Have fun!

  • Can I create a new itunes account for my kids and still keep old music on both?

My kids currently have ipod nanos.  They are getting ipod touches for christmas.  Originally we setup a "family" itunes account on my computer.  We now want to set them up their own account on their own laptop.  Can we transfer old music from nano to touch to the new itunes account?

You can usehHome Sharing so the music will be accessable on their computers,  Their computer will have to be authorized for the iTunes account.  For more informations see:

  • How do I set up an iTunes account for my underage child?

I bought my 10-yr-old an iPad 2.  I want to keep my iTunes separate from his.  If iTunes requires an AppleId, and you can't create an AppleId for a child, then how would I go about setting him up with his own iTunes?  I intend to "fund it" by giving him gift cards to use . . . no credit card transactions.
    Thanks.

  • HT1660 How can I maintain two separate itunes accounts on one single device without erasing either set of data?

How can I maintain two separate itunes accounts on one single device (iPhone 4) without erasing either set of data when syncing with itunes?

    Hi,
Depends on what you trying to setup but for purchases, you can roll down at the very end of the iTunes/AppStore pages to logout of your current account and then login into a different one.  Then your purchase will be billded to this new account.  Everything will sync as you used to but in order to use the purchased content in iTunes or other devices, you will need to authorize them (you can have up to 5 devices authorized for an account).
