How can I set up iTunes in a networked environment?

I have the following set-up at home:
- 1 desktop PC
- 1 laptop PC
- 1 Macbook Pro
- 1 file server (linux).
What I would like to do:
- Store my (large) master iTunes library on my file server
- Connect each of my three computers to it while I am at home.
- Copy a small sub-section of the master library to my laptop(s) for mobile listening.
- Be able to buy music/video/movies on the laptop and when I return home copy to my mater library.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
Stefan
PS: I have checked the forum, but I have only found subsolutions, which don't work with the complete concept.

There isn't really a complete, easy manner to do this. For instance, with your laptop set to use its own hard drive for the library anything you download there will have to be manually copied to the server when you get home. If the laptop is set to use server for library then iTUnes will be able to download new files when away but any other files will not be available.
This is on top of the complication of multiple computers accessing same file store for iTunes. Except with deleted files the individual machines do not know about changes (added files) done by the other ones.

  • How can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express

how can I set up a wi-fi network, using one time capsule and two airport express ?
The time capsule is near the Mac. ok
The first Airport is on the corridor, ok, works well and the App on the iPad signals so, ok
But when I plug the next Airport on another room nearby nothing happens, and signals disconected ....
is the signal so weak that is not able to go to ono room to the other ?

Well, even if you have the first express set up to extend the network, the second express can only extend from the TimeCapsule.
Maybe you got walls of sheetrook in the way, or kitchen/bathroom tiles, etc, dampening the signal rapidly.

  • How can I set up itunes with one ipod and two laptops?

My boyfriend gave me an ipod a few months ago and he let me set up itunes on his laptop so everything is there. now that i have my own laptop i want everything thats on his laptop on mine. The itunes part i mean. but i don't know how can anyone help me?

    Do as this article says:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
That will make your iPod the syncing computer.
You can only have one syncing computer/iTunes library for apps. and photos. You can however, manually sync music and vides from multiple computer/library if you sync manually. See that topic of:

  • HT4623 How can I set up iTunes on a new computer without losing my phone data?

I have an iPhone I've used for years, but my computer died and I have to stat over on a new PC with a fresh iTunes... how can I make sure the new installation does not wipe out my phone?

Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
If you have copied everything from the old computer to the new one, then sync al of the info to the iphone.

  • How can I set up itunes to maunally sync, we have had to buy a new pc, which wants to erase and save when we connect the nano, how can I keep old files on Nano?

Can anyone tell me how I can stop itunes syncing and erasing the data on the nano now we are on a new pc?

I think you only have two choices when you hook up an iPod to a computer. One is to sync to it, which will replace all of the content if it's a different computer from the one where the iPod content came from in the first place (your situation). The other is to not sync, which I think is for people who may want to use their iPods as storage disks, the way you might use a USB thumb drive these days. In that case, you wouldn't replace your content with what is in the iTunes of the new computer, but you also won't be able to put additional content on.
There is one new wrinkle with later versions of iTunes. You can transfer iTunes Store purchases from an iPod to a new computer, but it won't do the same for non iTunes Store purchases, like the CDs you burned. Those will have to be transferred to the new computer and synced back to the iPod. Since you have to do that anyway, you might as well just transfer all of your iTunes content from the old computer to the new one, and then take the time to sync all the content back onto the iPod. If you do it at night, you won't be troubled by the delay.
If you have content on the iPod that you no longer have (maybe your old computer crashed before you could back it up), there are some programs that claim to be able to transfer all content from iPod to computer. I've only seen them mentioned here on the forum, so searching here or on Google might be a start.

  • How can I set up iTunes match which iTunes match .?

I Need to subscribed iTunes match with itunes cards ?

You can only upload your music to iTunes Match from a computer's iTunes, so ideally you'd do it from the computer's iTunes that has your music library on it.
What country are you currently in, and what country do you have on your iTunes account ? If you trying to subscribe to it in the US store and you are not in the US then you can't - you can only use your own country's store (and, if it's available there, iTunes Match in your country).
To get your balance removed from your account so that you can change countries you can try contacting iTunes Support  : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • HT201303 How can I set up iTunes billing so that I get billed ONCE per download session rather than for EACH download I purchase?

It's annoying getting seven, eight, ten, twenty direct billings from my bank account when I'd prefer a single one per session. Maybe this isn't possible to do, but it never hurts to ask!

  • How can I set up a home wireless network with Comcast high speed internet?

I just signed up for Comcast High Speed Internet. I was able to get my Power Mac onto the internet. However, I connected my Airport Extreme and am unable to get it to recognize that I have an internet connection. I want to set up a wireless network in my apartment. Comcast tech support said that I only have one IP address.
Any suggestions as to how I can get my wireless network up and going? Thanks!

Should I change set up so that cable goes from the cable modem directly to Airport Extreme and then use the ports on the Extreme to run Ethernet Cable to Power Mac and other devices?
    Yes
As an aside, would this setup allow me to hook my iBook up to Airport via Ethernet cable and let it get into Internet that way?
    Yes

    Hi all,

    Hi Romanna,
thanks for ur reply,I have used this appproach for the first time when I was trying to develop everything in a new schema.Suppose each time while a new package is ready to test I have to pass it on to the testing team in their environment so
Is it feasible to do the whole step again..
    * May be I am not getting u correctly
